Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 12/20 – 12/24/09

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

roundys

Attention all Roundy’s store shoppers! This Wednesday only Rainbow will double the face value of up to 10 coupons. Coupons must be worth $1 or less to eligible for doubling, they cannot say “do not double” (I have never seen this explicitly printed before and because it is I ask that you honor and respect it. Also know that I cannot tell which ones say “do not double” and which don’t, so you’ll have to check that yourself) and the value of your groceries must be $25 in order for doubling to happen. For more details on the rules around doubling, check out this post.

Also note that this sales flyer runs through Christmas Eve and a new sale begins on December 26.

  1. Kirsten says:

Re: doubling lower value coupons…for me it does depend on what I need, what I have space for, and what’s on sale that week. For example, I currently have about two dozen boxes of cereal in my pantry and I doubt I have space for any more, so I will not want to use any $1/off cereal coupons for at least a few weeks. Even if it is free, I have no where to put it!

Besides cereal, some weeks the only $1/off coupons I have that match with a sale may be for non-necessities (frozen pizza, ice cream, convenience foods, etc) while there are lower-value coupons for necessities. Depending on what’s in my freezer/pantry, sometimes I would rather get some free/cheap frozen veggies, pasta, etc w/lower value coupons and skip the luxuries (which still usually involve spending some money out of pocket).

  2. Shannon says:

I have a question about the Kellogs promotion in store, does it count as $20 twoards the $25 or just $10 since when you buy 8 it reduces the price? This will truly change how or IF I do a particular deal, so I would like to figure this out before I get to the store.

  3. Jennifer says:

    Shannon -
Whether or not your coupons doubled depends on the shelf price, not the sale prices or other discounts. I did this last week and received the $10 off, and then after my coupons I spent a total of $1.40 OOP for over $30.00 in groceries.

  4. Kimm says:

Shannon – the shelf price of the Kellogg’s promotion should count towards your $25. So, if you buy 8, $20 should count towards your $25.00. That only leaves you with $5 in extra purchases to come up with…and since we can double 10 Q’s this week, I think it should be pretty easy to get to the $25 threshold.

  5. Shannon says:

Kimm — Thanks — that’s they way I worked out the deal! I am very excited for this week. I can get stuff for us and the local food shelf! If all goes by plan I should be able to get what I need in three transactions, you can do that correct?

  6. Jennifer says:

You can certainly have separate transactions, as long as you are considerate of the other shoppers. It’s usually best to do max of two at a time. So, depending on how busy the store is, do one or two at a time, bring your groceries to your car, and then go back in and do your second and/or third. Does that make sense??

  7. Shannon says:

Jennifer — Thanks. I can easily do that. I sort of planned the groups so that most of the frozen items are in two groups — the rest are less time sensitive for getting out of the store.

I hope it’s not busy at 6am (which is when I plan to be there).

  8. Theresa K. says:

I’m going at 6am also, if I can wake up in time! We should develop a secret code so that we can wave at each other (pink T-shirts or the like)! Oh boy, do I have studying to do tonight!!!

  9. Shelly says:

I have a good deal for Wednesday, but the item is not on sale. If you have not yet used the coupons (I think up to two can be printed) for Organic Valley Whipping Cream, go to organicvalley.com to printed the dollar coupon. Regular price for the small container is $1.99 and with the double coupon it is free. Who can not use whipping cream at Christmas?
I know this product is available at the Savage Rainbow.

Anyone else have any good deals not connected with what’s on sale?

  10. Alison says:

Okay all you computer savvy people out there. Help me out. We just got a new desktop computer that actually can print coupons, so I now have access to 2 computers – our new apple desktop and my husband’s work apple laptop. So I was excited to print a coupons twice from his computer and twice from our desktop, however, when I went to print from his laptop, the coupons said that I had already reached my print limit. I know I have not already printed it from the laptop, but had reached the limit on our desktop. If we are printing to the same printer is this why it won’t allow 2 more prints? Or is it because we have wireless internet so it’s recognizing the computers as one in the same? Any advice would help greatly!

  11. Shanon S says:

    Allison:
It shouldn’t matter if you have the same printer. However, I wonder if your computers are networked. I can print on my laptop and my husbands desktop and my desktop (sometimes my desktop does not print Target Coupons). If the computers are networked then it’s recognized your IP as the same and that’s why it’s not letting you print.

