Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 12/27 – 1/2/10

roundys

These are the best deals I see this week at Rainbow Foods (a Roundy’s store). It assumes you shop on Wednesday when they will double the face value of five coupons that are worth $1 or less. If you’d like more details on the rules around doubling, check out this post.

http://www.campbellskitchen.com has $1/4 campbell’s great for cooking soups- doesn’t say “excludes tomato or chicken noodle” so will work for the tomato/chx noodle soup at 50 cents a can this week.

  2. Jen

Anyone have a ruling on whether we can use the $5 coupon in the ad with the plates and napkin coupons?

  3. Abby

Here is another place to get the great cheese coupon! http://print.coupons.com/couponweb/Offers.aspx?pid=15085&zid=nv39&nid=20

  4. Jessica

Does anyone know if the YoPlait Fiber One coupon is gone? I’ve had no luck finding it in the coupons that the link brings me to. (Unfortunately the week I started coupon clipping and keeping the inserts was 11/29 so I missed the coupon from 11/8) Any help would be much appreciated, I’d really like this coupon!!! =)

  5. Angela P

Carrie-that Genreral Mills cereal coupon is only for Banana Nut. Do you have a link to any other kinds?

  6. Angela P

Jessica- I can’t find it either. Please let me know if you do.

  7. Angela P

Carrie- Where is the Smart Balance spread? Can’t find it where you say it is suppose to be. Am I missing it?

  8. Lisa

Not noticing that it said manufacturers coupon I used the $5 coupon last week as week as well as 3 $1/1 northern coupons and 1 $1/1 & .55/1 napkin plates coupons without any issues. Had I thought about it I probably wouldn’t have tried, I’ll blame it on not paying attention with the kids along for the ride. The northern coupons were from the target website – I have no issues using them, knock on wood now that I’ve said that – and the napkin/plates I think one was on target the other out of a valpak or something odd like that. Definately could have been a fluke that it worked so be careful with it!

  9. Celeste

I understand making a mistake, but you should definitely NOT “try” using the $5 coupon and the other manufacturer coupons. That’s beyond the mistake zone and into the using coupons unethically and unlawfully zone. The language on the coupon says something to the extent of cannot be combined with other manufacturer coupons. You need to pick either your smaller individual coupons (which you can double) or the $5 coupon.

  10. Abby

Jessica-Go to Carries 11/29-12/5 Rainbow grocery list. The links work for printing yogurt coupons. $1/1 for the Yo-Plus yogurt and $0.75/1 for the Fiber One yogurt.

Everyone-You can get the great cheese coupon at Kraftfoods.com under the coupon tab

  11. Jessica

*Abby -Thanks so much for the help with the yogurt AND that kraft coupon!!! Have a wonderful day!

  12. Justin

California Pizza Kitchen for One pizzas are on sale for $1.99 with a limit of 5. There is a $1 off “Any one California Pizza Kitchen Crispy Thin Crust Pizza” coupon available here:
    http://print.coupons.com/couponweb/offers.aspx?pid=13903&nid=10&zid=xh20
I looked at the Rainbow ad, and there is “Crispy Thin Crust” on the CPK for One box.
Effectively, this would make the item FREE after double coupon tomorrow.

  13. Lisa

Celeste – Agreed that it should be tried on purpose to use both man q’s. I should have stated that more clearly because you are correct in all aspects and we all seem to be pretty ethical here. My disclaimer was intended more so to those who may try it and it does not work that would complain or have issues when it shouldn’t in the first place. Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow. :)

  14. Lisa

My goodness I can’t post to save my life today. Should NOT be tried on purpose.

  15. anita

Have fun shopping life’s to crazy here to worry about getting the best prices. This is why I shop this way year round for when those little emergencies pop up and the last thing on your mind is what’s on sale and do I have a coupon. Believe me I am HARD CORE when it comes to coupons/sales but sometimes life gets in the way. This is when stockpiling really is a God send.

  16. Toni P.

Angela—Go to http://www.smartbalance.com. On the left-hand column, there should be a button that says “Print Coupons”. Hope this helps.

  17. Shannon

I am new to this site and it is great! Does anyone know if Rainbow price matches with Cub? If they do, is it best to bring the ad to customer service or show it to the cashier? Thanks so much!

  18. Jennifer

The coupon from the 11/22 SS on Florida’s Natural is $1.00/1, not a buy one, get one free.

  19. Cara

Thanks for the help with the Cheese & Soup coupons Abbey & Joe!!!

