Carrie’s Picks from Sunday Inserts 3/7/10

Your paper should have three inserts – a Red Plum, a Smart Source, and a Procter & Gamble.

The Parade Magazine, another insert in the paper, has a couple $1/1 coupons in it too, so be sure to pull that out as well.

My picks are rare coupons or those that I think are likely to turn into freebies. I receive a home delivered copy of the Minneapolis Star Tribune and it’s possible that the coupons in your Sunday paper look different than mine. Understand why by reading 4 reasons your paper may have different coupons than your neighbor’s.

For more own type-A-ness, the coupons are organized alphabetically within category.

If you’re new to couponing, read through my picks from previous weeks to learn from my oh-so delightful commentary in weeks gone by.

If you want more copies of these coupons ask friends, neighbors, co-workers, or even restaurants, coffee shops or libraries for their unused copies. You can also order the specific coupons you want from The Coupon Clippers.

Your turn: Which coupons do you think will turn into a freebie or rock bottom-priced item?

Everyday, Regular Priced Items

Buy the following products with a coupon from this weekend’s paper at their everyday price and you’ll get a great deal or maybe even a freebie.

Biore Cleanser. Get a free Biore cleanser when you buy Biore pore strips. (Smart Source)

Frank’s Red Hot Original Sauce. Get a free bottle with the try me free coupon. Max value is $1.39. Who sells this brand? (Smart Source)

Fusion Razor. Free cartridge pack when you buy the razor. Like I’ve said before, they want to get the razor in your hands so that you continue to buy refills over time. (Procter & Gamble)

Gillette. Buy Gillette deodorant, get Gillette body wash free. Another way to spend $50 so you can get your $100 coupon booklet. (Procter & Gamble)

Ice Mountain Water. Buy 2 gallons of water, get 1 free. Bottled water coupons are rare. (Red Plum)

Johnson’s Baby Product. Johnson’s Buddies bar soap qualifies as a baby product and is sold for less than $1 everywhere it’s sold. It’s a single bar of soap in an orange-ish box in the baby aisle. Pick one up free with this $1/1 coupon (Red Plum)

Marcal Paper Products. Get a free package of napkins, paper towel, bath tissue or facial tissue with this try me free coupon. I’ve only ever seen the napkins at my local store. Have you found other qualifying products somewhere? (Smart Source)

Old Spice. There are a ton of coupons for free items when you buy select Old Spice products. If you are looking for ways to spend $50 so you can get your $100 coupon booklet, then these coupons sure could help. (Procter & Gamble)

Pediasure. An individual bottle of Pediasure can’t sell for much more than $2, can it? Use this $2 off any Pediasure product to pick one up cheap. (Smart Source)

Reach Dental Floss. 55 yard packages of Reach sell for less than $1 at Target and Walmart, making them free with this coupon. (Red Plum)

Swiffer SweeperVac Starter Kit. Save $10 off a starter kit. (Procter & Gamble)

Tide. This $1/1 clearly states “good on any size Tide” which means there should be no issue using it to get a travel-sized Tide free at Target and Walmart. (Procter & Gamble)

World’s Best Cat Litter. Use this week’s $3/1 coupon to lower your out of pocket expense, then submit for this World’s Best Cat Litter mail-in rebate that will give you up to $12.99 back. (Smart Source)

Sale Priced Items

If these products go on sale before the coupon expires you should get a rock bottom price or maybe even a freebie. Look through the coupons on the “coupons doubled in value” list below as well, since they could be included here too.

Air Wick i-Motion Starter Kit. Companies love to give their starter kits away free, because then you’ll buy the refills – which are rarely ever free. That to say, I suspect you will be able to get this i-Motion Starter Kit for pennies at some point. Before you jump at it, decide if you are willing to maintain it by buying the refills. (Smart Source)

Almay. It’s unusual to see $1 off coupons for any Almay product. If you love this brand, then try to get your hands on a few of these coupons. (Smart Source)

Barilla Whole Grain Pasta. We love whole grain pasta and it’s been awhile since we’ve seen a coupon for it. $0.55/1 isn’t the highest value, but it’s better than nothing (Smart Source)

Colgate Total Toothpaste. CVS and Walgreens routinely run specials where Colgate Total is free when you use a $1/1 like this one alongside their promotion. (Smart Source)

Febreze Flameless Luminary Starter Kit. Like I mentioned with the AirWick starter kit, you should be able to get an eye-popping deal on this starter kit when you use a $4/1 coupon. They are willing to give it away so that you buy refills. (Procter & Gamble)

GE Energy Smart, Reveal or Edison Halogen Bulbs. The $1/1 coupons we’ve gotten recently have turned into free bulbs at various stores with various sales. (Smart Source)

John Freida Products. Walgreens has been running some great sales on John Freida products and hopefully we’ll see them again so these $3/1 and $2/1 coupons turn into nearly-free hair care products. (Smart Source)

Kiwi Show Polish. Maybe twice per year we see $1/1 Kiwi coupons. It’s the time when I stock up on shoe polish and those little buffer deal-bobs with built-in polish. (Red Plum)