Some coupons are by email address like the Facebook Jimmy Dean offer — you can not print it multiple time per person there — even by going to a new computer because you enter the code based upon email.

It’s the same with the Kellog site and a few others.

  12. Theresa K. says:

    Alison,

It is my understanding that the website tracks your IP address given to you by your ISP provider; whether or not you can ask for a second IP address, I do not know. You need to have access to another IP address (someone who does not use the coupons).

  13. Theresa K. says:

    Shelly,

That’s a great deal! thanks for the tip! I have several high value organic coupons that I will sort through tonight.

  14. Abby says:

    Alison-

My husband and I just purchased an apple and today was my first time printing coupons on it. The only time I received that message was when I had to log onto the web page (I think Betty Crocker make you log into print coupons), all other times I was fine.

Just an FYI, I have printed coupons using the same printer and wireless with two different computers and it recognizes the computer not the wireless and printer.

Let me know if you have any other issues and if I can help I am more than happy to.

  15. Shannon says:

Shelly that is a great deal. I have that on my list as a filler item, but have not hit the ten coupons so I will check it out!

  16. Abby says:

    Alison,

Please disregard what Theresa said about the IP address and the ISP provider (sorry Theresa I am not trying to be insulting but it is incorrect information). Each computer has its own IP address therefore you can print on each computer, the ISP provider has absolutely nothing to do it. Alison I just don’t want to get you frustrated, I verified this with my husband as he is a network engineer. He said we have one ISP provider and I was able to print from both computers. Hope this helps.

  17. Alison says:

Thanks for all the feedback – I noticed it only happened on the Betty Crocker website – I was trying to print more veggie coupons but it wouldn’t let me. I did have to register, but maybe if I re-registered under my husband’s name and his separate e-mail address? Maybe I’ll try that. I did notice that on coupons.com the coupons hadn’t reached there limit on my husband’s laptop, so that’s good. We print wirelessly as well, so I thought it might just because of that, but it appears that it was just the Betty Crocker site.

  18. pj says:

is the ore-ida coupon coming up 2 for 1.50 off-that’s what mine says?

  19. Alison says:

pj – I just noticed the same thing. I guess it is off of 2, not 1. Bummer.

Thanks for the printing advice from everyone. It was just the Betty Crocker website that wasn’t working – the other coupon sites still allowed me to print. If I re-registered under my husband’s name and e-mail address, then would it allow me to print?….maybe I’ll try that next.

  20. Theresa K. says:

No offense taken. I clearly indicated that it was my best guess. That’s what our group is for – to share information! Thanks, Abby.

  21. Shannon says:

FYI the Rainbow in Maple grove is out of the Jingles.

  22. Abby says:

    Alison,

It would allow you to print, I did it this morning.

  23. Alison says:

Success! I had to log out of the Betty Crocker page and then re-register under my husband’s name and e-mail address and then the coupons were available again. Just FYI for anyone else that may run into this situation! I also did this with the Del Monte veggie coupons.

  24. Jennifer says:

I really don’t need cereal, but the food shelf does. Tomorrow I’m dropping off ~50 boxes I picked up last week and will be “buying” more tomorrow…Lots more…and using the overage to get things I actually need.

  25. Jen says:

Just to chime in on the doubling of coupons which are less than a dollar….if I can get an item for free that I really need with a lesser value coupon, rather than purchasing something “bigger” with a bigger coupon and still needing to pay something (for example, if juice was $3.00 and I had a $1.00 coupon doubled, that would mean I’m still paying $1.00) then it’s worth it to me. Free is always good, especially if it’s something that is a “need” item rather than just an item on a list like PYD. I often go off this list entirely to get “need” items such as the DHA juice my son drinks because I can’t do better anywhere else than Rainbow on Wednesdays when I have a coupon for it.

It’s when your needs + sale + coupon + double day = free that I’m most happy because it means I really won. Getting out the door with as many need items with the lowest OOP is my only goal which I’m sure most people here try to follow too! Hope this helps!

