Carrie’s Picks from Coupon Inserts 2/28/10

Your paper should have had one insert in it, a lonely Smart Source. I apologize that the Sunday Coupon Preview said there’d be two inserts. I was wrong. I had seen conflicting reports online late last week and choose the optimistic one. Nope, just one Smart Source.

However, you should also check out the back page of the Parade Magazine from within the paper (Diane Sawyer’s on the cover). You’ll find a $4/1 Prevacid coupon and a rebate form good for a free Prevacid product worth up to $25.99.

My picks are rare coupons or those that I think are likely to turn into freebies. I receive a home delivered copy of the Minneapolis Star Tribune and it’s possible that the coupons in your Sunday paper look different than mine. Understand why by reading 4 reasons your paper may have different coupons than your neighbor’s.

For more own type-A-ness, the coupons are organized alphabetically within category.

If you’re new to couponing, read through my picks from previous weeks to learn from my oh-so delightful commentary in weeks gone by.

If you want more copies of these coupons ask friends, neighbors, co-workers, or even restaurants, coffee shops or libraries for their unused copies. You can also order the specific coupons you want from The Coupon Clippers.

Your turn: Which coupons do you think will turn into a freebie or rock bottom-priced item?

Everyday, Regular Priced Items

Buy the following products with a coupon from this weekend’s paper at their everyday price and you’ll get a great deal or maybe even a freebie.

Glade Relaxing Moments Plugin. Buy a Scented Oil refill, get the Relaxing Moments Plugin free.

Physicians Formula. As recently as last week I’ve seen some Physicians Formula products at CVS with peel-off rebate forms on the package that give you all your money back. If you could find one of these and use this week’s $1/1 you’d have a small moneymaker.

Prevacid. Use try me free rebate form from the Parade Magazine.

Purina. Buy one Purina ONE Dog Food, get one free. Maximum value $1.49.

Sunbelt Granola Bars. In the years I have watched grocery prices, Sunbelt Granola Bars are a product that is likely to have 1 coupon per year and almost never has an advertised sale. Clip this one and bring it with you if you’ll use it, because if you wait for a sale you’ll probably wait a long time.

Sale Priced Items

If these products go on sale before the coupon expires you should get a rock bottom price or maybe even a freebie. Look through the coupons on the “coupons doubled in value” list below as well, since they could be included here too.

Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Milk. When new products come to market, we usually see higher-value coupons than we’ll get down the road. I suspect that’s the case with this $1/1 Almond Milk coupon. They also advertise a money back guarantee if you don’t like it better than soy milk. Details at http://www.almondbreeze.com.

Dentyne. I love gum coupons and $1/2 should get us packs for a quarter or less, I bet, if we match it with the right sale.

EAS Product. Although a multi-pack of EAS drinks is pictured, you can use this $1/1 when the protein-type bars go on sale and get one free with this coupon.

Fisher. It seems like once per month we’re seeing these $1/1 any Fisher product greater than 4-ounce coupons. They picture a high-end product, but this includes peanuts and salad topper thingys (I forgot their name). The salad thingys will probably be on sale a few times as we head into spring and summer.

Pert Plus. Walgreens and CVS frequently run great promotions on Sure deodorant that makes it free when used with coupons like the $1/1 and $1.50/1 we got this week.

Rold Gold Pretzels. Pretzel coupons are fairly rare, even though $0.55/1 isn’t super high-value.

Schick Razor Refills. Disposable razor coupons and razor system coupons are a dime a dozen, but coupons on the refills are pretty rare.

Sure Deodorant. Walgreens and CVS frequently run great promotions on Sure deodorant that makes it free when used with coupons like the $1/1 and $1.50/1 we got this week.

Coupons Doubled in Value

If you can shop at a store where the value of your coupon is doubled and these products go on sale before the coupon expires, then you will likely get a freebie or something close to it.

Dannon Yogurt. My goodness, they are giving us yogurt coupons like they’re going out of style. Every few weeks their yogurt is on sale for $2 at my local store that doubles coupons and I pick it up free with these $1/1.

Pledge. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Pledge sell for $2, but it does go on sale for $2.50 with some frequency. Have these $1/1 coupons doubled and you’ll pick up your products for $0.50 each.

Red Gold Tomatoes. $1/3 cans of tomatoes is great, if we can match it with a sale. The last few months we’ve seen sale prices plus offers where you buy $XX in products and get $YY off your next order. Red Gold tomatoes were included in those. If we see another one before spring (diced tomatoes are more of a winter food) and you have a few of these coupons you might score a fabulous deal.

Zone Perfect Bar. When a $0.55/1 coupon is doubled for a product that routinely goes on sale for $1, we’ve got a freebie the making.

I pride myself on not buying boxed foods (crackers, prepackaged meals, rolls etc.). I try to make everything from scratch, but I often find that coupons are only for pre-packaged items. Do you have any tips/hints for getting deals on meats/veggies/fruit? I find that these are the most expensive items when I grocery shop, and since its all I buy, it adds up quickly. Thanks!

Carrie – it does seem like an astonishing number of Dannon & Yoplait coupons keep coming out, but it seems like there are fewer and fewer coupons for the big 32 oz size of those brands. And that’s what I always buy – just plain, non-fat yogurt in big containers! In your experience – or any one else’s – could I maybe use some of those great $1 off Dannon coupons on the big size? I’ve had lots of experience finding that really specific coupons are good on a more general basis (i.e. Corn Flakes with a Touch of Honey coupon worked fine for regular Corn Flakes. The Cheesecake in the middle Keebler cookie coupon worked fine for the peanut butter in the middle, etc.) I’d just love to know if anyone has tried this with Dannon or Yoplait. Thanks!

Hi – I am just wondering if you know what grocery stores in the northern suburbs (circle pines, Lino Lakes, etc) double your coupons? Thank you.

I know that Rainbow Foods in Shoreview off 96 and Lexington does. This Wednesday they will double 10 and Saturday they will double 5 – the coupon must be $1 or lower.
