Walgreens Shopping List 2/14 – 2/20/10

I’m easy to please as the free Trident gum is a highlight for me at Walgreens this week. The Revlon hair color is an amazing rock bottom price too. Be sure to check the candy aisle for Valentine’s Day clearance deals.

**Note: Walgreens is the one store where an advertised sale like “2 for $4” usually requires you to buy two products. The first one rings at full price and the second product will ring at a lesser price to bring the total to $4, using our example. If you ever question whether you need to buy two to receive a sale price, ask the cashier to scan one item for you. If it rings at full price, then you know you need to buy two products. If it rings at the sale price, then you don’t.

Your turn: What are you buying this week at Walgreens?

YOU ROCK!!! This is fast and amazing. I don;t know how you do it but am glad you do. THNAKS SO MUCH!!!!!! Happy Valentines Day!
    Dawn

  2. Renee

I tried the Trident coupon today and they wouldn’t accept it with the Walgreens coupon.

    1. Sue

I tried it, too. Wrong kind/size.

      1. Angela

me three! The Trident layer pack is 14 pieces and the walgreens coupons says it’s for the 18 piece packet.

  3. Miranda

Same here with the Trident . . . wrong size. Also, I bought 3 Downy liquid but did not get the register rewards. Was it because my total was less than $10 after I used the coupons on the Downy? Manager at Walgreens said some companies do not give out the register rewards if you use a coupon on their product.

    1. Erin Rose

I didnt get mine either. I got 2 Tide Stain Release and 1 Downy. So, she tried again without coupons. Didnt work. Then she tried a different register. Didnt work. So then she grabbed 3 completely different products and it didnt work either. Then, she gave up and they gave me $2 in cash.

So, it had nothing to do with coupons or the RR used, since when she rerang it didnt work. I looked on A Full Cup to see if anyone else mentioned it, but didnt see anyone post it yet.

  4. pj

The joint juice coupon is for the online store only.

  5. Angela

I used the $2/2 coupon in 1/31S insert and bought 2 bags of Reese Mini peanut butter cups and 2 bags of twizzler. Spent $9 and got $5 in RR. I’ll freeze the peanut butter cups to use in a couple months to make those graduation hats favors for my son’s graduation party. (average $1 per bag of candy)

  6. Monica

I am new to coupons and Register Rewards at Walgreens and am trying to figure it all out. What do you use as filler items at Walgreens? I needed something small to add to my order today to have the same number of items as coupons. I ended up adding a Reese’s Valentine’s candy as those are my downfall. But, something cheaper in the future would be nice to know about. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help1

    1. Susie

Some times I use the little carmels at the check out for $.33 each.

      1. Angela

I use the little carmels too for my fillers! I grabbed a few valentine gift bags that were .25 and used as fillers last week.

    2. Laura Wales

Monica, I often look through the Walgreens ad and clip in-ad coupons that are less than $.50 on items I could use (candy, pop, mailing envelopes, etc.). Since Walgreens coupons don’t count toward your # of coupons vs. # of items, you can sometimes find good filler items this way.

      1. Sarah Beth

Is it true that Walgreens coupons do not count towards your # of coupons??? Could this vary by store? This could totally change my Wags shopping experience!!! I swear I’ve tried to use RRs before and the register stopped me because I had already used too many coupons – so I assumed that Wags coupons were counting towards my # of coupons. Guess it won’t hurt to try again sometime.

        1. Laura Wales

As far as I know, they do not count towards your coupon count. Register Rewards, of course, do.

    3. Sarah Beth

Often around holidays like Valentines, Easter, etc they will have pencils for sale or gift bags (the lunch bag style) for 5/$1 or 8/$1 with Walgreens in-ad coupon. These are usually what I get for fillers – just look through your ad and be sure you clip the in-ad coupon.

      1. Steph

It is also good to note that when using an in-ad coupon, such as 5/$1, you do not need to purchse all 5 for the deal. If you purchase only one bag and have this coupon, it would be just $0.20.

    4. Deb Jacobsen

I use the carmel fillers for .33 cents as well….I’m not a carmel lover but these carmels are AWESOME!

  7. Nichole

Wondering if smooth away BOGO works with 2 coupons. Has anybody tried? Thanks again for this site.

  8. Monica

I forgot to mention that the Lakeville (off 35 and 50) were out of the Venus Embrace refillable system razors.

  9. Jennifer

I didn’t get the Smartsource insert in my Pioneer Press today (nor a P&G insert, if there was one). Did everyone else?

  11. Pj

Last week they counted a walgreens coupon as one item so I had to scramble to get another item. Does this vary by store?

  12. Rhonda

I use Ramen noodles for .39 each for fillers as I can always feed them to the boys later. I did find some 3 for $1.00 chocolate bars too when I needed several fillers.

  13. Monica

The Walgreens I go to in Lakeville had a sheet of coupons by the register (I think they were the ones in the Feb book, but I am not sure as I am still new to all of this). There was one for $2 off a Burt’s Bee product, limit 2. I used it on 2 chapsticks that were $2.99 each. A good deal in my opinion.

    1. Kristi

My walgreens wouldn’t work w/ that. :( I tried 3 different kinds none worked n manager thought it was they were wrong items. It shows a lip shimmer and says burts bees body products so imo all should work if not specified! I wonder if it is still going on I think I will go to a diff walgreens today and try!

  14. Deb Jacobsen

FYI-Lysol Toilet Cleaner was $2.99. With B1G1 and (2) .50 cent coupons, the Toilet Bowl Cleaner was $1.00/each. (The Lysol Wipes were $3.89. So, with $1.00/2-that make them $1.45 each. Still not a bad deal as we like to have them around for convenience times.) Thanks Carrie!