  26. Valrie says:

    Hello,
Does the gift card counts toward the $25 threshold for doupling coupon? I don’t think so but want to confirm. thanks!
    Val

  27. Theresa K. says:

    Valerie,

I have twice used a Roundy’s gift card purchase for my $25 purchase along with my coupon items. The last time, I purchased a $25 gift card (Roundy’s) plus my 5 coupon items, and paid only $24.50!

  28. Jennifer says:

It’s official. I just returned home from my Rainbow and they would not double any of my coupons. Even those from the newspaper inserts, because they all stated DND/DNT. The computer system will still automatically do it, so they were going to manually enter each coupon for half of it’s value, so when the computer doubled it automatically, it was only giving me the face value of the coupon off.

I talked to the store manager about and she said that this is not a one-time thing for this week only. This is the new Roundy’s coupon policy. No more automatic double of just the first five coupon you hand over.

I actually ended up not getting any groceries this morning, since all of my coupons would have been rejected from doubling under their new policy. I do plan to write a letter to the Roundy’s corporate office requesting a written copy of their coupon/double coupon policy so that it can be crystal clear for future shopping trips.

  29. Lisa says:

Jennifer – thanks for the early update. It gives me time to check my coupons for DND wording on them. Sorry you had such a disappointing morning!

  30. Tanya says:

I decided to go shopping at BP Rainbow early this morning so I didn’t have to bring any kids. My coupons did double (well, most of them) but they made me reach $25 when they hit total. That was okay, but then they said you can only do one transaction per day. I could not even just come back in the store to get my second transaction. So not happy!!! Thankfully, I got most of the things I truly needed. I still have to go back and use my rain checks from last week but I think I will be going to a different store. I am so tired of them giving me such a hard time. This may start the end of my shopping at Rainbow. I can always price match at Target if their prices are that good.

Jennifer-I think they should change their computer system if that is going to be their new policy.

  31. Jennifer says:

Yes, I agree. The incentive to shop at Rainbow is fading away, because the overall regular shelf prices at Rainbow are higher then Target or Cub. I guess we will see what future weeks will bring….

  32. Celeste says:

FYI: I went this morning and the selection of cereal on the General Mills 4/$10 is very limited. Chex, Golden Grahams, Reese’s Puffs, maybe others but NOTCinn. Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, Trix, Total, Fiber One, Lucky Charms… At least they were not labeled as such at Inver Grove and I just wasn’t up to giving it a whirl. Good thing I didn’t because even though I laid on the sweetness, my cashier was arbitrarily crabby and rude–last person I want to argue with!

  33. Jennifer says:

I just did a little google search to see what I can find on Rainbow’s coupon policy, and I actually found a post with comments right here on PYD’s from September where all of this was happening. Even then, apparently, it has been Roundy’s policy not to double coupons that state DND. It must then be, because the register has no way of knowing that it says DND, it will just do it automatically. But it is supposed to be the responsibility of each cashier to not scan these one first or to charge back the doubled amount if it does. (I actually read a post here where someone had a cashier charge a dollar back to her for every DND coupon that the register doubled).

So, I think this really isn’t anything “new” from Roundy’s standpoint, but that they are cracking down on enforcement. We’ve been spoiled up till now.

Oh, and the statement “Does not apply to manufacturers’ coupons that are not valid for doubling” actually has always been there in writing. That was not new this week.

  34. Christie says:

I went to Maple Grove Rainbow at 6:00 this morning and could not have been happier. I did not bring any DND coupons as I was going to stick to the policy so that there would be no surprises. I did 2 transactions and had a very nice cashier. I did make sure that my total was $25 AFTER coupons as the ad stated. So I spent $70 and saved $80. There were some things that I absolutely needed but still felt as though I came out way ahead. I think they may be starting to crack down as people have been abusing the system. Thanks Carrie for all that you do and to everyone a very Merry Christmas!

  35. carrie says:

I know a lot of people here would be upset about it, but I would actually be relieved it Rainbow officially started limiting transactions or tying deals to the Roundy’s Rewards card to limit the number of times we get a deal.

I am kind of getting irritated at people who are buying 50+ boxes of cereal or running back and forth from their cars to do many many transactions. You may be donating lots to food shelves, but you are also keeping families like mine from getting that food. My husband recently lost his job, and we really look forward to doing the deals from PYD, but often when we find the stores ransacked and can’t even get one good transaction.

