Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 2/7–2/13/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

As always, Roundy’s stores will double the face value of up to 5 coupons on Wednesday when you meet all the other criteria I mention here and Rainbow Stores will also double coupons according the same rules on Saturday with this caveat:

Coupons that say “Do Not Double.” It has always been Roundy’s official policy that they do not double coupons that say “do not double.” On numerous occasions I had asked the cashiers and management at the store where I shop about that and was told that if the register doubles the coupon, then it could be doubled. In the last week Roundy’s corporate has asked the stores to stop accepting coupons that say “do not double.” I understand that last week some cashiers took “do not double” coupons and others did not. Personally, I will be forthright and ask this week about them, but will not plan on them doubling.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I cannot tell which printable coupons say “do not double” and which do not apart from printing them and I cannot always print every coupon (sometimes I have already printed it, etc.). That means 1) I will try, by process of observation, to note which coupons allow for doubling and which don’t (but I won’t ever learn them all), 2) I typed the list as if every coupon can be doubled (since I cannot tell from the databases I use which allow for doubling and which don’t), but 3) you will have to review the coupons cross-referenced on this list to confirm whether they can be doubled or not.

Buy $20 in select General Mills Products, Get $5 Gas Card Back Via Mail-in Rebate

Mail-in rebate form will print at the bottom of your receipt. In my opinion, many of these sale prices are $0.50 higher than what we routinely see. That to say, I’m not super excited for this deal because it is more work than a regular sale and works out to be about the same bottom line price. That said, I have included coupon matches for the sale items that are priced within a realm of reason, just in case you need something. General Mills coupons generally say “do not double.”

Hormel Pork tenderloins—on sale buy one, get one free (2/$5.99)
Buy 2 and use two $1/1 coupons from 2/7 Smartsource insert or printable coupon
Final price: $1.00 each after doubled coupon, Yes it is 5.99 a pound. I tried to use 2 -1.00 coupons at the Lakeville Rainbow. I was told also that one was free so you could only use 1 coupon. That is so wrong. I shop there all the time. They know me well. Most companys would just give you the dollar to keep you happy and coming back but not this Lakeville Rainbow. They dont care if you leave unhappy or not. There is no reason why they cannot take it. They would not even scan it. Probley because it would take it off. Why do they give people with coupons such a hard time. They get people in the store because of double coupons but I think that if someone is getting to good of a deal then they wont let you do it. I wish cub foods would do double coupons. If they ever do Cub Foods would be my choice. They are much nicer there.

    • Kristi says:

Did you actually get 2 for $5.99? all of the ones at my store were over $10/ea

    • Kierstien says:

just curious what cashier did you have at lakeville? I did not try this deal but I love Rainbow in lakeville if i go to a certain cashier! Sorry you didnt get the cpn taken…hmm wonder what their cpn policy says about this. Carrie or Laura?!?!?

    • Carrie H says:

I also went to the Lakeville Rainbow yesterday and was told I could not use two of the Hormel coupons because one was already free. I went and spoke to the manager who told me the cashier was correct and showed me the policy stating that you can not use a coupon on an item you are receiving for free. She said they are cracking down on policies because “too many people are getting stuff for free or money back”.

  2. Roberta says:

The University Ave Rainbow in St Paul has a Food and Family pamphlet with $4 worth of Kraft coupons. Kraft Shredded cheese, Miracle whip, salad dressing, BBQ sauce, Pizza, Jello, Kool Aid and Triscuits or Nilla wafers or Oreos. They range from .55 to .75 off. But they all say, DO NOT DOUBLE. It is in the lobby/entry way, to the right of the sliding doors that lead to into the produce section of the store. If they double, they Kraft cheese might help others who missed out by not print those Kraft cheese coupons on line before they disappeared – like me. : (

  3. Bethany C says:

My PG deal also made me have $25 of products AFTER my coupons came off the total. Bummer but good thing I had lots of great coupons to use. It seems like more deals are doing things like this… the Unilever deal last week also didn’t print the catalina because I used coupons, BUT at least the customer service desk gave me a $5 coupon off my next order because it was unclear in the ad.

  4. Roberta says:

Sorry, that last sentence in my post is why I am not an English major. The coupons disappeared, not me : } Hope my post is a helpful one, if not a grammatically correct one.

