Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 1/31 – 2/6/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

As always, Roundy’s stores will double the face value of up to 5 coupons on Wednesday when you meet all the other criteria I mention here with this caveat:

Coupons that say “Do Not Double.” It has always been Roundy’s official policy that they do not double coupons that say “do not double.” On numerous occasions I had asked the cashiers and management at the store where I shop about that and was told that if the register doubles the coupon, then it could be doubled. In the last week Roundy’s corporate has asked the stores to stop accepting coupons that say “do not double.” I understand that last week some cashiers took “do not double” coupons and others did not. Personally, I will be forthright and ask this week about them, but will not plan on them doubling.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I cannot tell which printable coupons say “do not double” and which do not apart from printing them and I cannot always print every coupon (sometimes I have already printed it, etc.). That means 1) I will try, by process of observation, to note which coupons allow for doubling and which don’t (but I won’t ever learn them all), 2) I typed the list as if every coupon can be doubled (since I cannot tell from the databases I use which allow for doubling and which don’t), but 3) you will have to review the coupons cross-referenced on this list to confirm whether they can be doubled or not.

Comments

  1. rachael says:

yep…he did. That’s weird…I would think the register would automatically “spit” it out. Sorry!! I know how dissappointing that is….maybe you could take your receipt in and see if they can help you at customer services??

    • Becky says:

I went to the Maple Grove Rainbow and did the Unilever deal but the catalina didn’t come up for me. I went to Customer Service and they didn’t know anything about the deal but told me that I probably needed a Roundy’s Reward Card to get it. Is that true?

      • Carrie Rocha says:

Becky – I threw out my weekly ad so I can’t confirm whether you need a Roundy’s card or not. I’m sorry that you had a disappointing experience. 99% of the people at Maple Grove are fabulous, but sometimes the people in Customer Service there are less than helpful. I did the Unilever deal at Maple Grove without a problem.

        • Jonna says:

That sounds like another case of making something up to get you to stop asking questions. I carefully looked over the ad and it does not say anything about a Roundy’s card. It also does say that it is the participating products pictured in the ad, but the OYNO Q lists other participating products. Has anyone tried it with some other things listed on there for another purchase? I’m going to try it with Dove hair care products tomorrow since it’s listed on the OYNO as participating, but is not pictured. Also, can you use the ONYO and get another printed off the next transaction? Or is it like Walgreen’s where you can pay with one and get another one, or however that works?

  2. Lauren says:

I just went to the Rainbow in Roseville, and I bought the Organix shampoo & conditioner. They rang up as being 1/2 off… 3.49/each, instead of B1G1. So with the mail-in rebate coupon, I’ll only be getting back 3.49. Still a good deal, but not as good as free. Just wanted to share. I only picked out one that had a coupon – trying to leave some for others! But if I had known they would ring up like this, I would have gotten coupons for both.

  3. rachael says:

check out my friends post about Kellogg’s: http://spendfreely.blogspot.com/2010/02/kelloggs-cereal-rebate-and-printable.html

The coupon won’t double, but it’ll still be an AWESOME deal! :)

    • Kierstien says:

Thanks! I only have two of the $1/3 so i needed another q for the deal! Thanks :) also rebate…i’ll look for that!

  4. Lauren says:

Actually, just read the mail-in rebate, and it says limit 1 offer / household.

  5. Lisa says:

Nate – Are we looking for a cat or a printed coupon on the receipt? That always gets me – the PG deal was like that and I went to CS took 10 minutes figuring it out then realized it was on the receipt.

  6. Paige says:

The Keebler Fudge Shoppe Cheesecake Middles weren’t part of the 8/$10 deal at the Apple Valley Rainbow. Has anyone else had luck with this being part of the deal?

    • Erin says:

Not at my location (Savage) either. :(

    • Shelly says:

I took a chance and got the peanut butter in the middle ones instead, and the two $1 off coupons worked fine for those. That was nice (although I would have preferred to get the cheesecake variety!!!)