I think many people are taking advantage of the deals to such an extent that it creates an unfair shopping environment for other customers.

  36. theresa k says:

Headed straight for the manager at SLP this morning. He referred me to customer service. Smiling and pleasant she said “no changes”. I’m shopping now. Will report back!

  37. Valerie says:

Interesting that some of you are getting so many limitations… can’t believe they actually turned you away essentially by saying one transaction a day. I have it rehearsed that if I hear that at anytime, I’ll say “Thanks, I’ll go shop at Walmart.” I can’t believe they really want us to take our business there.

My experience this morning was long, but pleasant. I had a different cashier in the self-check lane, but she was helpful. My coupons were giving her a hard time so she ended up doubling some of them manually. I was also surprised that I did not get questioned on the $3 rayovac Facebook coupon that was issued this week. It’s a pdf and those always scare me. The rayovac 12 pks are B1G1 for $7.59 (not $3.99). I got 4 packs and had $3 off and $1/2 off that doubled. 48 batteries for under $10.

My totals today were $44.55 spent; $91.98 saved :)

  38. Suz says:

grrr. Went to Rainbow this morning. They doubled my first 10 coupons but I had 10 doubleable coupons and a few more that said do not double. So, I was planning on them doubling my 10 and the others would just be extra at thier face value. Not so much. The cashier just doubled 10, and when she got to a coupon that said do not double she adjusted down the price to 1/2 so after doubling it would be the same price as on the coupon. Grrr. I asked her to just do the others first if she could, that I intended to have those not double but had 10 that could be doubled. She wouldn’t do it. In the end it was only 2 coupons that should have been doubled that weren’t so I only lost $2.00. My frusteration is when, after adjusting in half the first do not double coupon, I asked her to just do the others first and she refused… actually puling out all my do not double coupons and entering them first. It’s not the money lost, but the attitude. Ok it’s behind me now :) Just had to get that off my chest.

    Shopping notes from SLP Rainbow:

    Great deals on meats
    Decent Kellogg’s selection
    Everything doubled as usual

Oop $42. Saved $52. Bought many non sale, no coupon items!

am i the only one who isn’t seeing the coffee-mate coupon?!?!

  41. Lisa says:

Melissa E – Try coffemate’s site. I used the link under the Walgreens shopping list (this week last week not sure). If you have issues with the site being slow try going through the banner that says something like “try all 5 flavors”. HTH!

I have a question for anyone who did the buy 8 Kellogg’s get $10 off instantly deal. How does this show up on your receipt? Is it a separate line or what?
I can’t seem to tell if I got the full $10 off, but I could have screwed something up. I actually bought 9 boxes of Kellogg’s cereal: I bought 5 boxes of Frosted Mini Wheats, 1 box Special K, 1 box Corn Flakes, and 1 box Star Trek (didn’t feel like talking my kids out of it).
    Any ideas? Thanks so much!

Cath – my receipt says “Coupon Keebler-Kelloggs” and then -$10 in the $ part…. hth…

you probably paid $2.50 for the 9th box as you had to do multiples of 8 to get the discount.

I did this transaction this morning.

  45. Melissa E says:

thanks Lisa!! plus, i love the idea that coffee-mate will donate $2 just for you giving some words of encouragement!!

  46. Cath says:

    Thanks, Valerie-
Yes, I knew I would be paying for the 9th box, minus coupons, of course.
But there is no indication on my receipt of the $10 coming off…UGH, looks like a trip back to argue my case at Customer Service. :(

  47. Beth says:

Are you guys doing shelf price on you 25$ transaction?

  48. Sarah says:

Cath – The $10 off from Kelloggs is on my receipt with the items (not at the bottom where all the other discounts and coupons are listed). It shows $10 in charges for cereal and then “You save $10.”

  49. Theresa K. says:

    Beth,

SLP Rainbow uses sale price and before coupons when determining $25.00 minimum.

FYI, I wanted to let everyone know that today the del monte deal is only for $15 SPENT then you will receive your $5 coupon back. That means if you use coupons you need to have a total of $15 after your coupons. We ended up paying $.60/15 (still not a bad price) with the use of three printable coupons and did not get a $5 coupon. What a disapointment, customer service explained that it was a del monte promo and not part of rainbow’s. I wonder if this happened to anyone else.
