Carrie’s Picks from 1/24/10 Coupon Inserts

coupons too

There are two inserts in this weekend’s paper – a Smart Source and a Red Plum. For them, I have highlighted my picks of which coupons will likely result in a freebie.  I also highlight unique coupons that we don’t often see.  These are based on the Minneapolis paper and other papers may have different coupons and different coupon amounts.  If you’re eager to learn about coupons, read through my picks from previous weeks.

If you want more copies of these coupons there are a couple options. Get more copies of the inserts from friends, neighbors, co-workers, leftovers at coffee shops or libraries or a whole paper for $1 at most Dollar Tree stores; find a Dollar Tree near you. You can also order the specific coupons you want from The Coupon Clippers.

By the way – the coupons are organized alphabetically within each category.

Your turn: Which coupons do you think will turn into a freebie or rock bottom-priced item?

Everyday, Regular Priced Items

Buy the following products with a coupon from this weekend’s paper at their everyday price and you’ll get a great deal or maybe even a freebie.

Purina Friskies Party Mix. Buy one, get one free. (Smart Source)

Scotch Lint Roller. This $1/1 coupon does not exclude travel size and I *think* Target carries a small version with their travel-sized items for right around $1. (Smart Source)

Sale Priced Items

If these products go on sale before the coupon expires you will get a rock bottom price or maybe even a freebie. Look through the coupons on the “coupons doubled in value” list below as well, since they could be included here too.

Kraft Cheese. Since shredded cheese freezes so well and block cheese can be kept for a long time in the fridge, find a way to get a few of these $1/2 cheese coupons and stock up when cheese is $1 or less for an 8-ounce block. (Smart Source)

Eucerin. It is not very often that you see a $1/1 Eucerin coupon. (Red Plum)

Lindor Truffles. As Valentine’s Day approaches I’d expect to see some great prices on chocolate and candy that will match well with this $1/1 coupon. (Smart Source)

Nabisco Crackers. This $1/2 coupon can be used for products that are also eligible for the $10 Kraft Keep the Jingle in Your Holiday rebate. Let’s hope we can see a way to get some free snacks yet this month. (Smart Source)

Pert Plus. Sometimes the drugstores will have a sale that results in free shampoo when combined with this $1/1 coupon. If not, my local store that doubles coupons often runs Pert Plus for $2, making it free after this coupon (Smart Source)

Planters Nuts. This $1/2 coupon can be used for products that are also eligible for the $10 Kraft Keep the Jingle in Your Holiday rebate. Let’s hope we can see a way to get some free snacks yet this month. (Smart Source)

Quaker. I’ve noticed that January is the month for Quaker sales and coupons so yay for this week’s two $1/2 coupons. (Red Plum)

Science Diet. Pet food stores like Pet Smart and Petco accept coupons, so you have a number of retailers that will accept this week’s $5/1 and $1/1 coupons. (Smart Source)

Stacy’s Pita Chips. In honor of all the football parties happening, chips are on sale everywhere this week (and next week too I imagine). This $1/1 coupon, plus sale prices, plus the $10 Pepsico rebate could make for some real bargains. (Smart Source)

Sure Deodorant. Sometimes the drugstores will have a sale that results in free deodorant when combined with this $1/1 coupon. If not, my local store that doubles coupons often runs Sure for $2, making it free after this coupon (Smart Source)

Coupons Doubled in Value

If you can shop at a store where the value of your coupon is doubled and these products go on sale before the coupon expires, then you will likely get a freebie or something close to it.

El Monterey Taquitos. Since this $1/1 coupon doesn’t expire until 4/30 I think it’s likely you’ll see them on sale for $2.00 at least once, making them free with this coupon. (Smart Source)

Ortega. I expect we’ll see taco supplies on sale this week and next as we approach the Super Bowl and Super Bowl snacks are on everyone’s mind. If nothing else, you can probably get free taco seasoning when this $075/2 coupon is doubled in value. (Smart Source)

Rotel. This is the highest value Rotel coupon I remember seeing in the inserts recently. (Smart Source)

Eat Out / Recreation

Chuck E Cheese. Various coupons.

  1. April says:

I am wondering if CVS does price matching? If I bring in the Walgreens ad, will they give me sale prices on items?

Thanks for all you do Carrie.

  2. Kaia says:

I received a Smartsource and Red Plum insert from the Star Trib, but did not get the Kraft, El Monterey, Ortega, or Rotel coupons. I double and triple-checked. What gives?

    • Laura says:

We get one Star Tribune and then go and buy 3 Pioneer Press papers and those coupons were only in the Star Tribune. Some weeks they are pretty similar, but some weeks it seems like there are several different coupons.

  3. Jean says:

Kaia- There is a kraft coupon on coupons.com

  4. Penny says:

No Red Plum..again..call Strib marketing dept in the morning. This is really getting old!

    • Heidi says:

What # for the Star Trib do you call? I got the RP but not the SS this week! When I’ve called before, I get transferred to many different departments, and am never quite sure who to talk to/what to request. All I need is the insert, not a whole duplicate paper!

    • Kelly says:

I didn’t get my Pioneer Press delivered this morning, so I went to pick up a Star Trib. at the gas station, but none of the ones I went through had a Red Plum in them. I went with the PP instead.

    • Christine says:

I got the STRIB on Sunday morning, and I didn’t have a red plum either. I also didn’t get a Target ad. Is there anyway to get the paper again, or get a replacement paper?

  5. Susie says:

Re: Scotch Lint Rollers…I think I got them for free at Cub using the same $1/1 coupon the last go around. Good luck! :)

  6. Brandy says:

The above link for the $10 Pepsico rebate is not to the correct thing (or you described it incorrectly). It is a link to a $15 rebate sponsored by Coors light beer. Is this the link you meant to post?

  7. Jessica W says:

    Brandy,

That is the correct link. The rebate is sponsered by Coors Lite, however you don’t have to buy the beer to redeem the rebate (unless you are in WI). The link takes you to 4 different pages, two for MN and two for WI. Look through them and figure out which one is the right one for you. Hope that helps!

  8. Kirsten says:

    Carrie,
Where in the MN area does the double coupon thing?

    • JoAnna says:

Rainbow has double coupons on Wednesdays for $1 and under coups when you spend $25. This week they will take 10 coups (instead of the normal 5).

  9. Debbie says:

I got the SmartSource coupon booklet in the Saturday paper for the first time. That was a nice surprise because the SmartSource and Red Plum were in Sunday’s paper as well. I buy the paper at the gas station or Walgreens. We’ll have to see if it happens next Saturday.

  10. Debbie says:

That was in the Star trib.

  11. Theresa K. says:

I finally made it to Dollar Tree (Twin Cities) at 9:20am this morning to pick up extra Sunday StarTrib papers at $1. I was happy to find Early Sunday(Saturday) papers (.50) as well. I was under the gun because the StarTrib guy pulled up the same time as I did to take the leftovers back to the plant. So I grabbed what I could and paid $6.50 for 10 SmartSource and only 3 RedPlum. I’ll have to go a bit earlier next Monday. I’m thinking I should just sort through things in my car, take what I want and give him the leftover papers! :) Tonight, I’ll be cutting coupons to my favorite show, House, MD! I missed last week’s Rainbow Wednesday due to my kitty’s death (too sad to shop, if you can imagine), so I’m gearing up for a big week with 10 coupons!
