There are some decent deals this week at Walgreens. Before jumping into Walgreens’ Register Rewards program, learn how it works since there are lots of nuances. If you’re new to Pocket Your Dollars, learn to read this shopping list.
Thanks to Mercedes at Common Sense with Money for compiling a starting list of this week’s deals that I added to using the forums at A Full Cup.
Your turn: What other deals did you find this week at Walgreens? Did you find clearance-priced merchandise at great prices?
Week-Long Sales (non-Register Reward)
**Note: Walgreens is the one store where an advertised sale like “2 for $4” usually requires you to buy two products. The first one rings at full price and the second product will ring at a lesser price to bring the total to $4, using our example. If you ever question whether you need to buy two to receive a sale price, ask the cashier to scan one item for you. If it rings at full price, then you know you need to buy two products. If it rings at the sale price, then you don’t.

Carrie thank you for your lists. Sometimes I read the add and think, nothing I can use. Then I read your lists and go “ah” I need razors and I love the olay quench (needed one more to send my rebates too!).
I didn’t see this one above so I thought I’d share. There is a Wags coupon for 2/$3.00 on Sure deodorant. There are two coupons in this weeks paper: $1.50/1 and $1.00/1..use them together..final price .25 each.
Also, the Pert Plus for Men is included in the buy 2, get a $2 RR. There are $1.50 coupons in today’s SS, making 2 free!
I don’t see the Sure coupons. I got Smart Source and Red Plum inserts? Where did you find them? Thanks.
Never mind…found them…sorry. Thanks
I bought 2 early edition Sunday papers on Saturday. They had the Smart Source coupon booklet only. The paper I got today has a different front cover Smart Source and the Sure coupons are not in the ones from the early edition. Did anyone else experience this?
Beware of the bic razor deal. They don’t ring up as b1g1, they ring up as two for $6.99 so the first one rings up as $5.99 and the second one for $1.00. I tried this deal at two seperate stores. The first store said I had to buy 4 packages total and with one b1g1 coupon they would give me all four for $6.99 total. Not great, but not bad. That store was the Lexington or maybe Circle Pines store? It’s on the corner of Lexington and Lake Dr.
The second store I tried was the Blaine store and they just took $3.49 off of two. So I got two for $3.50. Looks like Walgreens was smart to the potential freebies =)
This is irritating to me because the store should view the manufacturer’s BOGO free coupon as “cash” from you and they will get the “cash” by submitting the coupon (+ a few cents extra for each coupon they submit for a handling fee). Sometimes the manufacturer’s BOGO free coupon is only up to a certain $ amount (i think the bic bogo free is up to 5.99) so the store should deduct $5.99 resulting in $1 for 2 packages
If the registers are ringing the product, $5.99 and $1.00 the cashier should still be giving you the $5.99 off because the coupon is a max to $5.99 and the net result is the same $1 for 2 packages. The consumer shouldn’t be penalized for the way Walgreens programs their registers. I used Bic 3 BOGO free coupons 2 weeks ago, had no problem. I use 2 in same transaction.
Angela,
I agree with you in the way Wags does their register programming. I expressed this to my EP Wags on an item recently that run up that way and didn’t get the correct coupon amount. Was told nothing they could do about it- sad customer service. I have decided the hassles at Wags are not worth it and stick to CVS. The gals there know me and know the coupons/ECB bucks system perfectly. They go out of their way to accomodate me and show me how to save even more. I am an avid CVS ECB shopper from now on.
what cvs(city) do you use?
Jessica – Did you show them the ad where it is advertised as buy one, get one free? I would email Walgreens corporate office and express yoru concern that they advertised a price that they were not honoring. They are reimbursed for the buy one, get one manufacturer coupon, so even though you wouldn’t pay for it, they would get their money back.
Yes, we looked through the ad together. There were two girls behind the cosmetics counter helping me and they just insisted it was two for 6.99 because that’s what the register was saying. I am getting more bold in questioning cashiers so I brought up that in the past if the store was sponsering a B1G1 and I also had a B1G1 coupon both items have been essentially free to me. She looked at me like I was nuts and said they can’t do that.
In hindsight I wish I would have asked for a manager or another opinion from another worker. These experiences are good though because it prepares me for the next time and makes me more determined to be less shy and not intimidated by a cashier who thinks I am trying to cheat some system.
Anyway thanks Carrie, I think I will email the corporate office about the difference in their advertised price.
Carrie,
I had the same problem in Red Wing today. They would not honor the BOGOF Bic razor deal. Where do I get an e-mail address for Walgreen Corporate?
