Earn 1 lb of Starbucks Coffee Beans

Alright, this isn’t quite a true freebie, because you need to buy something – and buy something each week for eight weeks – but, for some (like me) who drink a store-brewed coffee with some frequency, listen up.

Here’s the scoop:

— Go to Starbucks and ask for a Bold Passport. Passports are available through March 14.

— Each week for the next eight weeks, buy the bold coffee of the week for $1.50.

— Get a Bold Passport sticker with purchase each week and put them into your Bold Passport.

— Bring your completed passport into Starbucks by 5/31/10 and exchange it for a pound of free coffee beans.

Personally, I think this is an interesting marketing tactic. Not only are they able to have willing customers try a bunch of new coffee, they are also getting people into an 8-week coffee habit with the reward of coffee you can brew at home.

Your turn: Are you going to do this or not?

Hmmm…I’m going to consider doing this. Starbucks is my favorite brand of coffee.

I would not do this. I buy great fresh roasted ground coffee at my favorite coffee house, J&S Coffee in St. Paul. That allows me to support a small business and brew 3 cups of perfect coffee at home for less than 40 cents a day. A pound lasts me almost a month.

Sweet! We go through a pound of beans a week at our house. I would love an excuse to pick up a Starbucks while shopping with my children and trying to maintain my sanity. Thanks for the info.

It is a great idea but I have a feeling I’d forget one week. Even so, $1.50 a cup isn’t a bad deal.

I almost never buy coffee…. I can have fresh pressed organic at home for so much less $$. And it tastes better. BUT this one is tempting for those 6:00 a.m. Wednesday mornings when I’m at Rainbow when it opens. There happens to be a Starbuck’s in the same plaza….. that’s when I’m likely to break down and buy a cup!

Great Deal, do you this is available at Target branches? I sure hope so :)

      jennifer,

I’m am betting not. Target Starbucks haven’t participated in other projects in the past, from my experience. I will try to remember to ask this weekend, when I plan to make a Target run. I see that I must pick up a passport by Sunday 3/14.

I AM DOING IT. I WAS THERE TONIGHT AND GOT MY PASSPORT. I THINK ITS A CLEVER MARKETING IDEA. STARBUCKS GIVES FREE REFILLS BUT ONLY IF YOUR CARD IS REGISTERED. NO ON TARGET OR THE STARBUCKS AT BARNES AND NOBLE.

I am thinking I am going to do it. Do you think we can use the empty 12oz Starbuck’s coffee bags with the coupon for the free tall for this promo?

Former Starbucks partner here: When you go into a store to buy your bold coffee, the register partner should offer you a sticker for your coffee journey regardless of how you pay for it. So you should be able to use your discount codes on the side of the 12 oz. bags and still get a sticker, no worries.

Target and B&N stores are licensed, not company-owned, so they have a completely different set of promotions from stand-alone stores, and probably won’t be honoring these coffee journeys — so your stickers will all be accumulated from company-owned stores, and your free pound of coffee will also only be available at company-owned stores.

Also, stores run out of the weekly bold coffee choice with some frequency (Starbucks has a long history of under-estimating how popular these promotions will be.) If your local store isn’t brewing the “correct” bold coffee one week, you can still get a sticker for that week in your coffee journey. So don’t worry if the offering board doesn’t match what your passport says should be brewing.

    Hope this helps!
