As always, Aldi has some great prices on produce this week. These prices are based on the Minneapolis/St. Paul-area sales flyer.
If you’ve never shopped at Aldi bring a quarter (not 25 cents, but a quarter) for the refundable deposit on your cart and your own bags. They take cash or debit card, but not credit card. Find an Aldi near you.
Navel oranges. $0.38/lb (sold in 4-lb bag for $1.39). My kids love oranges for snacks, we squeeze them for juice in the morning, add them into smoothies, and I puree them before they spoil and freeze them to use down the road in muffins (in baking recipes that call for applesauce I often substitute any number of fruit purees I have in my freezer).
Apples. $0.56/lb (sold in 3-lb bag for $1.69). I’ve been asked for my applesauce recipe. It isn’t much of a recipe, but I core the apples and cut them into quarters or eighths (I leave the peel on), put them in a stock pot and add about an inch worth of water, add a few drops of lemon juice, boil for 20-30 minutes. Then I puree the apples and water in the blender. I sometimes add a little bit of honey to sweeten it up and some cinnamon. That’s it.
Bananas. $0.39/lb
Pineapple. $1.49/lb
The only other thing that catches my eye in this week’s ad is the 16” make and take pizza for $5.99. They only come in cheese and pepperoni, but you can add more stuff to it at home.
One side note – last week I saw organic soy milk at the Aldi on Franklin in Minneapolis. Since they are owned by the same folks that own Trader Joe’s you should always keep your eyes out for organic items.
Your turn: How does Aldi fit into your shopping routine? (For me, I have switched to buy almost all my produce there and a few other staples that don’t seem to go on sale much and I get everything else I need at the grocery store)

Carrie-
When you puree the oranges – do you just peel them then puree them membranes and all?
I need to start doing this.
BTW- love your new professional photo there!
Thanks for your suggestions. We stopped at Aldi’s on the way home from church and bought the items you posted plus more. I loved reading your post when I could say — I bought that, I bought that … The oranges are so juicy. I bought two bags.

I’ve been meaning to try out Aldis. Hmmm…. maybe this week will be the week. Thanks for posting this!
In Madison apples are $1.49 for 3 lb, pineapple $1.29. They were also clearaning out bread that expires at the end of the month. Whole wheat white break is 15 cents! I bought 8 and put them in the freezer. (East Side!)
I’m an advid Aldi shopper after I do my cherry picking at the other stores and I have to say Aldi’s brownie mix and their canned clam chowder is the best I have ever eaten out of any brand. I sometimes don’t think they are always the cheapest on ‘some’ things but those two items are delicious. Also, their brand ‘sliced’ swiss cheese, that comes in slices. To me, it’s not like swiss cheese, but it is the PERFECT cheese to melt over top of mexican food. I make fajitas alot and melt those slices over top of it and my family LOVES it. It’s not a very swiss taste, but such a creamy taste. I highly recomend those three items to everyone to try if you never try anything else. :)
Erin, There are Aldi rules, and if you don’t know them ahead of time, it can throw you off. They are:
.25 for a cart; Bring your own bags; Cash..they do take some debit cards and have an ATM for debit, I believe….I have always only done cash. Those are the main rules.
I believe they take credit cards now too. I always just swipe my visa and it works.
We are absolute Aldi fans. Shop there for almost all our produce. We use turkey burger and their ground turkey is the best price (and delicious). I’ve found their prices are usually the best (except for holiday sales) on margarine, yogurt, peanut butter, etc. Love their sliced cheeses. Soups and things like chili beans. If we can’t get to a bakery outlet, I always buy Aldi’s wheat bread. I agreee about the brownie mix (and the pumpkin bread mix). Will be making our shopping run there today.
I always get jumbo shrimp there, it’s around $3.99 for the 23-30 count bag, at other stores it’s $7.99 to $9.99. They do have good deals on produce. I’ll be stopping there this week!
I hit Aldi before your list came out and bought some of those oranges! They were GREAT–and I need to seriously go back and get more. Banana sale was good too… I just got my dehydrator and I dehydrated almost that whole bag of yummy oranges, and am blowing through them! The grated orange peel went into fresh bread today, and some dehydrated slices grace my herbal tea in the evenings. Very, very nice. I used to shop Aldi more than I do, but I think it is the best deal around for non-couponed items (like produce).
Aldi has good ‘Fit and Trim’ string cheese and there Mama Cositas Pizza (or something like that) are always 1.99 and they are better than Jacks Pizza. Also if your kids drink Koolaid or ice tea they are the cheapest I’ve seen for these. Of course it’s still loaded in sugar. Also my son loves yogurt tubes or “Gogurt”. The Aldi brand taste the same is usually about 1.99 or less for a pack.
I love Aldi. Currently it’s my first stop for shopping then I go everywhere else. I’m really new to couponing, so I have a feeling once I get the hang of it, it may not be my first stop for everything, but still cheapest for some things.
Pineapple is $1.49 *EACH! =)
The Ranch dressing is really good, the only kind my kids will eat and only $1.19 and the fit & active poppyseed dressing is really good and I think it was also $1.19
Also the cheddar brats (similar to cheddarwurst) are $1.99 and really good.
Cereals are a lot cheaper!
I recently ‘converted’ to Aldis in the last year. I love their prices on milk and other dairy products like various forms of cheese. I try to get as many things as I can there, knowing which prices are cheaper than the normal prices elsewhere … especially if I need an item they carry.