  20. Tanya

Shannon – as far as I know Rainbow does not price match with Cub. Target will, if that helps you.

  21. Tami W

Hi, Shannon! I know the Apple Valley rainbow does not price match with other stores. I spoke to someone there on the phone with that question, and they said, only the turkey at thanksgiving. The Apple Valley Targets both are very nice about price matching though! I price match a lot at both of them.

  22. Lanie

I’m trying to get prepared for tomorrow’s double coupon day and was wondering if anyone know how much the Yoplait Yo-Plus Yogurt is? The ad says BOGOF and I’m also wondering if both products will go toward the $25 minimum purchase total to use double coupons? Thanks guys :)

  23. Mary

Carrie- Can one use two Yo-plus coupons on the BOGOF?

  24. jen

Mary- Yes you can use two coupons on the buy one get one yo plus. hope that helps you.

  25. Dawn

Does anyone know where I can get additional cracker coupons. I used mine and would like more for this week. Nabisco Ritz Crackers, Wheat Thins, Triscuits or Toasted Chips $2.49

  26. Lisa

This is a funny question but other than Carrie’s smoothie idea – what else can you do with avacados? I’ve always wanted to try them but don’t really know what to do with them.

  27. BILL

When is the best time to shop at Rainbow? I like to go on Wednesday of course, but the specials are always sold out. I can only go in the morning or evening. I plan my trip around the specials and when I get there, half of the stuff is sold out! I shop at the Blaine (Northtown) location.

  28. erica f edwards

Avocado idea…I blend together avocado and mayo and a little italian seasons or mustard for a spread on my sandwiches. Also Guacamole is a great one too.

  29. Shelly

Avocados, as Erica said, are yummy in homemade guacamole. It can be as simple as purchasing your favorite salsa and mashing a ripe avocado to add in. Or make your guacamole homemade from a million different recipes available online. It’s also wonderful sliced up or diced in taco salads, on fish tacos, on sandwiches, salads. Hope that helps, Lisa. The possiblities are pretty endless!

  30. Tricia

At first I had trouble printing the yogurt $1/8 coupon link above (would say “please wait”). Then I went to yoplait and was able to print off a $1/8 coupon (http://yoplait.com/products_light.aspx). See if this works for you.

  31. Tricia

Here is the link for yogurt without ( )
    http://yoplait.com/products_light.aspx

  32. Kae

    Lisa,

Avocados are wonderful in a salad, tacos, fajitas, – just slice and add. Of course you could also make guacamole dip (it is super easy and yummy!). I even love to slice and eat plain!

  33. Celeste

Lisa, I’ve never tried this at home, but I’ve had some great salads and sandwiches that had avocado slices in them at restaurants. Avocados are a great source of healthy fats–right up there with olive oil!

  34. Cara

I’m planning right now for shopping later today. Does anyone know if the “seperate $25 purchase” that’s need to use the coupon for pop is from the shelf price, sale price, or actual out of pocket expense?

  35. Dawn

Bill, I am not sure there is a good time for that store? I shop there as well. I try to bring extra coupons for things I know I will use so that I have a backup plan for meals or get the shaving cream that keeps and can use. It is helpful to ask someone as sometimes they just don’t know that an item is out and to stock that item first. They have always been helpful and most of the time rein checks are an option. Good luck!

  36. Dawn

Avacados are good in soup too. I have them in a Mexican soup at a local resteraunt.
If you have left over chicken and spanish rice you can add some of the green onions, limes that are on sale and top with cheese or tortilla chips. Even mexican corn or beans can be added. Then add the avacados at the end just before serving. Great way to use left overs.

If you have never used an avacado the way I get the inside out is by running a knife the long way around the avacado. Then twist the two apart. For the seed inside just put your knife into it and again twist. From there use a spoon around the edges and you have 1/2 avacado to slice, chop or mash.

I like the limes for .25 cents and green onions are .50 each. I use limes in gauc, soup, mexican dishes and marinades.

Good time to try an avacado at the price they are at this week.

  37. Lisa

Thanks everyone. I think I might give a few ideas a whirl this week for the avacados.

Bill – I’ve been stopping at the Northtown location the last few weeks on the way to pick up my kids if I don’t want to drag them with to the Coon Rapids location on the way home. I’ve found in my few outings that the really big sales are pretty much out by the time I get there at 4:00 – 4:30. By really big sales I’m talking about things such as the Kellogs/Keebler deal that we just had. I haven’t given up yet but I’ve realized that I can’t depend on that location to be fully stocked. Maybe it’s my luck or maybe it is our timing. Dawn’s suggestion of asking to stock that item is a good one. On occasion the Coon Rapids location may be out of some things when I use that store but not as much as it feels the northtown one is and I’m usually in CR by 5:00.