I had no problem with the Bic deal. My receipt rang the razors as $6.99 for one and .00 for the other. The cashier took off $6.99 for my coupon.
If the deal does not work for the Bic items pictured in this week’s ad as B1G1 (selected varieties), then I think you can still use the B1G1 coupon along with the coupon in the Walgreens January Coupon book for $3 off each (will take off $6) So you still get 2 for free if the ones you pick are $5.99. Be sure to give them the B1G1 coupon first and then show them the Walgreens coupon second. Cashier should take off $5.99 for the free one and then the coupon will take off $6 from your receipt. Carrie mentioned this deal here: http://www.pocketyourdollars.com/2010/01/walgreens-coupon-match-ups-110-11610/
I was wrong – you have to give them the Walgreens coupon first and THEN the B1G1. Just went and did it the other way and it only took off $3 (it didn’t take it off a 2nd time because she had already keyed in the free item). Oops – so sad for me. But if you give them the Walgreens coupon first, it should take off $6 – then show them your B1G1 and they should key in $5.99.
Money Maker: Buy 6 benefiber stick packs..use 6 – $2/1 benefiber q’s and 1 – $2 Diabetes & you WAGs Q…spend $6 and get a $10RR…$4 money maker. :)
For the Olay Quench Body Lotion deal, when you buy the lotion, you get the In-Shower Body Lotion for free – but in your notes, Carrie, you say to use the In-Shower coupon as well. Is it deducted from your total since the product is still “rung up” through the cash register? I just don’t want to “waste” a coupon if it won’t apply!
I’m not Carrie, but to answer your question, yes, it will take $1 off your total.
Did for me!
I was not able to find the bic deal in the ad or at the store…
The bic razors were all marked $3 off (when you buy 2…I think??) And I can’t find it in the ad. Help! :)
The upper right hand corner of page 10 in my ad has a buy one, get one free Bic razor deal advertised.
THank you! Looked through my ad like 10 times…don’t know how I missed it! :)
Sue – which Wags did you shop at?
Judy,
It was Maplewood
The one on White Bear AVE?
The Carefree coupon is expired- do you know of any other carefree coupons?
Thanks
Kristen
Last week I tried the Oust BOGO Free with a BOGO Free coupon and they didn’t take the coupon. Would they return the items or adjust with the rect.? It is more expensive at Walgreens in general so wonder if they would adjust since others had no problem? Any advice.
Dawn,
They gave me a little trouble on the Oust BOGO also (think it was two weeks ago), but I always remind them that “they” are going to be sending in the coupon for full value for reimbursement..they will not include a note to the manufacturer say they should be reimbursed less.
They stopped arguing with me at this point. WAGS has more deals, but CVS has far better customer service.
I couldn’t agree more! I will once again pitch my CVS on Rice St. in Little Canada. It’s across the street from a Walgreens but miles apart in customer service. And it’s a brand new shiny store. If you’re in that part of the metro, I highly recommend checking it out.
OMG- that WAGS is EVIL. I was there with a friend on Thanksgiving, and the BA was really sweet at first, and then when she saw how little we paid OOP, she revealed her second head. If you find a WAGS with a sweet BA, go when THAT person is working. And SHARE the deals. If you share a freebie-making coupon or two with the cashiers, you have less problems due to simple human jealousy. Rapport goes a long way. But yes, that CVS is darling, and that WAGS is anything but. I put this on corporate. If they’d just publish the rules, we could follow them and the staff could follow them, too.
I’m not sure if your Walgreens has this, but the one in my area (zip code: 94538), has a Walgreens coupon for:
Sure Antiperspirant/Deoderant (2.6/2.7 oz.) – 2/$3 Limit 4
Could you possibly stack this with the Sure Deoderant coupons that came with this Sunday’s paper (below the Pert coupons)?
There was $1 off any Sure Anti-perspirant or Deoderant 2.0 oz. or larger and
$1.50 off any Sure for Men Anti-perspirant or Deoderant
Iona-
Thanks to your post I used my Sure coupons from Sunday’s paper and stacked them with Walgreens in-ad coupon and got two for $1 (they were out of the men’s Sure.)
I wonder why this wasn’t posted above with the rest of the deals.
on the sure deal: if both coupons are used from sunday’s smartsource can they also be used with the coupon in the flyer for 2/$3 as i thought you could only use the amount of coupons that you have for a product. in this case it would be three coupons for two products. am i confused on this?
