There are five inserts in today’s paper, one General Mills, two Red Plums and two Smart Sources. There is also a Leap Frog coupon in the Parade magazine within the paper.
With multiple inserts by the same publisher I will differentiate them by both the publisher’s name and an insert number in future weeks. This is how I’ll label them:
Smart Source #1 – Sears Optical ad on the cover
Smart Source #2 – Direct TV ad on the cover
Red Plum #1 – JC Penney Optical ad on the cover
Red Plum #2– Loreal ad on the cover
Since there are so many coupons in this weekend’s paper these picks only represent coupons that are likely to turn into freebies (versus cheapies) or are very rare/unique coupons. These are based on the Minneapolis paper and other papers may have different coupons and different coupon amounts. You can see all my previous picks here.
If you want more copies of these coupons there are a couple options. Get more copies of the inserts from friends, neighbors, co-workers, leftovers at coffee shops or libraries or a whole paper for $1 at most Dollar Tree stores (locations here). You can also order the specific coupons you want from The Coupon Clippers.
Your turn: Which other coupons are you excited about, even if they won’t create a freebie?
Everyday, Regular Priced Items
Buy the following products with a coupon from this weekend’s paper at their everyday price and you’ll get a great deal or maybe even a freebie.
Band-Aid. Travel-sized boxes and small packs of character band-aids are under a dollar Target, or free after this $1/1 coupon. The coupon does not exclude trial sizes. (Red Plum #1)
Johnson’s Baby Product. A single bar of Johnson’s Buddies Soap is under $1 at most stores. They make a great filler for baby shower gift basket. (Red Plum #1)
Kotex Pads. The smallest package of Kotex Lightday pads are priced right around $1, making them free after this $1/1 Target-issued coupon. (Smart Source #2)
Marcal. Marcal products are sold at select locations nationwide, including Kmart and Roundy’s stores (Rainbow included). If you can find a single roll of paper towel, bath tissue or facial tissue it’d be free.
Reach Dental Floss. A small package is just under $1 at Target and Walmart, making it free after this $1/1 coupon. (Red Plum #1)
Rolaids. I used the last $4/2 coupon we got to pick up two 3-packs of Rolaids at Target where they’re priced around $1.50 (or $3 for 2), making them free after this coupon. (Red Plum #1)
Sale Priced Items
If these products go on sale before the coupon expires you will get a rock bottom price or maybe even a freebie. Look through the coupons on the “coupons doubled in value” list below as well, since they could be included here too.
Air Wick. Drugstores often have great sales on Air Wick products that matched with a buy a refill, get the starter kit free coupon like this week’s will get you both free. (Smart Source #2)
Electrasol. Last year Electrasol ran a similar $2.50/1 coupon and Walgreens timed a promotion so that we all got free dishwasher detergent. (Smart Source #2)
Listerine. With the right sale at a drugstore, these $1/1 coupons will likely turn into freebies. (Red Plum #1)
Naked Juice. The one exception I’m making to exclusively listing freebies is this $10 rebate when you buy 10 Naked Juice drinks. This is not likely to make them free, but will certainly make them cheap. (Red Plum #1)
Soy Joy Bars . If you’ve acquired the taste to enjoy Soy Joy bars, CVS often runs promotions where I’ve picked up 10 or 15 of them free when I combine coupons like the ones in this week’s paper with their in-store promotion. (Smart Source #1)
Stayfree. I hope to see a drugstore promotion that will result in two free packages of Stayfree pads when combined with this buy one, get one free coupon. (Red Plum #1)
Coupons Doubled in Value
If you can shop at a store where the value of your coupon is doubled and these products go on sale before the coupon expires, then you will likely get a freebie or something close to it.
Barilla Plus Pasta. Matched with a sale this $1/2 coupon will turn into two free boxes of pasta. (Smart Source #1)
Campbell ’s V8 Soup. This soup rarely goes on sale, but if it does I suspect it’d be for $2, making it free after this $1/1 coupon is doubled in value. (Smart Source #2)
Lysol Disinfectant Spray. When this is on sale for $1, we’ll get it free when this $1/1 coupon is doubled. (Smart Source #2)
Marcal. Marcal napkins often go on sale for $2 and become free when $1/1 coupons like you see in this week’s Smart Source #1 insert.
