Carrie’s Picks from 1/10/10 Coupon Inserts

coupons too

There are two nice, big, fat inserts in this weekend’s paper – a Smart Source and a Red Plum.

I have highlighted my picks of which coupons will likely result in a freebie.  I also highlight unique coupons that we don’t often see.  These are based on the Minneapolis paper and other papers may have different coupons and different coupon amounts.  If you’re eager to learn about coupons, read through my picks from previous weeks.

If you want more copies of these coupons there are a couple options. Get more copies of the inserts from friends, neighbors, co-workers, leftovers at coffee shops or libraries or a whole paper for $1 at most Dollar Tree stores; find a Dollar Tree near you. You can also order the specific coupons you want from The Coupon Clippers.

Your turn: Which coupons do you think will turn into a freebie or rock bottom-priced item?

Everyday, Regular Priced Items

Buy the following products with a coupon from this weekend’s paper at their everyday price and you’ll get a great deal or maybe even a freebie.

Cream of Wheat. Chocolate Cream of Wheat is one of my favorites (thanks Donna and Cory for introducing me to it!), but it is rarely on sale and rarely has a coupon. Can you imagine my excitement at this $0.75/1 coupon then? (Smart Source)

Kotex Pads. Small packages of Kotex panitliners are priced around $1 at most stores. Get two free, or close to it, with this week’s $2/2 coupon. (Smart Source)

Laughing Cow and Mini Babybel Cheese. I love January, if only for the healthy-living and salad-related coupons. These Laughing Cow and Mini Babybel coupons are no exception. (Smart Source)

Mighty Dog Dog Food. Get one can free. If you don’t have a dog, pick up this freebie anyway and donate it to a food shelf. Families in need also need to feed their pets. (Red Plum)

Riceworks Brown Rice Crisps. These are REALLY good, but come in a small bag that is easily eaten in one sitting (ask me how I know). They are expensive, but if you require a gluten-free diet they are a good choice. I have found them at Walmart. (Red Plum)

Spam. If you like Spam, then this buy one, get one free coupon is a great deal, right? (Smart Source)

Tide Stain Release. Do any stores sell a trial sized package of this product? This $1/1 coupon does not exclude trial sizes and could result in a freebie. (Red Plum)

Woolite. Really? $2.50 off one bottle? I have no idea how much a 50-ounce bottle costs, but $2.50 off certainly has to help. (Smart Source)

Sale Priced Items

If these products go on sale before the coupon expires you will get a rock bottom price or maybe even a freebie. Look through the coupons on the “coupons doubled in value” list below as well, since they could be included here too.

Bic Razors. I hope to see a store-sponsored buy one, get one free sale that we can use alongside this buy one, get one free coupon to walk away with two free packages of razors. (Smart Source)

Celestial Seasonings Tea. Last year the drugstores ran tea promotions that turned into free product alongside a similar $1/1 coupon. (Smart Source)

Gatorade G2. It isn’t often that you’ll find a Gatorade coupon like this week’s $0.50/1 (Red Plum)

Grande Tortilla and Krunchers Potato Chips. Pre-Super Bowl sales will include every kind of snack food imaginable to man. Hopefully that will include these chips since $1/1 bag coupons are very rare. (Smart Source)

Hershey’s Chocolate Bar. Buy one, get one free. Do you think we’ll see a store run a buy one, get one free promotion that turns into two free candy bars? Let’s hope so. (Smart Source)

Ken’s Dressing. I’d expect to see this go on sale for $2 per bottle in the near future, making it free with this $2/1 coupon. (Smart Source)

M&Ms. With Valentine’s coming up I suspect we’ll see some great sales on candy, as if we need or want any more candy. (Red Plum)

Neutrogena. Use two of these high-value $2/1 coupons when a drugstore runs a buy one, get one free or 50% off sale and you’ll get a rock bottom price on cosmetics. (Smart Source)

Pampers. Wowza! A $7/2 coupon good when you purchase both a big box of diapers and large package of wipes. If Target runs a gift card promotion and we can find some manufacturer-issued coupons we’ll get a nice price on Pampers. (Smart Source)

Seventh Generation. If we keep our eyes open I bet we’ll get a low-cost natural cleaning, baby or household product with this $1/1 Seventh Generation coupon. (Red Plum)

Ziploc Containers. I bought some of these last week using a similar $1.50/2 coupon. I matched it with a price cut at Target and this $5 SC Johnson rebate to pay, in essence, $0.50 per package. (Smart Source)

Coupons Doubled in Value

If you can shop at a store where the value of your coupon is doubled and these products go on sale before the coupon expires, then you will likely get a freebie or something close to it.

