Cub Shopping List 2/14 – 2/20/10

Another week at Cub Foods without tons of rock bottom-priced items.  My favorite this week is probably the cheese. We eat a lot of it and $1 for 8 ounces is a good price.

You may notice that some of the coupons mentioned in this list are expired. That is because Cub stores accept coupons up to 3 months past their expiration date (and in some cases up to 5 or 6 months past). If you are new to Pocket Your Dollars, then learn to read this shopping list. If you are having issues, troubleshoot problems printing coupons here.

I think $1 lb is a good price for grapes.

I just bought two Smart Balance sour creams last week at Rainbow.
This may be a dumb question, but….Has anyone ever tried freezing sour cream?

    1. Holly

My mom freezes sour cream, but only to thaw and use in hotdishes/casseroles and items that will be baked, but it doesn’t work well to freeze sour cream if you are planning to use it on tacos or as a cold dip, etc.

    2. Katy

I asked a gal at Rainbow who was buying a lot of sour cream about freezing it-she said she has tried it before and would not do it again or recommend anyone else do it.

      Thanks for the tips everyone!

I freeze milk all the time – especially when they are running a good deal =I stock up to last till the next time milk is on sale

    1. Tanja

How do you freeze milk? Do you have to open it and poor some out?

  5. Lynn

Target in Maple Grove has the steak and chicken strips (Tyson) for $2.49.

  6. Vicky DeMars

Hi Kari, How do I get a subscription to All You magazine for 69cents?

Has anyone tried using Walgreens Register Rewards at the Arden Hills Cub?
I tried at the Roseville Cub tonight and was at first told to try it and see if it works but then was told it would not work. I was at the self checkout and tried it anyway and it did scan right so I put it into the machine like it told me to do but needed authorization at the end… and they said I could not use it. But they also could not find the keys to get me my coupon back from the machine (apparently a employee had taken them home!) but eventually they did get me my $8 coupon back.

  8. Michele

Tanja – I have always removed some of the milk before freezing it but have to admit I do it this way only because this is how my mom has always done it – not because I know the real answer.

  9. Lindsey M

After you thaw the milk, do you keep it for as long as it would have been good had you not frozen it? For instance, if it was going to expire in four days when you froze it, do you consider its expiration date four days from when you thaw it out? I hope that makes sense.

    POP SECRET

Can also use 11-8 Smartsource coupon 2/$1 expired (12-20-09), since Cub takes expired coupons

      Thanks, Erin!

    Select Kellog’s Cereal’s
The coupon for 1/$1 is only for Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, All-Bran, and Crispix. Will only work for the Corn Flakes-$.99.

  12. Lynn

I don’t know if anyone did answer the question, do you HAVE to poor out a little milk before freezing it? I am very new here, but love all the tips I am learning from all of you.

  13. Lindsey M

Here is a link about freezing milk.

    1. Kelly

WOW, thanks for sharing, I would never think that one could freeze milk, that is GREAT to know!!

  14. Cheryl

Lynn – Yes, you have to pour a little of the milk out so when it expands it doesn’t explode your jug.

Here is a great deal. I was at the Bloomington Cub on Old Shakopee Rd and France Ave. They have Pillsbury Chocolate Cookie Dough for $1.00. It is on an end cap and also the normal place they put cookie dough. The expiration date is 3/11/2010. I am not sure why it was so cheap. If you purchase four of them you also get a $2.00 rewards coupon for a future purchase. I actually made 50 cents on this item. I had a coupon for $1.50 off two packages. I also had a coupon for $1.00 off of two packages. This made my order $1.50. I then had a $2.00 coupon for a future purchase. I then made 50 cents on the order.

I went to Cub (plymouth) last night to use a bunch of RR. I have used them there before without any trouble, but this time only one would scan through. The manager said that they would only work if it was generated from a brand they carry. So, the Pepsi one went through, but not the others. (unilever, J & J, etc) I thought that strange, since obviously they do carry these brands, but didn’t push the issue.
Anyone else have this come up?
I would like to be able to use these at Cub, because it is so much more convenient than trying to figure out what to use at WG. Any thoughts?

I’ve never posted a comment before but thought everyone should know that Excel Energy is running a promotion where you get florescent lightbulbs for only $1 at certain places like Target, Walmart, Cub Foods, etc. To find out where they are priced for a dollar in your area just go to their website Excelenergy.com I also had a couple of coupons for $1 off so I got some for FREE! Just thought I would share!

    1. Angela II

      It’s not Excel, it’s Xcel Energy. :o)

Cub brand cereal and instant oatmeal are on sale for $1/box.

I am looking to use some Wags Register Rewards at Cub Foods, but do not know which stores accept them. I called Elk River and they do not accept them. Does anyone know which one DO accept them? Otsego? St. Cloud? Monticello?
I noticed Joanna had some luck in Plymouth.

    1. Kierstien

I have heard that monticello lets you use them! i would ask at cust service as well!

Call Supervalue corporate (you can find this on their website) and ask for your nearest corporate owned Cub. Closest for me is the Stillwater Cub..I used $60 in rr’s at this store in December…young cashier seemed unsure, so I asked him to just try ..they all worked!

  21. Kristin

I tried using my RR at the Corporate-owned Cub in Blaine (all in Blaine are corporate-owned) on 65 and 125th Ave, but they would not take them. I would love it if they did!

    1. Kierstien

did you ask the cust service desk? or was it just the cashier that would not accept it? I have only found ONE cashier at my lakeville cub that didnt question them. but the cust service manager says i can use them so i always check there first and tell the cashier “i asked manager” and they call her over and let me use them!!