I’m also crazy enough to go to the St Paul (I think it’s west?) location over lunch if I need to get out of the office. I’ll just sit here anyway so I might as well knock off what I can at that time. Then I might not even need to stop at all on the way home. I’ve found that I really don’t have any problems at lunch time except trying to make sure I get back to work on time. Hopefully i’m not the only loon here that has such a weird plan.

  38. Mary

I found out this morning that my Rainbow is no longer accepting internet coupons for free products. I tried to use the International Delights creamer coupon I got from FB and was told I couldn’t. I don’t know if this has been brought up before and if this is a Rainbow-wide policy. Cub did take the coupon.

  39. Mary

Carrie – I keep seeing that people have seen you on TV or heard you speak. How do I find out about this? I would love to see you on TV or hear you speak.
Thanks for all you do. I have always used coupons, but never knew how much money I could save with coupons. I thank that woman in the grocery store who told me about this website. I am on it all the time. Thanks Again!

  40. Nicki

It went well today at the Eagan Rainbow! I did three transactions. The cashier was nice at first, but on the third transaction told me that I was ‘probably not allowed to do this.’ I said that we had been doing it for over a year, and that Customer Service said it was fine. She then told me that she wished that CS had told the cashiers differently. I’m not sure if that means that they are telling the cashiers one transaction per customer? As the bag boy was loading up my cart, she discreetly got on her phone to CS and asked if I could do this. They must have said yes, because she hung up and didn’t say anything else :)

  41. Jean

Thank you to all of you for all the information posted here. My husband is impressed with the money I am starting to save!

I was also at the Eagan Rainbow this morning and did three separate transactions – bringing them out to the car and then coming back in for the 2nd, bringing the 2nd purchase to the car and coming back in to shop for the 3rd. It was so quiet there. I had the same cashier for the first two transactions. He was going on break when I was headed to pay for my third – he whispered something to another cashier but nobody said anything to me. I felt uncomfortable by the third time I was at the cash register . . .

I also learned today to hand my coupons to the cashier and not lay them on a product. One of mine was lost under the belt as the products moved forward. The cashier managed to dig underneath and found it, but I will always hand them directly to the cashier from now on.

  42. Lisa

Lovely lunch time run today even with the roads getting greasy.

    6 boxes of Special K – 3 BOGO Q’s, 3 $1/2 Q’s
2 loaves of bread – on sale 2/$3
    1 lb of strawberries – 1 .50/1 fruit coupon
    1 lb of tangerines – 1 .50/1 fruit coupon
    1 bag of butterscotch chip

I had my $5 from last week’s delmonte to use and it looks like there was a $5.00 off kelloggs that generated on the register automatically.

Total OOP = $3.04, plus the milk coupon for next trip, and they had the toy story cereal bowls when you purchased two kelloggs cereal so I got 3 of those.

Oh and I feel guilty about the 6 boxes so I’ll say right now that I will be handing them out to the family. I also just got a great bar recipe that uses them instead of rice krispies.

  43. Cheri

Just finished putting away my groceries. It wasn’t a stellar week for me with savings, but I had some specific wants for some NYE dishes.

I wanted to give everyone a heads-up about the Kraft cheese deal. I used 3 coupons and bought 6 packages of it to make some cheese balls. I just noticed that I got a catalina that says buy 5 cheese products(even includes sour cream, Philly cream cheese, etc.) and get $5 off a future shopping order between 1/1/10 & 1/24/10. They also had coupons on the flyer in the store for $1/3 Kraft cheese that expire on 1/2/10. Wish I’d known that before I got stuff.

  44. Scott S

I think I shopped for the last time at rainbow(Plymouth). A few weeks ago we tried to do the cereal/cracker deal and the cheese and they were all out of everything and it took forever to checkout due to 1 cashier at 7:00 on a weds evening. Now today I go over @ lunch to pickup the raincheck items and a few of the sale items and the solo cashier hands me three of my MFQ back and says you cant use these. When i question her she rudely tells me she does not know why but I will have to go to the service counter to find out. Now I doing this on the principal cause she was so rude when i questioned here. After another 10 minutes in line @ the service desk we find out the cashier rangup the cream cheese wrong. I dont think the frustration with that store is worth the savngs no matter how great.