Maruchan Yakisoba Flavor. Although I don’t know for sure, I can’t imagine that this costs more than $1, therefore it’d be free after this $0.50/1 coupon is doubled in value. (Smart Source #1)
McCormick Spice. When McCormick products go on sale, black pepper isn’t that expensive and will likely be free when this $0.75/1 coupon is doubled in value. (Red Plum #2)
Pop Secret. Occasionally these go on sale for $1 per box. If that happens before this $1/2 coupon expires, then we can pick up two boxes free when this coupon is doubled in value. (Red Plum #2)
Pedigree Good Bites Dog Treats. I’ve started to notice that dog treats are one of those things you shouldn’t really have to pay for, assuming you can flex on the brand you use. It’s when coupons like this $1/1 are doubled in value and matched with a sale that dog treats become free. (Red Plum #2)
Yo Plus Yogurt. Yet another $1/1 coupon that will get us free yogurt when it’s doubled. (General Mills)
Eat Out / Recreation
Buca. $10 off any $20 purchase. (Red Plum #1)
Chuck E Cheese. Various coupons. (Smart Source #1)

Great coupons this week!
Stayfree will be free this week with the Walgreens sale.
hey coupon friends! regarding the soyjoy bars, CVS is running a special….buy a box for $6 get $6 extra care bucks, limit of 3. great deal!
I was bold this weekend and bought 5 copies of the early Sunday paper while traveling this weekend. I checked to make sure that all 5 inserts were in the paper and they were! Got my sixth copy delivered to my door today. Now the dilemma is whether to follow my usual practice of cutting every single coupon and filing, or switch to a new method. Six copies of each coupon sure changes things! Did others of you who do the multiple coupon thing also switch methods when you started?
Theresa – I was just thinking the same thing since I also purchased multiple papers. To clip or not to clip! I may try Carrie’s method for a while and see how it goes – it’s certainly worked well for her.
All this advice about checking coffeehouses and trash bins is based on the assumption that any newspaper in your area HAS the coupons. Where I live, the local paper has a tiny Red Plum and tiny Smartsource, while the nearest big-city paper is missing Red Plum entirely. No amount of dumpster diving will ever find a complete Red Plum in this situation.
I switched to a new method. I clip one set of the cpns and file the extras like Smart Source and red plum. That way I have the orginals filed and if I want multiples I refrence back to where Carrie says to go.
I love that I don’t have to clip…I’ve saved a ton of time and energy. I’ve also found that if I can’t fina a coupon I post and someone has the answer. Love it!
I too purchased multiple papers, I bought 2 Pioneer Press and 2 Star Tribune. I now have 7 different inserts. I suppose I could look through each and compare to see if any have the same coupons. AAAHHHH! I’m feeling very overwhelmed.
I had my brother-in-law purchase 2 early edition papers for me since I was out of state where they don’t sell them and when I picked them up there were only 3 inserts in each paper. I don’t know what happened. Maybe it was different because it was the state-wide edition? (I live in Moorhead, MN)
Erin – I think it’s worth a call to the Star Tribune to understand whether the state-wide edition has fewer coupons than the metro. If it was supposed to have all of them, then you can voice your concern.
For what it’s worth, I purchased 5 copies of the early edition this past Saturday in tiny Tracy,MN (3 hours southwest of the Cities). Each copy had all five inserts. I think a good rule of thumb is to check first because, as we’ve all shared, it’s impossible to predict which papers have the coupons…even when they’re supposed to be there! Of course, a call to the paper is always a good idea. In these days of dying newspapers, I would hope you (as a valued reader) would get a good response. Let us know!
Can you tel me where you get an early edition of te Sunday paper and how much you pay for it? Thank you
Angela,
They combined their early Sunday edition and the Saturday paper into one and sell it on Saturday for $0.75 at Gas Stations, Grocery Stores, etc. I can get it 3 hours North of MPLS but we were in SD over the weekend and they only sell the Sunday Star Tribune (which is $2 plus SD charges tax on it which I don’t think is right).
So kinda confused, I didn’t think u could use more than 1 coupon on 1 item… I watch u on TCL and I get the rebated stuff but can u go to say cub and use 2 of the same coupons or 2 different coupons for the same item, like 1 in store ad and 1 sunday paper coupon? I’m new to using coupons. What is the fine print wording I should be looking for? And also I saw somewhere on your website that u can use exp’d coupons at cub is that just manufacturers or is that there in store ad coupons? love this website btw
Jen – You should look on the coupons for whether it is a “Store Coupon” (often says “Cub Coupon” or “Target Coupon”, etc.) or “Manufacturer Coupon.” You can use one each on the very same item abd yes, Cub does accept expired coupons.
Thank you so much, I will be looking for the Saturday paper from now on!
Just make sure to confirm it contains the coupon inserts before buying!
Thanks, awesome! I go on your website just about everyday!
carrie,
how about you have a manufactured coupon and the store refuses to honor it because of fraud that is going on… so i went else where… i have been checking out
your web site pretty cool.. thanks