Good question – I’ve wondered the same thing. Last night though I purchased 1 Reach toothbrush and 2 Sure deoderants. I had 2 in-ad coupons and 3 man. coupons. They took it no problem. So I’m thinking the in-ad does not apply toward the count (but RR would – I didn’t use or recieve any of them). Hopefully someone will correct me if I’m wrong.
Hi!
I just went to my local Walgreens today and was able to stack the 2 Sure coupons with the Walgreens coupon with no problem from the cashier :)
Dana,
From what I understand, the number of coupons you use works on your whole purchase. So, you could use three coupons on two items, you’d just have to have another item in your “cart” that doesn’t take a coupon, like a pencil or candy bar. Does that make sense?
Mindy
I had trouble with the BOGO for the razors tonight at the MG Walgreens (by Old Country Buffet). They wouldn’t take the coupon. I too would like to email corporate as well.
I sent an email and will wait patiently for a response.
Pretty picture, Carrie!
Thanks Helen *blushing* :)
Arg – Walgreen has been very frustrating for me. The one near me never has anything in stock & doesn’t sign sale items. So, I went to another…did not receive the RR for buying two Pert (did get sale price)….and they had a larger size Benefiber in with the sale items (identical box), so although I spent over $30 on what I though were 6 sale items (one wasn’t), I only received $5 RR. The cashier somehow lost rack of my coupons…and looking at my receipt I have no idea what he did. Sheesh, I came away down $7+. I’ll stick with CVS after this. Live & learn.
Teresa,
I’ve had problems with Walgreens in the past and yes it is very discouraging, but that only makes me more determined to go in with a firm list and to not be afraid to ask for price checks and whether or not the item I have is the sale item, etc.
This week was a great week. I did the Coffeemate deal and literally got the 2 creamers for $0.49! Also, the Pert deal worked well with the two coupons I got as well :)
Tell you what… why don’t you call ahead to your local Walgreens? I believe that this saves a lot of time that you have to spend driving around to find a Walgreens that has what you need. I do this and it takes a lot of the frustration I feel that stems out of having to drive around and waste gas.
Regarding the Bic deal….the lady at the cosmetic counter at the Anoka Wags said the promo for the bic razors was last week and she wouldn’t give me the deal. Now I am kicking myself I didn’t think to show her the ad….I am going back to get them!
Has anyone had luck with the Reach Toothbrush/floss deal above? The coupons didn’t seem to match up to what was in the store and the lady (at Anoka Wags) said my coupons didn’t match up.
I cant find the Bic razor sale in my ad? what ‘type’ of razor?
Does anyone have Clean & Clear coupons they will give or trade me? I’m visiting my son at his Army base this weekend and bringing a “care package” with me. This is one of the products he uses. I’m in St. Paul in the Midway area. Thanks!
I have no babies so would freely give my diaper, etc. coupons!
What Clean and Clear q’s are you looking for (amounts, insert dates, and publishers)? I would like to get in on the Pampers deal this week at Target, but I am missing three of the six q’s I need. Maybe we can workout a trade!
Contact me at: jnbbsmom @ hot mail dot com
Thx!
I was able to find Clean and Clear coupons on the All You website: http://print.coupons.com/Couponweb/Offers.aspx?pid=14803&nid=10&zid=rd17
I tried the BIC deal today too and was unsuccessful in getting the manager to understand. He said I would have to pay $3.XX for 2 packs, etc. I kindly argued and expressed my frustration with the situation and the inconsistencies between stores. He looked at me and walked away! Nice, huh? I WILL be contacting corporate as well.
I used a coupon at Walgreens for the 12-double roll pack of Quilted Northern for something like $5.69 + I had a coupon for $1.00 off from a few weeks ago. Total savings was approximately $6.00. I was happy.
If anyone does get a response from corporate office please share. I am wondering if they have a printed policy on coupons that would clarify so we could carry it with us as we go. I don’t understand why they are so funny about it as they get their money either way. I am going shopping today so will see what happens.
CVS is good with coupons and such.
I have seen some trouble with target. One of the cashiers said I couldn’t use a coupon for the baby shampoo trial size. I went back to another cashier and no problem so ???
I will let you know on my trip today.
I think you’ll find the problem is casheirs are not trained on how coupons work. For example last night the night manager told me (in a very polite smiling tone) that he hates the RR because they never were trained on how they worked.
This is a follow up to my email to Walgreens regarding the Bic Razor coupon that the store would not take. Jeff, the manager at the Walgreens in MG, must have received a message from the corporate office because he called me yesterday. I was at work and so I just called him back. He was very kind and said they should have taken it. He said they try to take as many coupons as they can because they do get reimbursed for them and they want to help us save money. The cashier should scan it, not make a judgement call, because the computers should be set up for it. He did say I could bring it in the next time I am in Walgreens and a manger will refund my money. I was very impressed at how quickly they responded. Very good customer service from Jeff.