  5. Erin says:

Yoplait Smoothie coupon says do not double.

  6. Sandy says:

The BOGO on pork tenderloins didn’t work according to plan. I printed off two coupons using the above link, but the cashier at the Eagan store said they had the same bar code on each coupon, and she wouldn’t accept them. Oh well, I’ll just use the one from the paper and the one she wouldn’t accept and use it on Saturday!

    • Kimm says:

I think the cashiers are misinformed. My understanding is that the bar codes are the same, but the PIN (typically upper right corner) is different on each printed coupon.

      • Julie W says:

Yes I just had a cashier mix it up last week and verified with the manager that it’s the 16 digit small bar code in the upper corner that needs to be different, the big bar code numbers are the same if you’re printing multiple copies of one coupon (legally of course).

I would check with the CSM, I think it’s new that they’re checking close and the cashier probably just mixed it up.

        Julie

    • Sara says:

The Eagan Rainbow wouldn’t accept my free Oreo coupon that was mailed to me after becoming a fan on Facebook a couple of weeks ago. They said that they won’t accept internet coupons that make an item free. They seem to really be cracking down on internet coupons all around.

      • pennyscents says:

It’s not an internet coupon, though? There was a customer that checked out in front of me today, and they would not let her use a bogo free internet printable. I thought this was strange, as I have never had an issue at this P&S before. I had to go up to the desk to ask for a rain check, so I asked them about that right away too. The manager pointed to the sign on the wall that said that they do not accept free internet coupons. I thought that was just for FREE items, and not bogos. She said that they are getting e-mails daily from corporate really cracking down on the Free internet coupons. I have had such good experiences at this store that I definitely do believe her.

  7. cashbaq kid says:

Failure on the part of Brooklyn Park Rainbow at 12:45 p.m. today to have B1G1 items in stock that I was looking for. I hate when stores don’t have the inventory to meet demand.

  8. Nichole says:

Last wk I had an awful experience at Rainbow at Northtown. This wk I had an awesome experience at the Coon Rapids location. All coupons accepted with no problems, just smiles and have a nice day. Saved $90 today. Thanks so much for everything.

    • Lisa says:

Nichole – CR Rainbow is always pleasant. I would rather drive past the Northtown Rainbow with my gas light on and go the extra 5 miles or whatever it is chancing that I would run out of gas and have to continue to walk to the CR store before I stop there ever again. LOL, i think that best describes my feelings of which one is better.

      • Traci says:

That is hiarious!!! I was debating on which one I should go to tonight, well I guess I know which one I’m goin to now… :)

        • Julie W says:

Funny you guys! I go to Northtown and always have a great experience, but then always go about 8:00 Wed and have the same cool cashiers every time. As always, time of day, cashiers etc makes the difference. Plus the Wed Night CSM is great.

          julie

          • Stacy says:

I too have never had a problem at the Northtown Rainbow and I have gone many different times of the day.

    • Jennifer H says:

      Nichole –

I always shop at the Coon Rapids Rainbow and have never had an issue – always smiling and very pleasant – both during the day and in the evening.

Today my cashier was having an issue with the pork tenderloin coupon because it wouldn’t scan. She entered it manually but only took one of them off. I just brought my receipt and the other coupon up to customer service and they gave me my money for it – no questions asked.

  9. Nate says:

I’ve found my favorite cashier at the EP Rainbow. I’ve gone to him two weeks in a row at lunchtime. Unfortunately, I forgot to check out his name, but he’s a younger guy (18-21 yrs or so) with slightly longer hair. He literally just scans the coupons without hardly even looking at them. So everything doubles and I was able to use two coupons for things that were B1G1. I can only hope this keeps up.

  10. Maryellen says:

I called the P&G phone number listed at top of ad for the visa just to check on eligible items. And yes, they have a ton that are eligible. She rattled off a lot, too many to remember, sorry. You would have to call too, as she said there isn’t a list anywhere. She told me to maybe check with the store. I don’t think my Rainbow has anything like that. I found out though, that Tide is included. So when I bought Tide with that coupon it is eligible in the $25.00 needed for the $10.00. So is Dawn, Herbal Essence, Dreft and a ton of other detergent. If you have a question maybe give them a call. It is 866-804-7267. I used the Tide and Dawn in order to qualify and it worked. I got my little certificate/coupon to mail in. The certificate/coupon says it must be postmarked by 4/7/10. Which makes me think it will go on for awhile. Maybe pop at at other stores too.