  45. Shauna

Avocado recipes – Jessica Seinfeld has a recipe in her book for chocolate fondue with avocado and carrot as the base. Sounds funky, but is soooo delicious for strawberries, etc. Also, Alton Brown has a recipe for avocado ice cream which I have not personally tried, but i have heard good things about. It makes sense – good fat content, smooth and creamy

  46. Ann

Scott – What Plymouth location do you go to? I go to the one on 55 and have found that morning or lunch is when they are stocked best. The Customer Service manager that is there mornings and afternoons is great. I believe her name is Renee and she is always fair and keeps in mind the concept of “the customer is right”. I’ve had my fair share of less friendly cashiers (especially when I first started using coupons) but have had great experiences since. My guess is that was cashier specific. I also tend to remember the less friendly ones and if possible don’t go down their lane.

I’ve never been turned down a coupon there unless it was expired. That is definitely worth a polite email to Roundys regarding your experience. Best of Luck!

  47. Mindy

None of these are great deals at Rainbow this week, but could be in the future if these products go on sale (all are on Coupons.com, but I find that site to be not very user friendly as there is no search function). If you use any of these products, I’d print them now and save them for when they are more valuable (all expire mid- to late-January or late February):

    BOGOF Special K: http://www.specialk.com/register/offer/

    $1/1 any L’Oreal product (you have to go through their little survey and register with the site, but you can get 8-10 coupons for any product this way if you print two of each): http://www.lorealparisusa.com/_us/_en/default.aspx#/#/?page=top{userdata//d+d//|diagnostic|main:diagnosticindex|media:_blank|nav|overlay:_blank}

$1/2 Juicy Juice (you have to register): http://www.juicyjuice.com/Coupon/Print-Coupon.aspx?CouponId=481032d9-9755-4f28-b4cd-a4315976b446

$1/1 Lunchables combination pack with water (all you have to do is promise to put a note in your child’s lunch box :) http://kraft.promotions.com/lunchnotespromise/success.do?e=XZamUJ4U2jtC7wRB%252FFdCGaBied%252BUT4tyqbXtEzcyGMcvtuLWUkZmv8g2CSXtpefX

    Various DelMonte jars/single-serve fruit coupons, $1/1 or $1/3: http://www.fruitundressed.com/offers/default.aspx

$1/1 Bagelfuls (I’ve been wanting to try these, if they go on sale before the coupon expires on 1/11, or even if they don’t, I might be able to do that and get $2 off): http://brands.kraftfoods.com/bagelfuls/

    Hope this helps!

I made it to my Rainbow (SLP) twice today. I’ve got a head cold and couldn’t deal with any more math or trips to the store in the cold. As I type this, I’m still fighting the urge for one more trip.

1st trip: I bought 5 California Pizzas (2/$12) and used 5 $1/1 coupons. $30 dollars of good quality pizza for $20 OOP. Not stellar, but good.

2nd trip: Despite planning against cereal, I just could not turn down an offer of free milk and free cereal. I had to clearly explain to my husband exactly WHY I brought home more cereal again. When I explained I was paid $3 to buy 5 boxes of cereal, he smiled. It was such a good deal that I even bought the Kraft cheeses using only 50 cents off each (iow, my $1/2 coupons did not double because they were numbers 6 and 7). $13.xx total OOP

The cheese and the pizza are for a party this Sunday, along with all my crackers and cookies from earlier this month!

  49. Pam

I finally tried Rainbow, but was disappointed in the way they seemingly arbitrarily subdivided a larger coupon into smaller amounts and then doubled those. I had a $1/4 soups, two $1/2 parfait and then two others at $.75 that I expected to get doubled. They doubled the soup one, but the parfait they split into $.50 increments and doubled that four times. So I got those fully doubled in the end, but those two coupons took up four spots for doubling so that my $.75 coupons didn’t get doubled. I didn’t like the fact that I don’t know what to expect even when I plan it so carefully. Has anyone else had this experience? I noticed it after I was checked out but didn’t go to customer service because at that point, I didn’t have the coupons any longer – so how would I prove it?

  50. Jennifer

Pam – I would definitely at least call the store tomorrow and ask them about their policy in splitting coupons. That is ridiculous. They shouldn’t be taking a $1/2 coupon and splitting that into two .50 cent coupons. You must have had a cashier that was thinking she was part of the coupon police!! I would call them and explain to them what happened and then ask if you can bring your receipt in to have it adjusted. Good luck and let us know what happens. BTW – which Rainbow location did this happen at?