    • Kristi says:

That’s why my $10 off wouldn’t work! But the shelf did say it was on the promotion!!! The supervisor came over and just took $10 off my bill! and I used my coupon, I had to go read my receipt after what I read here and UGH, it says $3.39 Plus I got diced tomatoes that said 50% off I read the sticker carefully and they said reg. price. Does anyone else constanly have issues of them overcharging you? I am always going back to get my $ back!

      • Valerie Y says:

Yes, I had this happen to me once with some Senseo coffee. The tag read that it was 50% off (2.22) but it rang up at 4.50. I was talking to the cashier as she rang it up and didn’t notice, but I did go back to the customer service and get my money. It also happened to me with a sales item from their flyer. Can’t remember what it was. So it seems like we really have to be observant as we watch things ring up!

  7. Sandy says:

Our Rainbow in Maple Grove is doubling 5 coupons on Saturdays through April 10. Yippee!

    • Kari says:

In today’s Pioneer Press there was a Rainbow ad saying they’re doubling coupons on Saturday until the middle of April. I work on Wed. and don’t have a Rainbow close by so I’m hoping to start making trips there on Saturdays now.

      • Susan says:

West St. Paul Rainbow is also doubling on Saturdays for a few weeks (the supervisor, however, made it sound like it may run longer than posted).

    • Karen says:

      Same in Bloomington!

  8. Nichole says:

Rainbow in Blaine, Northtown. Does not give the $10 off kelloggs if coupons are used and will not give $5 on unilever if coupons are used. Total waste of time. Will not shop at Rainbow again.

    • Kristi says:

I never got my unilever catalina either!

    • raine says:

I went to Rainbow in Blaine, Northtown and brought $20 in unilever products, did not receive my $7 on next order. Was told by Customer service that your total on the unilever products needed to add up to $15 after coupons.

      • Susan says:

I feel bad that you had a bad experience. I had not problems using coupons on the products, got the $7, dropped off my first batch of groceries and went back for the $10 off Kelloggs offer. This week I managed to save about 67%! Spent $30 and save $65! I love this website!!

  9. Jessica B. says:

Just came back from Pick n Save. Bought the Unilever products with coupons and got the $7 catalina.

  10. Shannon says:

In reference to the Unilever promotion; does anyone know if the Eagan or Inver Grove Rainbow wiil print off the $7 catalina if you use coupons?

    • Susan says:

West St. Paul will! I used coupons on each of the products and still get the $7 off next order. You could try it on Sat when they’ll double coupons again! I did go through the self check area, but the supervisor had to hand enter all the coupons so I don’t think that was the reason I got the double coupons and $7 off next order.

  11. Heather says:

Hi everyone. Just came upon this deal at Rainbow in Coon Raids today: Loreal kids Ice Age shampoo on clearance for $1.59…use .75 coupon doubled to get it for .09!!

    • Kierstien says:

oooh hope they have this on sale at mine! and even if i dont use it as a dbl cpn still good at .84ea and will help me get to my $25 “threshold” Thanks!

    • Traci says:

Where did you find the coupon?

      • Jenn says:

Hi Tracy I’m pretty sure it was either in the 1/24 or 1/31 insert. Not sure which one but guessing SS. I always clip my coupons or at least the ones I think I will use.

And thanks for letting us know, Heather! They were also 50% at the Roseville Rainbow, so I got two of these for just .09 each!!! They even smell great! I tend to get Suave kids because with coupons they can be really cheap, but nothing beats this price :)

    • sandra says:

Heather did you include this item in a 25.00 deal is so what did you do?

  12. Kierstien says:

Anyone shop at lakeville cub today? Do you know if they give you kellogs deal w/cpns and/or unilever w/cpns? I would like to know b efore i go there? Thanx

  13. Shannon says:

For those of you in need of enrgy star bulbs The Rainbow in Eagan and Inver Grove has the GE Energy Smart bulbs for $1 each not sure about the other stores though.. There is a $1 off two coupon available here:
    http://www.gelighting.com/na/home_lighting/coupons_offers/

This would give you two free bulbs after doubling the coupon. You can print the coupon twice.