  15. Wendy

I spoke to the manager today at the Walgreens in Andover. She said in order to get your register rewards, you must STILL have the required dollar amount AFTER all coupons are taken off. I purchased (2) DayQuil and (2) NyQuil. Used a coupon for FREE Puffs and also a coupon for $1.50/2. She said because of the $1.50 coupon, I hadn’t spent the required $20 to get my $10 in rewards. (*A $5 reward ticket had printed instead.) Same thing happened with the Lysol products…after coupons I hadn’t spent $10, so I didn’t get my $2 reg rewards.

    1. Laura Wales

Wendy, that’s odd. That’s never been my experience before with Register Rewards.

      1. Penny

The truth I’ve learned is that management at Walgreens is haphazard. If what this manager said was true, then we would all have noticed it at the register…months ago. I had a manager argue with me about using a $7 Q on three bayer aspirin bottles I purchased using wags raincheck also…he said he would only credit me part of the $7…I responded by asking if he was going to submit the Q for reimbursement at this lesser amount – he stopped arguing at that point.

I get tons of bargains at wags, but wish they would better train their managers. The manager sets the tone of the store.

  16. Tim

I don’t know if anyone else has seen this on other websites or not, but there’s a great way to get Crest toothpaste for 4 cents!!! At Walgreens, certain Crest toothpastes are on sale for $2.29. Use the IVC from the February coupon book that is $1.50 off Crest toothpaste (regular, tartar control, baking soda and peroxide toothpastes only). Stack that with the 75 cents off any 4 oz. or largerCrest toothpaste, and you’ve got toothpaste for less than a nickel! :)

    1. Laura Wales

      Thanks for the tip, Tim!

      1. Tim

you’re welcome! I haven’t tried it yet, but I saw it on a site and hope to have success with it this week!

  17. Tim

the 75 cents off is in the 2/7 P&G insert. Sorry I left that out! :)

  18. kathy

I usually use the holiday candy as my filler. I have 3 kids and each week I got the truffle hearts, sweetarts or pencils as my fillers and by valetines my kids valetines buys were full. other good filler are the “Ravinia knee highs” I think they are like $0.50. The cleaning gloves are really cheap and always good to have around the house. Today I used the 50% off valetine candy as a filler and stocked my freezer.

Also to note I have always gotten my RR even with coupons and never had a problem.
One thing I did learn this week is that RR is good in photo. I had to pick up my son’s science fair project photos and just simply asked the cashier, she did not know but scanned the rewards and it went through.

  19. Sara

The Crest toothpaste in North Mankato was $2.79 not the $2.29 mentioned making it 54 cents. But They had the Air Wick i Motion on sale for $3.99 with the $4 coupon was FREE!

  20. Erin Rose

Other than my one experience this week with the Downy deal, I also have always gotten my RR even with the use of coupons.

It is so frustrating with the managers make up their own rules. Each visit to each WG that I visit is different. Sometimes they are super friendly (like this week) and others they treat me like I am ripping off the store because I shop their own sales. I keep going back because their sales are way better than any big box store (TG or WM).

I have to say tho, the WG in Shoreview/Oak Park Heights was amazingly nice this week. I am definitely going back. They treated me with respect and investigated the situation before assuming anything. Usually they just claim it was the coupons. But this time they investigated first and found out it was the computer.

  21. Penny

I love the Shoreview wags also!

  22. Bet

I make my own glass cleaner, daily shower spray, and laundry detergent. So much cheaper than purchasing!

    Recipes on my blog.

North Oaks Walgreens is great. They clip coupons and put them near the items, so if you’ve forgotten one or you see a great deal, you can help yourself.

  23. Shannon

I tried to purchase the Revlon colorsilk but they refused to take the Manufacturer coupon from Targets website. I explained that it was a manufacturers coupon but she said she would get in trouble if she took it. Anyone else have this issue?

    1. Karry

Hi, yes I had trouble using the revlon colorsilk coupon as well (Target/Manufacture coupon).
Clerk stated they don’t take competitors coupons. I explained it was a manufacture coupon. She also stated to me not to believe everything you see or read on the internet (((Beep…).
I just want to get this right so it doesn’t happen again at that store. So what is the policy for sure? Anyone know?
      Thanks,
      Karry

  24. Pj

Just got back from M.G.wags and I did the nyquil deal again and this time they were 5.00 each so I only had to buy four and get the two puffs with the coupons listed and it easily printed out the RR. Don’t know why they were 4.49 last week. Oh well–

  25. Tim

very frustrating….didn’t find any 2.29 Crest at Wags. So I’ll save the coupons for another sale…at least until the end of the month!

  26. brenda

Carrie, Any Axe coupons out there to add to the movie ticket deal?

  27. Mare

Thanks for putting together all the deals. I’ve never shopped so smart in all my life. But yesterday when I tied to use the $4q on the 50% off Air Wick sale price of 3.99, it didn’t work. I tried to talk the clerk into reducing the q to 3.99 but she wouldn’t do it. What do others do in a case like this?

  28. erica e

I have ran into that issue a few times. I usually just ask to speak to a manager. Only because they have experienced this situation more. They can manually over ride the price. It happen to me at Cub when I used the Airwick cpn on a clearanced I motion. She refused the coupon and I explained to her the process to mark it down and she refused so I asked her to ask some one and she did. They explained that they would get reimbursed regardless so she over rode it and I got my I motions:)

FYI- I try to shop at the same Wags and CVS just to keep down confusion.

  29. Judi

Does anyone know which Cub Foods stores accept Wags Register Rewards?
