If you’ve never shopped at Aldi bring a quarter (not 25 cents, but a quarter) for the refundable deposit on your cart and bring your own grocery bags. They take cash or debit card, but not credit card. Find an Aldi near you.
Remember that Aldi is owned by the same folks that own Trader Joe’s, so you can keep your eyes peeled for organic products that might be Trader Joe’s overruns.
Your turn: What does your family think of Aldi’s fish? How do you prepare it?
Produce
Pineapple. $1.49 each
Grapefruit. $0.29 each
Red and Green Grapes. $0.79/lb (sold in 2-pound clamshell for $1.58)
Bananas. $0.39/pound
Fish
Since it’s lent, fish is on sale almost every week and at rock bottom prices. Aldi has a ton of frozen fish varieties on sale. I won’t list them all, but a few highlights include:
Salmon. $3.99/lb
Flounder. $3.99/lb
Before you stock up on the fish, try it be sure you like it. Some people love it, but my family has gotten used to fresh fish from the meat counter and can’t get accustomed to the taste of any fish from a bag.
Grocery
Sea Net Tuna. $0.49 per can. Not the best price ever, but anything under $0.50/can is decent.

After watching a program about the fishing practices of the Chinese fishing industry, I decided to never purchase fish from China again. Unfortunately most of the fish that Aldi has is from China … or was the last time I looked. I am sending my hubbie to Aldi this week and I will get him to check before buying.
Thanks for the info; it is helpful to share consumer and health news such as this with one another.
I tried Aldi frozen fish once, didn’t care for it and haven’t purchased it since.
An on-going deal at Aldi’s: all milk is rBST free. Last week it was $1.99/gallon. Not sure if that was a special price, but their normal milk price is always much lower than anywhere else.
Did not know about the milk price. Might be worthwhile to go to check out the store. Thank you.
I don’t mind buying the fish from there….although I see your point. I’d prefer to buy wild caught salmon (I thought that is what their ad said this weekm, suprisingly) However, if you’re going to ban buying fish for ethical reasons, have you also banned buying chicken and beef that is not grass-fed? That is also considered inhumane. Just thought you should know if you’re preaching to the rest of us =) For me, it’s all a balance. It’s hard to afford to live with how expensive it all can be! What also about the over-used land to make corn and soybeans? It’s all relative…
Thanks for the deals!
I have noticed that the milk at Aldi is always a nice price, but it is usually much closer to expiration than the other stores.
If anyone is looking for sustainable meats, rabbit is topping the list. It might be hard to find commercially though.