  14. Erin says:

I’m new to this. Can I use more than 5 coupons but only the first 5 are doubled or can I only use 5 coupons total, doubled or not?

    • Shelly says:

Erin, you can use as many coupons as you want, but only 5 are doubled. So be sure to hand your highest value coupons to the cashier first because they double in the order in which you give them to her/him.

    • Kierstien says:

To make sure I give them my first 5 highest value cpns first then once they all dbl i give the rest. Because I’ve heard a few stories where cashiers mess the “pile” up. So i never wanna take any chances so give 5 first then the rest! Good Luck :)

  15. Rachel J. says:

    Hi everyone,

I’m not trying to question you Nichole, but most of the things people post on here is not true. Like not being able to use coupons on the promotion they have? If a cashier really told you that, I’d suggest you try a different cashier or call over the manger. Or, there was an earlier post about not getting the $5 or $7 CAT simply because you used coupons – again that is NOT true. I know this from experience shopping at Rainbow, although I guess YMMV depending on what store you go to.

I was at the Bloomington Rainbow today – and they were stocked pretty well. Just a heads up that I did find the Ragu for $3.29 shelf price (it was a bigger jar and was ORGANIC- can you believe it?), although most shelf prices were $2.29- so beware when making your deal scenarioes.

I did the Unilever deal, used coupons, spent about $4 and got back a $5 CAT. Pretty good!

I also did the cereal deal and bough 4 deans dips, all for only $4!
(I used 2, $1/3 cereal coupons and 1, $1/2 cereal coupon along with 2 of the Dean’s coupons for $1/2 which brought me over the $25 threshold and they were free)

    • Kierstien says:

Thanks rachel! I sometimes get caught up on the “talk” thanks for opening my eyes!!! My rainbow is usually GREAT so I just need to trust that!

Could you please tell me what you got for the unilever deal to spend only $4?

Also does anyone if you can use the unilever OYNO cpn to do the deal again? So if i got $15 worth of products got the $5 catalina and turned around and did it again and use the $5 cat. would i get another??? or no?
      Thanks

  16. Kierstien says:

Ahhh planning my trip right now! I am a last min girl :) will go at 7pm 2nite my rainbow is so relaxing by then!
Hope there is cereal left…if not can i get a rainchekc

    • Shelly says:

You’re probably smart to do that, Kierstan! This way you can read all the comments and get any other deals/problems/, etc! I usually go right after work (12:30 pm). Not good because I’m hungry : ) But today my afternoon was very busy, so I decided to go at 7 am. Great time because the store is VERY quiet. However, the downside is that there was only 1 cashier and the self-checks weren’t even open, so I felt I needed to let some folks with one item go in front of me. Finally, they did open the self checks and another one. Otherwise, this is when I feel very guilty using coupons! The other downside to 7 am is that their salad bar isn’t even open yet. I buy Blue Cheese sprinkles to go on my home salads for the week, and never spend more than .20 – .40 a week on those sprinkles : )

  17. Rachel J. says:

Sure, I can tell you exactly what I got.

(*Oh and after reading my last post, $3.29 shelf price, and $1.50 on sale of course)

Here is what I did for the unilever deal:

4 Wishbone spray dressing ($1.59 sale, $2.79 shelf price)
4 Ragu organic pasta sauces- ($1.50 sale price, $3.39 shelf price)
2 skippy peanut butters ($1.50 sale price, $2.29 shelf price)

So to get to $25, here it is:
    $2.79×4 = $11.16
    $3.39×4= $13.56
    $2.29×2 = $4.58
For a grand total of: $29.30 shelf price

    To get the Unilever deal:
    $6 Ragu (sale price)
    $3 Skippy (sale price)
    $6.36
    Total= $15.36, so I got the $5 CAT
Then, I doubled 5 of the coupons:

    Ragu: 2, $1/2 coupons
    WishBone: 4, $1/1 coupons
    Skippy: 1, .75/2 coupons

I doubled 5, $1 coupons and then just took off the rest

$15.36-$10, then deduct .75 and $1 (that was not doubled)

    Total OOP: $3.61

Let me know if that is confusing. It can be because I had to reach $25 shelf price to double mu coupons as well as reach $15 in certain products to get the $5 CAT.