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Maryellen – Thanks for doing that work on everyone’s behalf. I wouldn’t have known that other items beyond those listed in the ad qould qualify. Makes me wonder if the Puffs that you can get free with the Vicks would qualify?

  11. Jennifer says:

    Nate,
I think your comment about the cashier at EP is funny. I too ALWAYS try to head to a younger guy, they are awesome and don’t care if you get a great deal, lots of them even say “wow- great job”

    • Kierstien says:

I totally agree. they dont seem to get all wrapped up in the coupons. the only time they seem to wonder is when it wont scan (which is fine with me!)

  12. Becca says:

Kelloggs prices/money back is still good this week, plus there were new coupons in Sunday’s paper to use – yay! Also, Unilever deal is still good through today, though I don’t think the sale prices are still there. But you still get $5 or $7 back depending on how much you spend!

    • Mary says:

I noticed that the Kelloggs/Keebler deal was still going this week too! I wasn’t planning on doing it again, but I just had to with all the new coupons out this week. I got more great deals. So fun!

  13. Teresa says:

The Lake Street Rainbow has low stock (today I got the last VFusion on the shelf) but the cashiers are always great. The characters hanging out in the parking lot are a bit iffy though….

  14. Jenn says:

Does anyone know if the P&G deal will work if I buy a big box of Luvs for 16.99 (I have a 2.50 off coupon) instead of the jumbo pack of Luvs? Along with other P&G items to reach $25 of course. I scanned the ad to see if there were any P&G products that would not qualify or if there were only certain ones that would qualify… I didn’t see anywhere in the print that eliminated any P&G products so I’m assuming that means ANY Procter and Gamble product, no matter what size, etc. will qualify?

    I’m thinking of doing this:
    Big Box of Luvs 16.99
    Dayquil 4.00
    Nyquil 4.00
    2 tubes of Crest 4.00
I will use the following coupons:
    2.50 off Luvs
    2.00 off Nyquil
    2.00 off Dayquil
Buy 2 Dayquil/Nyquil, get free Puffs
    two .75 off Crest

If this works, after all that is said and done, the total should come to $28.99 (plus tax?). Minus the coupons it’ll be $19.49 and then get $10 back so that would be like $9.49 for all of that which I would be happy with because you can’t even get a big box of diapers for that price anywhere, so I really want to know if anyone knows if the BIG BOX OF LUVS counts as a P&G item towards the $25??

  15. Jolene Kass says:

Hi Lisa- I also shop at the Lakeville Rainbow and last week they told me the same thing. She said they only get reimbursed for one coupon on the B1G1 because your not paying for one. She said the compnay gives them back the double amount. Does anyone out there know whos pays the double part? Is it Rainbow or the manufactor? I went to the Prior Lake store this a.m. and did the Taquitos B1G1 and used 2 coupons with no problem. Jolene

  16. Sarah says:

I shop at the lake street Rainbow too and have never had problems. Everyone is really nice the shelves are always stocked and since the surrounding neiborhoods are so diverse the ethnic food selection is huge. I highly recomend it.
Never had any problems with people in the parkign lot. Their’re just their buying food same as everyone else. :)

  17. FYI on the Hormel Pork Tenderloins – it really does work as a BOGO, despite what the ad and signs say. I also passed it up a couple of weeks ago when I thought they would only give me $5.99 off, but I tempted it today and here’s how it went:

    1 tenderloin: $9.88
    1 tenderloin: $9.40
    less one for free: -$9.40
less two $1.00/1 coupons doubled: -$4.00
Total OOP: two for $5.88 or $2.94 each

I thought that was a good deal, 70% savings.

  18. Gina says:

I also shop in Lakeville every week since they’ve opened. I did ask Linda today, a cashier who has been there for a long time, about the “do not double”. SHe said they were told they have to look at each coupon, pull aside the ones that say “do not double”, double any others, and then ring the DND coupons through . She said they are supposed to be more careful. So, you may get a cashier who is not doing their job correctly, but apparently this is the way it is supposed to be done. Of course, I used all of the coupons anyhow.