Campbell ’s Soup at Hand. In years past I’ve seen these on sale for $1 each, which would make two cans free after this $1/2 coupon is doubled in value. (Smart Source)

DanActive and Danimals Yogurt. More $1/1 yogurt coupons that will turn into free yogurt with the right sale. (Smart Source)

Fisher Nuts. We all must have a bazillion of these coupons and that’s great because they don’t expire for months and will, in time, turn into free peanuts. At my local store, Rainbow, I’ll get two jars free this week. (Smart Source)

Jell-O Pudding Snacks. I can’t think of a time recently when I’ve seen a $1/1 Jell-O snack pack coupon. If your kids (or you) love these, then stock up on coupons because I’d bet we’ll get them free in the weeks ahead. (Smart Source)

Ken’s Dressing. I’d expect to see this go on sale for $2 per bottle in the near future, making it free when this $1/1 coupon is doubled in value. (Smart Source)

Quaker Rice Cakes. With the right sale, this $0.75/1 will make for nearly free rice cakes. (Red Plum)

Ritz Crackerfuls. With enough patience, crackers almost reach a rock bottom price of $2 per box. Have this $1/1 coupon doubled in value when they’re on sale and you’ll get a free box. (Smart Source)

Smart Balance. I’m hopeful to pick up both Smart Balance sour cream and cooking spray free with these $1/1 coupons. (Red Plum)

Eat Out / Recreation

Green Mill. Various coupons. (Smart Source)

IHOP. All sorts of buy one, get one free coupons that expire 2/14/10. (Red Plum)

I was sooo excited when I looked at your email and saw that there was a Riceworks coupon! I had tried these chips at a vending machine when my boyfriend and I were staying at a hotel in Duluth. I highly reccomend them everyone! And now I know I can find them @ Walmart (they are so hard to find!). Thanks Carrie!

  2. Sara says:

So if a store is running a buy one get one free sale and I have a coupon for a buy one get one free, does that mean both are free? Like with the Hershey’s chocolate bars?

  3. Jessica W says:

Sara -yep! Because the store is running the sale and you have a manufacturer issued coupon, you get both free!

  4. erica f edwards says:

oh no my paper did not get delivered this morning. I called and they will credit my account, but its good my mother in law keeps her coupons for me:) I like to have double so I will probably run out and grab one.

  5. Joe says:

I have noticed the Mpls Tribune is once again putting inserts in the Sat early paper. Thanks Tribune 50 cents saves more money than $1.75 for Sunday to get Q’s

  6. JeniB says:

My Star Tribs smartsource insert had $1.50 off Woolite instead of $2.50. Bummer!

  7. Barb Miller says:

Ken’s dressing coupon is already worth it! Rainbow on Sale for 2.25 and Cub 1.99!

  8. Jen says:

    Joe,

Where did you buy your Early edition that had coupons? I’ve been having a heck of a time finding locations that do this.

    Thanks!

  9. Heather says:

We are gluten-free but even so they are so good, and no MSG. Riceworks are 2/$3.00 at my local Rite Aid this week. They were on sale last week also but ran out at my store so I have a raincheck for later.

  10. Hilary says:

pretty good week with the salad dressing and hershey bar, plus the dole fruit

  11. Penny says:

For the “very first time” both inserts were in the early edition trib..in White Bear Lake this weekend! Woo hoo!!

  12. Jennifer M. says:

I have been buying my Saturday early editions at Cub (Elk River & Monticello) or SA (various locations) and have never had a problem with the coupons not being in them.

  13. Erin says:

I’m jealous! I have yet to find an early edition with all coupon inserts in the SW metro.

  14. Penny says:

    Kari,

I found them at Cub and the WAGS on 96/Centerwille rd. I purchased 4 at wags and use them as my additional times so I could use RR’s.

I’m calling the strib’s marketing dept this week…my scenario for them: Would you be ok if I purchased a box of item X – 12/box for $1 and you purhcased the same item, but they only gave you 11/box? This just isn’t rocket science.

It’s great to know there’s another couponer in WBL!

  15. Karen says:

I happen to see that Office Max carries the Marcal brand paper products. I have coupons but can’t seem to find the single packs anywhere for the freebie. My little Office Max didn’t have singles but maybe yours will?