  18. Rachel J. says:

Oops, $6.36 is the total for the Wishbone :)

  19. Mary says:

Did anyone try using the 1.50/2 boxes of Kelloggs? The cashier at the Eagan Rainbow refused to take them because they were internet coupons over $1. I have never had an issue with them before today.

  20. Eva says:

Just came back from Rainbow … good shopping and GREAT news!! The Rainbow in Coon Rapids is offering double coupon Saturdays (in addition to Wednesdays) this saturday and on the 12th too! Happy valentine’s Day for EVERYONE!!!

  21. melanie says:

I just came from the Eagan Rainbow and DID NOT get the Unilver catalina. I spent over $20 before coupons buying 4 peanut butter, 2 ragu, 4 dressings, 3 Knorr sides, 2 soup mixes, etc. I went to customer service and was told if you did not spend the $15 or $20 after coupons you would not get the $5 or $7?? :(

Anyone have any further details on this why it works for some and not others?

  22. Carrie Rocha says:

Palermo. If these are on sale B1G1, then I am going to use 2 $1/1 printable coupons here: http://www.palermoslafamiglia.com/LaFamiglia/la-famiglia-login.aspx?get-coupon=1

    • Lisa says:

3.99 – not B1G1 at CR last night. I did some scoping since I know I can come in on Saturday if I want to. Made last night must more laid back in what I wanted to accomplish.

  23. Kristi says:

I did 2 transactions today and overall paid .99 an item X44 items I mainly did a stock up trip
6 cereal, 8 crackers, 2 fruit snacks, 1 cookie, 1 granola bar, bbq sauce, 2 western, 2 pb, 2 ragu, 2 big cans of chili & kidney beans, 2 diced tomato, 2 wheat bread, tomato sauce, 2 cat treats, 2 pizzas, ice cream, hot pocket hot shots, onion, lettuce, wonton wraps, string cheese, fruitables juice boxes. and I should get back some $ for over charge on cookies and diced tomatoes, plus my 1.25/2 cereal coupon didn’t work cashier must not of noticed. I also got a few veggies at aldi this wk for real cheap. I think I did ok, but hope to get better! And I also got no catalina on my unilever products.

    • Jonna says:

I had the same thing. I kind of delayed in anticipation, which worked. I am planning another trip for tomorrow to get some other things. I’m wondering though, if I use my $7 off from Wed tomorrow if it will print another cat for $5 off if I purchase another 15 in Unilever. My plan is to purchase $15 in Unilever to be able to get the 5 off and still meet my $25 to be able to double coupons. I’m doing this with 4 Liption Onion soup, 2 Dove hair products (2/7 with 1.50 coupons in RP 1/31), and 2 skippy. I figured it out that this would be 15.16 with 7 dollars in coupons (when doubled) and my 7 off next purchase. Plus I’m going to be getting Frank’s hot sauce with a .50/1 and Dannon Light and Fit $1/6 printable. This should get the total over 25 shelf price, if not, I’ll add a couple fillers. Otherwise, I may have to change my game plan.

  24. Erin Lynn says:

I called my local Rainbow (Forest Lake) and asked if I would still get the cat from the unilever deal if I used coupons. The customer service lady assured me I would as it is based off shelf price. So, I am going tonight and we will see!

    • Susie says:

I visited the Forest Lake Rainbow this morning. I used coupons and my cat printed off. It was delayed in printing, but my cashier caught it before I left…thank goodness! :)

    • Kristi says:

My unilever items were on my 1st transaction, and w/ the second I had to wait for the kellogs deal to be taken off manually, only things I got were oil change coupons, hot pocket coupons a bummer, but life goes on. =)

  25. Rachel J. says:

    Melanie,

The only thing that I can think of is that they told you that because they didn’t know what else to tell you.

The two things I think of that could have made it not print:
    1) their printer was out of paper for the CATs to print off
    2) maybe for a few of the items you bought the wrong size or variety, so it really did not add up to your $20 (you need to be very careful and make sure you are getting the right size, etc.)