Secondly, my store did not have the El Paso Heat N Serve or the Yoplait Smoothie mix. Did I just miss them, maybe they were out?? I will go back Saturday to check. Also, I bought 2 sets of the 8 for $20 with $10 back, and I had to purchase the second set separately.

  19. Kristin says:

I’ve been newly shopping at the Coon Rapids Rainbow and I have had cashiers who don’t pay attention to the “rules” and others who follow every last one of them. At least the one I had this AM was very clear about the coupon program but at the same time very nice about it.
    1) With a buy one get one only the 1st product counts toward your $25.
    2) With a buy one get one you can only use 1 coupon, not 2.
    3) Only the sale prices count toward the $25, not the regular prices. If she did not see $25 on the register before coupons, then she would not double my coupons.
    4) Also with the buy the roast and get the carrots, onions, potatoes deal, only the roast counted toward the $25.

I guess to be on the safe side I will just need to plan to follow all the “rules” or have mass chaos when I get to the register like I did this AM. No fun with child in tow and time limitations.

    • pennyscents says:

This is not true!!! You can always use two coupons on a bogo sale! I have never been given a problem about that at all. Not even at Walgreen’s, which is notorious for giving people problems.

  20. Eva says:

Kristin~ I am a CR shopper … your cashier was right on everything EXCEPT the 2 coupons for BOGO. I had a cashier that questioned it once. I politely asked for a Manager and the Manager clearly explained to the cashier that the BOGO is a store “coupon” and the manufacture coupon may be used for both as the store gets reimbursed by the manufacturer. Try again … and happy saving!

  21. SC says:

I shop the Inver Grove Heights store and I specifically asked the store manager about using two Hormal coupons with the BOGO. He stated that since they were manufacturer coupons that I could use both coupons. If the BOGO would have been a manufacturer issued coupon then they would have not allowed me to use the Hormel Coupons.

I spent a total of $10.06 out of pocket.

    6 boxes Kellogs cereal
2 boxes Nutri Grain cereal bars
    2 Hormel Pork Loins

Spent $20.00 on the Kellogs products and got the $10 off and combined that with 2 cereal coupons worth $1.00 each and then doubled I also had a $1.00 off the cereal bars which was doubled and then received the catalina for $4.00 off my next purchase which I’ll be using on Saturday.

They took both $1.00 Hormel coupons and those were also doubled.

The store was well stocked except for the flipside crackers. Those flew off the shelves early but they are getting another shipment in on Friday.

I have yet to have a bad experience at the IGH store. Their cashiers and customer service are awesome.

  22. Teresa says:

Gina – I did not find the El Paso Heat & Serve either…although I walked down all the isles looking for it. Oh well.

Sarah – No, I have not had problems with the parking lot lurkers either (except to be called “hey, baby”), but they are definitely not shopping like everyone else :)

  23. Theresa says:

My Rainbow is saying they don’t double coupons over $1.00. So if I have a coupon for $1.25, they won’t/can’t double it. I even tried to get them to just double it to a max of $2.00, but they refused. Anyone else run into this?

  24. Priscilla says:

I was so upset today at the Forest Lake Rainbow. I was buying 8 of the Kellogg items (plus other groceries), and the cashier said I could not double coupons unless my total was $25 BEFORE the $10Kellogg discount.

Has anyone had this before? I had to just leave the store & regroup. I ended up going back later to do 3 purchases – of course not nearly as good of a deal.

    • Mary says:

I did that deal last week and this week. Both times it counted $20 toward my total for doubling with buying 8 products.

    • pennyscents says:

my experiences have always been that the $25.00 has to be after any store sales, promos & before any coupons. Meaning only the $10.00 sale price would go towards your $25.00.

      • Jae says:

that’s my understanding of the official policy as well. but, you’ll see that cashiers and stores apply the rule differently and that there’s no consistency from cashier to cashier and store to store.

    • Kimm says:

Yes, you need to spend $25 BEFORE the $10 kelloggs coupon….or look at it as you have to spend $15 AFTER the Kelloggs coupon is deducted in order to double coupons. So — if you’re just trying to do the 8 box Kelloggs deal, you really need to find $5 in additional purchases in order for your coupons to double. (I think Milk, bread, eggs, if you don’t need much else…)

  25. Jen Goebel says:

Bummer, couldn’t print Kraft Cheese coupon says all printed out.