Mars Candy. Sales on Easter candy start this week and coupons like this $1/3 will help us pay no more than $1 per bag for our treats. (Red Plum)

Mars Candy Bars . Buy 2 qualifying candy bars, get one free. I think it’s self-explanatory why this is a good coupon (Red Plum)

Morton Water Softener Salt. Save $1 on 2 bags of salt. Wait for a good sale and walk away with a great deal. (Red Plum)

Nestle Crunch Bars. Buy one, get one free. This is my husband’s favorite candy bar and he’ll appreciate two of them in his Easter basket (Smart Source)

Reach Toothbrush. We often see deals at Walgreens and CVS where Reach toothbrushes are free when you have a $1/1 coupon like the one we got this week. (Red Plum)

Revlon Beauty Tools. It’s been awhile, but we used to see tweezers, emery boards and basic nail clippers go on sale for $1 at the drugstores, making them free after this $1/1 coupon. Let’s hope a sale like that returns. (Smart Source)

Scotch Pads. $0.75/2 Scotch scour pads, sponges, dishwand or dishwand refills is a rare coupon. What is the everyday price of the basic scour pads (no sponge) at Target?)

Starburst Jelly Beans. Ditto the sentiments on Easter candy, but even better. This coupon doesn’t expire until June 6. That means you could hold on to until after Easter and pick up some candy when it goes on clearance for a super stellar deal. (Red Plum)

Coupons Doubled in Value

If you can shop at a store where the value of your coupon is doubled and these products go on sale before the coupon expires, then you will likely get a freebie or something close to it.

Country Crock. At my local store Country Crock goes on sale buy one, get one free with some frequency. You could use two of these $0.50/1 coupons along with that sale to get two containers for pennies. (Red Plum)

Dial Hand Soap. Individual pumps of soap routinely sell for $1. With this $0.35/1 coupon doubled in value you’d pay just $0.30, which is a good price.

El Monterey Taquitos. In time these will go on sale for $2 and become free when this $1/1 coupon is doubled in value (Red Plum)

Gillette Fusion Shave Product. I have seen this sell for $2 and picked some up free with $1/1 coupons like we got today. (Procter & Gamble)

Jimmy Dean. There are a couple $1/1 Jimmy Dean coupons. As Easter approaches and folks are thinking Easter brunch, we will see coupons and sales on brunch-type foods. Hopefully we can pick some up free. (Red Plum)

Ken’s Dressing. If Ken’s dressing goes on sale for $2, as it often does, then we’ll get it free when this $1/1 is doubled. (Smart Source)

Marcal Napkins. Wait for another napkin sale where they’ll be $2 and you can get a package free with this $1/1 coupon. (Smart Source)

Oscar Mayer Cold Cuts. Cotto Salami and Bologna often go on sale for $1 each, which would make two packages free if this $1/2 is doubled in value. (Smart Source)

SeaPak. Fish coupons continue through Lent and $1/1 is the best we’ve seen so far. (Red Plum)

Eat Out and Recreations

Boston Market. Variety of coupons that expire on 4/4. (Smart Source)

Buca. Yet another $10 off $20 purchase coupon. Expires 4/15. (Red Plum)

Carrie – to answer one of your questions: Frank’s hot sauce is available at Cub and Rainbow for sure. I’ve bought it at both places.
    Thanks for all you do!

The Frank’s coupon is for 5 oz and al I can find at Cub was 12 oz @$1.99- so net would be 60 cents still a good deal but not FREE

    2. Jonna

Rainbow has a variety of sizes and sometimes the bigger size goes on sale to below 1.39 and the coupon also specifies that it will take 1.39 off any size bigger than that, as well. It is also available at Target.

You might have already mentioned this but I always buy a few sunday preview papers at walgreen on saturday for $.50 which also has alot of the same coupons as the sunday edition paper.

I saw another coupon on Target’s site for the Frank’s Red Hot Original Sauce.

Hy-Vee also carries Marcal Paper Products. I think it was last week that the 4 roll toilet paper went on sale for $1.99 and I had $2 coupon for Marcal.

Here is a question regarding the Old Spice coupons in this week’s paper:

There are 2 very similar coupons for the same products. One is for a free deoderant when you purchase a body wash, the other is for a free body wash when you purchase a deoderant. Is it possible to purchase one body wash and one deoderant and get them both free by using the two coupons? They specifically state one coupone per perchase. If both items are purchased, two coupons could be used, right?

What a great insert week! I wasn’t at my computer all day Saturday, but stopped in to buy 3 Saturday editions with the hopes the coupons would be worth it. Woohoo! Jackpot! I bought the John Frieda hair products last time Wags had them on RR sale and LOVE them so I will definitely be stocking up on those this week. The Marcals are great too since I have a Rainbow rain check from last week when they were on sale. Also, the World’s Best Cat Litter is a great freebie!

I thought the coupon inthe P&G insert for save $5 on two Miss Clairol products was a great one! I used one immediately at Walmart and got 2 boxes for around $7.