    That really stinks!

Good luck at Rainbow Eagan today. Came out better than I first calculated. Thanks to the blogger who gave me the heads up on the Gold Bond Q in Rainbows insert for $4 good on any size. Today on a display they had moisturizing GB hand sanitizer for $1.29, I bought 2 and had overage. Here is what I bought:
9 (because of Q’s) kelloggs products $22.50 – in store Kelloggs promo of $10 off- Manf Q’s of $6 off (3 – $1manf Q’s doubled, and 1 catalina from Rainbow for $2 off 3 Frosted flakes which would not double)
    4 Deans Dips $4, Free with 2 – $1 Manf Q’s doubled
1 Sargentto Cheese $1.99 used .50 cent Q not eligble for double
2 Triscuits @$1.99 with 2-$1Q’s not eligble for double (DND Q’s)
2 Gold Bond Ult. hand sanitizers for 1.29 each used $4 in ad Q
Used the Unilever catalina for $7.00 off next purchase from previous transaction.
And had to add a Butterfinger for .50 cents since they would not give me cash back.
Spent .05 cents out of pocket.

  27. Barb says:

    Unilever Purchase today:
    8 Ragu sauce $12
    12 Knorr Sides $12
    Ice Cream .99cents
    2 Country Crock B1G1 spread $3.89
Manf Q’s Doubled came to $12.75
Total OOP $16.13 plus the catalina spit out of $7 good on next purchase. (see above the next purchase was only 5 cents.)

  28. Terry says:

Nichole- The register takes off the $10 when you scan that last eligable Kelloggs item. Its not because you use coupons. You could of got the wrong item on 1 of your items. And that will mess everything up. Since you have to buy 8 products that are with that promotion. I would check over your receipt.

  29. Erin Rose says:

So I wasnt planning on going to Rainbow today. But, as I was running errands, I kept thinking about the Totinos pizzas that were on sale. They are my hubbys FAVORITE pizza and to get 5 for only $3 after double coupon was a great deal. They are usually $1.25 at Target or Walmart. So to get them for 60cents each was a great price! We are well stocked right now. I’m so thankful we have 2 big freezers!

I didnt do any of the other deals that you all are doing.

I wonder what people thought with my 15 pizzas, 4 12-packs of pop, donuts, yogurt, and butter? ;-)

  30. Lynn says:

I was wondering if the Keebler cheesecake in the middle cookies are part of the Keebler deal at some of the Rainbows. I went to one in Cottage Grove and they were not. I was a little bummed because I had two $1 off coupons but still had a great trip at Rainbow this week. I am getting better each week and for the first time thought I made it really worth it. Thanks everyone for all the great tips.

    • Shelly says:

Lynn, they weren’t part of the deal at my Rainbow. I took a chance and bought 2 of the kind with peanut butter in the middle instead. I knew they were okay for the Kellogg’s $10 deal, but didn’t know if my 2 $1 off coupons would work. But they worked just fine. I have found that sometimes, those really specific coupons end up working okay for other items (like a real specific flavor of a certain product I mean).

  32. Ann says:

Not sure if this was posted but they are having doublE coupon on Saturday feburary 6th through April 10th 2010 gtg!

  33. Lisa says:

I used the $1.50/2 Kellogg’s cereals (Internet coupon) at the RB off of 169 and Highway 55 and it worked great! Also got that $10 deal – my husband was amazed at all I saved today. Also used the Chinet, Cottonelle and Dean’s Dips coupons.

Thanks Carrie! This is my new favorite website!

  34. Nicki says:

Carrie, I talked to a Rainbow customer service rep (Eagan, MN) last night and she said starting this Saturday through April 11th I believe, they are doing double coupons every Saturday as well.

    Hope that helps!