  26. Shannon says:

The Red Gold worked today, for me, on the Sauce and the paste.

  27. Dawn says:

The aquafresh toothpaste coupon worked for me today.

I didn’t get the 5.00 gas thing even though I had over 20.00 so I called and they said to bring in my rec’t but if you use coupons it doesn’t show up. I guess I will see how good customer service is when I bring in my rect. I shop at the Northtown store and have had good luck in the past? I think it just depends on who you get. More to come on the gas thing. I did explain that I saw nothing that indicated if you used coupons you wouldn’t be eligible for the 5.00 card. ????

I made three trips and it really saves.
Did anyone else have issues with the 5.00 card?

  28. Theresa says:

OK, The Rookie here, didn’t realize they don’t double coupons if you don’t spend at least $25.00. Live and Learn!

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Theresa – How do you think I learned the things I share here? Living and learning one week at a time. Sorry that you had a less-than-stellar first experience, but I promise it gets easier and in time, it is actually fun.

  29. Dawn says:

    Jennifer,
Did they count both pork tend. towards the 25.00 total to double coupons?

    • Yes, both pork loins counted towards my $25.00 min, and I figure my transactions on $25.00 at shelf/regular price. Two pork loins regularly at $10 or more each, brought me to $20.00 right there, I also had the BOGO Ronzoni Pasta, V8Vfusion and some fresh produce. I used 2 pork coupons, one pasta coupon, two vfusion coupons, My after sales, bogo, etc total was around $24.02, after five doubled coupons, it came out to $14.02 OOP. I thought that was great for two pork tenderloins, two boxes of pasta, two bottles of expensive juice, and some fresh produce.

I also did the Kellogg’s cereal deal in a separate transaction, I got eight boxes of cereal, two boxes of pasta, three cans of red gold tomatoes, one bag of the yoplait smoothie stuff, my subtotal was $17.33, I had $13.50 in coupons, so my total OOP was $3.83. I have ALWAYS had the $20.00 before Kellogg’s $10.00 discount count toward the $25.00. That $20.00 is the shelf price, and I’ve never had the register not automatically double the coupons as long as I added another $5.00 at shelf price worth of items.

  30. Katie says:

I passed up the Hormel Tenderloin deal this morning after looking at the prices. I did decide to get it tonight after hearing that 1 would be free regardless of price. But when I went tonight, they had a sign up that said the tenderloins were not part of the buy 1/get 1 deal. Disappointing that they would do that.

I have to say though, my Rainbow is still good about other things. They take DND coupons and do not change the prices when a coupon is more than the product. For instance, I made $1.50 when I bought 9 cans of tomato paste for $4.50-$6 in coupons (3-$1). I also purchased Rainbow gift cards to get to $25. They go by shelf price.

You do have to pick the right cashier though, some do scrutinize.

  31. Melissa says:

Was very disappointed at the Brooklyn Park Rainbow today. Went about 5:30 and almost everything on my list with coupons was out of stock. All the buy one get ones were out. The store was in total disarray. I should have just left when I first walked into the store and there was not even one cart in there, I had to walk back outside and get one from the parking lot. I had intended to do three transactions but ended up leaving only doing one because like I said, there was hardly anything in the store. Wish they could have the supply for items that they advertise. Hoping for better luck next week.

  32. Kristin says:

Thank you to those of you who clarified using 2 coupons on BOGO. This is still so new and akward feeling. I hope that next time this happens I have the courage enough to ask for the Manager:) It would have been much easier to do so had the cashier been rude about it, but she really was nice. Right now I’m actually feeling like I want to go back with my 2 coupons they rejected and talk to them, but we’ll see in the AM.

It’s frustrating too, to have a plan in your head/on paper, and then get there and they’re out of things or you just can’t find them. Does this get easier? Over all I’m really enjoying being a smarter shopper, but I hope I can get my act together! At least my shopping at Walgreens seems to be going smoothly:)

    • Priscilla says:

I feel the same way! I worked hard on getting my transactions together before I went & then it was all messed up when they told me I had to have $25 after the $10 Kellogg was deducted – frustrating!