That is great! Glad they treated you so well…to bad you had to go to corprate to get the great service you deserved in the first place. But glad you did!!! Awesome that he called you and was SO NICE!
My experiences at MG (off CR 30) Walgreens have always been very positive. I find their managers in particular to be patient in working with me when I have a question. I did not find nor see the B1G1 Reach Toothbrush displayed despite the ad. These ads come from the corporate headquarters and are designed some 3 months in advance (so I was told once) and then maybe the delivery trucks simply don’t get there with those items when we want them. It’s not about the employees it’s just how the system works or doesn’t work I guess. But, I was given a rain check for the toothbrushes and the Sure deo as there was only left there. I also bought the B1G1 Bic razors and after looking carefully at my receipt after the fact, I saw that the coupon was taken ($5.99), but not the free price. I went back to the manager who carefully looked at the ad (which by the way showed two different packages of razors then the ones I bought which had the sale sign on them) with me and determined that in fact, I should have received the price off of one (free). And he honored the price even though the ad and the product didn’t match. I appreciated that. I’ve always found them to be helpful. I’ve had a few glitches at the MG Walgreens off of Weaver Lake Road, but then again it’s just about the the people. I’m determined to remain polite and as long as I understand the ads and the coupons, perhaps I can help them. I find this to be true at Target and Cub. It’s just people. So be polite and ask for a manager to help if you’ve got an issue. We want to do this honorably so that all of us can enjoy these terrific benefits and savings. Thanks to everyone for the feedback and especially to you, Carrie, for starting this! It’s awesome. Much thanks!!
Thank you Brandy!
I love my Walgreens in Rogers!!!!!
Hello fellow couponer’s. :) Just a tip: If a coupon for a product that I don’t normally buy is $1.00 off or more, I still cut it out. Then when products are on a great sale, or B1G1, I use my coupons to try a new product. If I don’t have a need for the item(s) I donate them to our military or a shelter. Also, ink is expensive so when I print a coupon I make sure I’m going to use it, and usually only for .75 or more. I try to put similar coupons together and then paper clip them. Makes it way easier when trying to find it! I use a shoe box/photo holder with labeled dividers. And lastly, Cub takes coupons 3 MONTHS after the expiration date! Thanks for all the great info everyone and happy couponing.
I am looking for the 75 cent Huggies wipes coup. Can’t find it! Help!
I was not able to find the printable for wipes – only diapers. But my Walgreens had an “extra” coupon page at the front of the store by the January Coupon books. Perhaps these are “online” Walgreens coupons that my store has printed and offered people? Included is a $1 off Huggies Wipes 64 or 72 pack (limit 2) Hope you can find it.
This is a little late. But I did this yesterday. Buy 2 Hersheys candy bars at 2/1.59. Use BOGO from 1/10 SS and .49 coupon from Walgreens ad. Give BOGO first and it will take off .89 then give .49 coupon for another .61 Total price: .09 for 2 candy bars
I was turned down earlier in the week in Red Wing on the Bic deal and was in Rochester today, so I thought I woulod give it another try. Before even bringing the Bic razors to the counter, I asked the young man at the front counter if he knew how the Bic deal works. He said that I would not get them for free. Determined, I seeked out a very kind older gal at the cosmetic ounter. I asked her how they would ring up. She said bring them to her when I am ready to check out and she would see what she could do. Right away, I see they scaned $5.99 for the first, and $1 for the second. She started to bag my things as she was scanning them. I asked her kindly to wait on the bagging as depending on how some things ring up, I may not want them. She then wrote $6.99 on the MFG coupon, pushed some kind of overide button, and gave me two Bic razors for free. I did the coffee creamer thing, Pert Plus and a few other things. I paid $2.36 with $23.35 savings!!!! After she had me checked out, she said you realy have to have patient. There are some goods deals, but you cannot get in a hurry, you have to be patient. It helped that here was nobody waiting at the cosmetic counter. So in summary; scope out the checkout person that looks the kindest and most humblest (someone that may what to find a deal themselves), make sure that there is nobody in line, and treat him or her like they are King/Queen. I thought there was inconsistency in stores, to find out there is inconsistency inside each store.
Does anyone know if you can put the Olay Inshower Lotion on the Olay rebate form also, even though it was free? You can submit 2 so thought I would just check, not trying to be (too) greedy. Thanks
