Aldi Shopping List 2/14 – 2/20/10

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

aldi

I plan to make a stop into Aldi this afternoon to pick up some grapes, bananas, oranges as well as the milk and eggs that are on sale. Last week was the first time I bought their sweet onions and yummmmmmmmmm! I could fry them and eat them with nearly every meal. At regular price a 2-pound bag is $1.99.

If you’ve never shopped at Aldi bring a quarter (not 25 cents, but a quarter) for the refundable deposit on your cart and bring your own grocery bags. They take cash or debit card, but not credit card. Find an Aldi near you

Remember that Aldi is owned by the same folks that own Trader Joe’s, so you can keep your eyes peeled for organic products that might be Trader Joe’s overruns.

Your turn: What did you pick up at Aldi this week?

Produce

Bananas. $0.39/lb (this is their everyday price)

Grapefruit. $0.29 each. If we assume 3-4 grapefruit per pound, then this is $0.87-$1.16/lb.

Grapes. $0.99/lb. Sold in 2-pound package for $1.98 each.

Navel Oranges. $0.36/lb. Sold in 4-pound bag for $1.39 each.

Dairy

Despite all the advertised dairy products, I don’t think many of them are a very good value. My picks are:

Eggs. $0.99/dozen for large eggs.

Milk. $1.99/gallon. This includes all types of milk (since my youngest drinks whole milk I know that some stores charge more for that kind.)

    Is the milk hormone free?

  2. Allie says:

I was there the other day and noticed a sticker on the glass door that opens to the milk stating that their farmers pledge not to use rBST. :-)

Where is the closest Aldi to Maple Grove?

  4. Valerie Y says:

I went to the Champlin one today. So clean, so nice, so…empty!! In and out fast. Usually I go to the one in Brooklyn Park, but I like the Champlin one better.

  5. Rebecca says:

Many of the Aldi’s stores have started taking credit cards, but I do not know how widespread it is. I would not go there expecting it at this point, but I have found that all of the locations that I frequent now accept credit cards.

  6. Lindsey M says:

Aldi does not take credit cards, but they take any kind of debit card. That is what is different than before. Before they would only take cash or certain types of debit cards. I could be wrong, but I would be prepared with an alternative payment method (other than a credit card.)

This is from Aldi’s FAQ on their website:

Do you accept Credit/Debit cards or the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card?

At this time we do not accept Credit cards. We do however accept Debit cards. We also accept electronic benefit transfer (EBT)/link cards.

I love shopping at Aldi. I shop at the one in Rosemount and it’s clean and new and nice. Sometimes the fruit is not the freshest and is in low supply but usually it’s plentiful and perky. I agree that the dairy prices are not much of a bargain but since you’re there it’s ok. They have these faux oreos, and my family thinks they’re better cuz they actually are double stuffed and yummy. Not to mention much cheaper than oreos, you can buy two of Aldi’s for the price of one Oreo pack. The other thing I like is they have a taste guarantee, if you don’t like the item you can get your money back. They could use a little help with their customer service, the cashiers are typically unfriendly and make you feel like you’re a burden to shop there, not all but some of them. I LOVE Aldi’s.

    Hi Carrie,
Are the ALDI’s deals still good from last week? I have become a big fan of it and really appreciate you putting this on here.

    Thank You

Liza, Aldi has sales every week, but usually their sale prices don’t differ too dramatically from their regular prices. Many of the items that they advertise are actually their regular prices, too. I just stopped by Aldi today and I think that their grapes are actually cheaper this week than last week. Milk was $1.89/gallon at my Aldi, too.

Thanks Laura! I really love this website and it has become a really positive way for me to save money! My friend Corinne got me hooked, and I think she created a frugal coupon monster:)

I do not live in the same area as y’all, but as far as I can tell, most Aldi prices are about the same across the country. The produce and dairy may vary slightly, but other than that, they are about the same. I shop there often and have compiled a list of items and prices that I normally buy. You are free to take a look at it and repost of it helps out.