    • Jennifer M. says:

Kristin ~ it will get easier, but even after doing it for a while you will have those trips where you want to slap yourself in the forehead because you did something that minimized your savings. I think that happens to me every time I go! : )

Today my oopsie was on my transaction with the Nivea BOGO coupon. I did not pay attention and when adding the shelf prices up, I stayed too close to $25. I had 5 $1 Qs to double and then 2 of the Nivea BOGO coupons. So, when he scanned the 2 BOGO coupons, the register automatically deducted the shelf price of the Niveas ($3.99 each) and I ended up with a .62 overage. I told him to just take one of the Niveas off and I would get it another time, and then I would have owed $3.37 to Rainbow, but when he tried to do that, his cash register basically locked up and he had to call the cashier manager over and she just adjusted the coupons to take $1 off for each of my BOGO and I ended up owing $5.36. I am not complaining that I ended up paying that much for approx. $30 worth of groceries, I am just saying that if I had paid a little more attention and gotten one or two more items, I would have come out a lot better on the deal. Happy shopping everyone!

    • MP says:

Yes, Kristin, it gets easier. I learned very early on that it is wise to bring “back up” coupons and have an idea of what you could substitute if they are out of something. Lately, though, my Rainbow (NE Mpls) has been very well stocked with the deals. Good luck!

    • Sofi says:

I feel the same way I’m new at this very glad that I found this website and your comments are great , I planned my list the minute Carrie posted it i’m trying so hard to save I head out of the door with my list to Maple Grove and on the bogo items I was told only 1 coupon can be use not 2 (unles you buy 4 items ) I guess it depends on the cashier or they don’t know store policy or luck, who know’s?

Thanks everybody for your comments , suggestions, are very much appreciated !!!

  33. Michele says:

SC – What items in your purchase gave you the $4 cat? I did that same transaction but did not get one.

  34. Sara says:

I typically shop at the Maplewood Rainbow. I am not having any questioning regarding double coupons. I usually have a few extra -but ones the say DND are going through without a problem. What I have noticed in recent weeks, however is that they are no longer going off of $25 shelf price but instead $25 sale price. I need to review their policies -and imagine that this is the case.

I really appreciate the opportunity to do double coupons BUT I truly wish for some type of consistency. The differences in store to store and cashier to cashier make planning the trips mighty tricky.

Are others noticing this change to shelf price?

    • Katie says:

I shop there too. My 4 trans. today were all based on shelf price. When they hit subtotal, I was at $22 or lower and all of my coupons doubled including the DND ones. I even used Rainbow gift cards to make my last 2 trans. add up to $25 shelf price.

I’ve had only 1 lady (an older lady at night) tell me that I was under $25 and my coupons wouldn’t double. I told her to go ahead and scan the coupons and they doubled and she let it go but seemed confused. I avoid her now.

      • Sara says:

Thanks Katie. That is who I checked out with tonight, too (She’s often the only one there after I get done with things at church on Wednesday’s).

    • JoannaV says:

Sara – I shop at Maplewood too (White Bear Ave.) and have always had good luck. I go in the morning or early afternoon and there is one cashier I avoid, because she made a huge scene one day when my total didn’t reach $25 and my coupons were doubling anyway. I explained to her that the computers were set up to go by the shelf price and she got all huffy and called the service desk, so I avoid her. Other than that and a few other hitches, I’ve always had really good luck there uses 2 coupons on bogo’s and having the DNDs double.

  35. SC says:

Michele, you needed to purchase 5 boxes of cereal to get the cat. I purchased 2 boxes of Corn Pops, 2 boxes of Frosted Flakes, and 2 boxes of Fruit Loops. I know that the Apple Jacks were also part of that deal.

  36. SC says:

I had no problem with the Kelloggs cereal deal counting toward my $25 at the IGH store. I usually go before 5 pm though. The general store mananger during the day is Byron. He is great to work with and I was told that if the $4 cat would not print out that they had extras at the customer service desk. They are one of the smallest stores if not the smallest and I they are very accomodating. I was telling the store manager what others have been experiencing at other stores and he said they are not correct in how they are handling things. I also shopped at the Eagan store after work but only bought items that would go through witout a hitch. I go the IGH store for everything else. I am appauled by the overall inconsistencies in individual store policies. If they are corporate owned they should be following the same rules.

  37. Mitzie says:

I bought 3 Old El Paso Heat&Serve sides and received a cat for $1 off my next beef or chicken purchase.

  38. Susan says:

I went to Roseville Rainbow yesterday & the register auto-adjusted for the doubling right up to actual price. No more overages.
    :-(

    • Laura Wales says:

Susan, I’ve found for a while that doubled coupons will only adjust up to the shelf price. Many times you’ll get more than the sale price, though.

  39. Cara says:

I had a great experience at the AV store last night. All of my items were in stock, the B1G1 accepted two coupons, I didn’t get lost in the store thanks to http://www.groceryblueprint.com, and all of my coupons (even the DND ones) doubled!

That was not my experience last week at the same store around 7 am. I think it’s all about the cashier & how close you watch to catch errors right away. I’ll be going back in the evening from now on.

    • Sarah Beth says:

That groceryblueprint looked kinda cool – but when I select a store it is only Apple Valley.
Do you know if they have a website with more locations??

  40. I got a great deal on the P&G items, I spent $12.22 OOP and I’ll get the $10.00 Visa back, so my net was $2.22 for a ton of stuff! I didn’t do the deal Carrie laid out here, I don’t have pets so it wasn’t a practical scenario for me. I do plan to post the transaction before Saturday, and I’ll even have it up as a possible money maker, because I actually purchased $32.91 of product before coupons, so more than was even necessary. Super excited about getting that visa, that will help out a future Rainbow shopping trip!

  41. It was a slower week than usual for me, and my store was also out of the Yoplait Smoothies–they are always out when they are on sale–so I had to improvise for the GM fuel deal.

    http://momforhim.blogspot.com/2010/02/weekly-groceries-under-40.html

  42. Connie says:

FYI-many times I have run several orders in a day, and know that the computer won’t take more than 7. That was the magic number…until today. They must have changed the limit to 4, because that is when it gave the error code of “limit # of orders”. Bummer:>(

    • Kimm says:

Can you elaborate? Is it tied to your Roundy’s card or store? So, can you do 4 transactions at 2 different stores = 8 transactions for the day? I’ve never heard of this limit — although 3 or 4 in a day is probably the most I have ever done (and probably all I really care to do!)

  43. Cecia says:

    Shannon -

I sign up on Pampers website and receive quarterly coupons. But I also receive coupons at checkout from Rainbow every time I purchase a pampers product. Usually a $2 off and a $1 off wipes (often results in nearly free wipes). I’m pretty brand loyal already so the additional Rainbow coupons are a nice perk.

  44. Sarah Burrill says:

Can any of you who had really successful OOP deals from Wed’s shopping trip post their actual transactions/coupons used for us Saturday shoppers so we might learn from your awesome shopping skills and knowledge? Please, pretty, please. . .

    • I had a great transaction on the P&G deal, I have it posted here. I listed not only what I did (which was $2.22 net OOP), but also a scenario that is a money-maker on the P&G items with the Visa Card promotion.

BTW: you can make the P&G deal a money-maker WITHOUT doubling coupons, so you could do it today or tomorrow if you’re not able to make it to Rainbow on Saturday. HTH!!

  45. Bridget says:

I’m new to “couponing”. Is there a way to get coupons from OLD SmartSource and Red Plum. I just started buying the Sunday paper so I don’t have previous coupon inserts.
    Thanks!

    • Laura Wales says:

Bridget, I think your best bet is to look online. There are sellers on eBay that sell complete inserts or you could use a website like thecouponclippers.com to purchase individual coupons. Some people are OK with purchasing coupons, some aren’t. It’s really your call. When I first started, I just worked with the coupons I had until I got more…you’ll build up your coupon stockpile before you know it. Just be patient!

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Bridget – One other thing I’d add to the great info Laura shared is that you’ll be amazed to find out that the vast majority of coupons referred to in the shopping list are fairly current (within a month or so). If you get the paper for a few weeks, then in no time at all you’ll feel “caught up” a vast majority of the time.

  46. Kierstien says:

Kellogs Deal $10 off when you buy 8
Does anyone know if nutrigrain bars are in this deal?

  47. Lynn says:

I am very new to this and will be going out for the first time this weekend to Rainbow. I checked with the store I am going to and they go by sale price not retail price for their $25 limit for double coupons. Does anyone have a store out there that would double on retail price? I am in southern MN, so thinking Chaska, Savage, EP area. Thanks for anyones help.

  48. Dawn says:

I have many coupons but like many have said they don’t always have what I plan for and I try to take some extra coupons just in case.

I still need a way to organize my coupons so I could have many extra with just in case.

    • Shanon S says:

Dawn:I have a hybrid system that I use. I take the coupons that I have planned on and then I scan the list for things I may want or can subsitute if I need to.

I have already cut out and printed out all the coupons for items that I either will need soon or know I will always use (like Cheerios).

Then I take my holder with the one’s I always use and hten my stack of planned coupns to use. Since I have done this it has worked out better.

    • Kimm says:

Hi Dawn – my method involves going through the newspaper inserts weekly and clipping all those that interest me. (This includes products I know I use and high value coupons for products I may/may not need — for example, I don’t usually buy scented warmers etc because I feel I have plenty. However, if I find a $5 coupon, I usually clip because it might go on sale to make it free. Free = Donate and/or Filler to get to the $25 threshhold.) I then file my coupons by category in 3 separate recipe boxes that latch closed. I keep all of these coupon holders in a cloth bag that I typically store in my car trunk — so if I make a last minute stop at the store, I have my coupons with me. ( bring the whole ‘coupon bag’ into the store with me.
I have tried Carrie’s method of saving all the inserts and only clipping what I need, when I need it, but that didn’t work for me because I discovered I make a fair amount of spontaneous stops….(sometimes without having even looked at the ad until I walk into the store) and/or I find all kinds of things on markdown/sale that weren’t advertised and I just KNOW I had a coupon! :-) Also…I find my good intentions fall short. Having a FT job and family, my good intentions might want to check out the ads Sunday nite, clip on Monday, etc…but before I know it, it’s double coupon day and I haven’t even looked at the ad!
I do keep the inserts I’ve clipped from and date them in case some great sale comes along for an item I know I don’t typically clip. This gives me the ability to go back and look for the coupon. (I keep these at home — I don’t carry them with me).
I also have a couple of envelopes I keep in my cloth coupon bag for “to file” or “refile”….for those days I’m clipping at midnight for the next day shopping trip and am just too tired to file in the right category…or for those coupons I pulled thinking I was going to use them, but the store was out. Just gives me a place to keep them together so I can file them in my leisure time.
Also in my coupon bag, I keep a manilla folder with a notebook, print outs from PYD (Carrie’s shopping lists), and store ads.
I think you’ll find that a lot of people on PYD have their own way of managing their coupons. I’m sure you’ll find a way that works best for you after you’ve tried out some of the many suggestions from this site.
      Good luck and happy couponing!

    • Anne says:

      Hi Dawn…

I do not keep the whole flyer either, I feel it is too cumbersome and just does not work for me. I also do not usually plan out a shopping trip in advance (to places like Rainbow) because I often find if I plan it all out I cannot get the item because it is out of stock. I have tried several different ways of doing things, but what has started to work for me is having a coupon bag (like Kimm talked about). I got two or three coupon holders from the dollar store a while back. They were not thick enough for me so I put in cardboard and “extended” them. (however I like Kimms idea of using a plastic recipe holder!). I added all of my own labels because I like to have MANY categories to make it easier to find my coupons. I also got a small notebook, the 5 star kind, that has little pockets in the front. I always felt like I was juggling coupons around and these little pockets have helped keep all of the coupons I am using in ONE place! :) I then go around the store, writing down the sale price and making different transactions. I note the product, if it has a coupon, the coupon amount and then circle it if I want it to double. That way I dont have to scramble and think about what 5 I need to give to the cashier first. I am proud to say that I did three transactionsat once at Rainbow this week! :) (which may seem small to some, but I was the girl who would checkout and go to my car in between each transaction!) I hope all of this advice gives you some point to start out at! :) Good luck!

  49. Kathy says:

Yes the Nutrigrain bars are part of the Kellog’s deal.

  50. Dawn says:

Thanks for the help. I like the ideas. That way I am not spending all my time figuring only to be disappointed or to find an item on sale that I didn’t know would be there. I will keep trying the ideas.