  35. Eva says:

Yup I stand corrected … the double coupon runs at all Rainbows statrting this Saturday through April 20th! AND WEDNESDAYS too!!! Time to buy a lot more papers!! And I did the Unilever deal and got my cat …

  36. Michelle says:

I had an amazing cashier tonight, same one that I had last week, she was SO helpful and friendly, I will always make sure to visit her line on Wednesday evenings! I did three separate transactions and she didn’t bat an eye, she even complimented my math skills when one of them was $25.11 before coupons. =)

I spent $43.10 and saved $67.82, I think that’s the best I’ve done so far. (on one of my 3 transactions I spent $10.09 and saved $30.77, that’s over 75%, yay!)

  37. Angela P says:

I went to the Lakeville Rainbow tonight and got great results. I had a total of 4 transactions and only spent $56.38 on a total of $154.78 worth of groceries. My best transaction was 8 boxes of the Kebler products for only $1.50. That made then only 18 cents each. Made my night!!
Can’t wait to go back again on Saturday. Does anyone know it the same coupon policy applies as on Wednesdays? (5 doubled coupons per $25 purchase)

  38. MP says:

There was a coupon for Club crackers in the 1/31 Parade magazine and those were included in the Kelloggs/Keebler deal. I wasn’t going to post this since it’s so late, but now I know you can use it on Sat. YEAH!

Also, for those of you who got the coupon for free Oreos from Facebook, you CAN use them at Rainbow- just be sure to point out that they are NOT printed coupons (they look like it on the front, but the back is different. I just showed them the whole page that was mailed to me. (I asked about this at my rainbow- the quarry- after leaving another rainbow-AV- in frustration for not taking my coupon)

  39. Dawn says:

    WOOOWHOOO
In the St. Paul Pioneer Press today there is a notice that Rainbow will double coupons on Saturdays from Feb.6-April 10. This is in addition to the Wednesdays. So watch for the 3 day ad and see if more deals are available. I tossed mine so will dig it out of recycle bin to check it out. Of course the deals I didn’t get on Wednesday I can now get on Saturday!

    YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. Lisa says:

Alright not to rub salt in anyones wound who went to the Blaine Rainbow but my mom did get a catalina for the Unilever deal and she used coupons. I haven’t done the math on anything but i tried to ask her quickly what she got –

    2 Country Crock – 1q
    2 Ragu – 1q
    2 Skippy – 1q
    3 Knorr – 1q
    2 Lipton – 1q

Based on the prices above that’s 15.58 (counting the country crock twice). All her coupons doubled as well. She may have bought a bigger size country crock because I know she usually does but even with that at a higher price her total should have been less than $15 with coupons.

I think that the previous post that said someone who was working there might not have know what was going on and just made up the after coupons. Maybe one of the items wasn’t set to be included in the deal and the register missed it????

  41. I did 4 transactions and spent $31.10, saving $86 or 73%. I even got paid money out of the register on one transaction! That’s never happened to me before!

Thanks Carrie! I am going to try customer service again and see what they say. I have had good experiences with Rainbow so far outside of this time. You had come to our couponing class in MG and I decided to give Rainbow a try (I am a diehard Cub Foods fan) and been pleasantly surprised. Not ready to write Rainbow off just yet because of this. On to my next deal…

  44. Andrea says:

Does anyone know if you can do the Rainbow Kellogg’s deal twice and get $20 off (in one transaction)??? Thanks…

  45. Terry says:

Andrea –I belive there is no limit. Every 8 boxes you buy you get your $10 off. I have done it in the past.

  46. Alison says:

Great week at Rainbow – spent $45.05 OOP for $195.65 worth of groceries. Did the Kelloggs cereal/cracker deal a few times since we were almost out of cereal and now we have a ton of Special K cereal…at least it’s a decent cereal to eat.

  47. Nichole says:

I did talk with the customer service at Northtown Rainbow. I was unable to wait for the manager, there was a problem with one of the cookies that I bought and was doubled charged for them. The unilever was also a problem at the Northtown shop. I will try Coon Rapids next time. Customer service at the time that I wanted my receipt checked was on the phone discussing this matter with another customer, she looked frustrated and disappointed herself. Thanks

    • Ginger Walters says:

Oh poor Nichole….but I did tell you not to shop there!!! Maybe u should listen to your friends!!!! :) hahaha

  48. sandra says:
