Rainbow Foods, Copps, Pick N Save Shopping List 12/20 – 12/24/09

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

roundys

Attention all Roundy’s store shoppers! This Wednesday only Rainbow will double the face value of up to 10 coupons. Coupons must be worth $1 or less to eligible for doubling, they cannot say “do not double” (I have never seen this explicitly printed before and because it is I ask that you honor and respect it. Also know that I cannot tell which ones say “do not double” and which don’t, so you’ll have to check that yourself) and the value of your groceries must be $25 in order for doubling to happen. For more details on the rules around doubling, check out this post.

Also note that this sales flyer runs through Christmas Eve and a new sale begins on December 26.

Comments

  1. Cath says:

Sarah- THANKS! That IS on my receipt after the cereal. I will add things up to make sure it came off, but it should be fine. Thanks again!

  2. Anna says:

was dissapointed in how the batteries we advertised, actual price was 7.19 for the 12pks…..but i had $1/1 peel-offs on the packs so it made up for the poor advertising……i reduced the number i bought but it was still a good deal.
i did 2 trips today, one for the kelloggs deal that i was not able to do last week because the shelves were empty, and one for the rest of the stuff i went for, Had no trouble with coupons doubling, but i don’t think i had any DND….$87 for $17OOP

  3. Theresa K. says:

    Ann A,
It worked for me. I’m sorry it didn’t work at your store. I used two $1 off 8 Del Monte coupon and purchased 16 qualifying cans. My coupons were doubled and I received the $5 off next purchase, even though my purchase was for $12. Strange the variety of good and bad experiences with coupons.

  4. Deb says:

Was at the Rainbow in Chaska this morning – was a great experience. It was busy, but the cashier I had was wonderful and ran all my coupons through – all 10 doubled as they should. The Post cereal deals are printing $1/off your next order coupons – I bought 4 boxes and got $2 back for the next visit. $5.41 for 8 boxes of cereal, veggies, milk, 1/2 & 1/2, Bagel Bites, brownie mixes and more was my total after the “cash” back coupons. WooHoo! I was happy with that. Thank you so much for your site!

  5. Cath says:

Oh! I meant to mention this earlier. At the West St Paul Rainbow, there is a display in the back of the store of Kellogg’s items and there are free Toy Story bowls when you purchase 2 Kellogg’s cereals. I got 2, thinking I’d only get one free and would pay for the other, but it appears on the receipt that I got both free. Anyway, it’s worth a try if you have Toy Story fans in your house.

  6. Melissa E says:

has anyone had a problem getting the buddig lunch meat? it says limit 4, but the coupon is for 5…

  7. Kimm says:

Suz – your post concerns me as you stated you had more than 10 coupons, some said DND, so your expectation was that the 10 that were ‘doubleable’ would indeed, double, and the additional would scan at face value. What I heard you say is that cashier pulled the DND and brought them down to 1/2 value so it would treat those as a ‘double’. In essence, you could have ended up having a shopping trip no different than a non-Wed double coupon day. I’m frustrated for you reading your post…. I have to agree that with the inconsistency of each Rainbow and/or certain cashiers within a Rainbow is frustrating at best. I’m in complete agreement with some others who have posted…if they make it too inconsistent and difficult to do business with them, I will take my business elsewhere. With some of the inconsistency I’ve experienced (most around specific cashiers), shopping on Wed gives me anxiety. At some point, saving an extra couple bucks isn’t worth the stress and anxiety (one reason I rarely shop Walgreens — I get stressed out just reading some of the posts about their RR program!)

  8. Kim says:

Ann A, check the bottom of your receipt. The 5.00 off is part of your receipt, you have to cut it off. I would have missed mine if the cashier did not point it out.

  9. Kim says:

Some other good items with coupons

    Danimal crush cup yogurt $2.29
    use 1.00/1 from 11/1 S
    Final price after doubling .29

El Monterey Tornados (want to say they were on sale for 2.79)
    Use 1.00/1 from 10/4 S or 12/6 S
    Final price after doubling .79

  10. Jennifer says:

Well, I went out again today after reworking my coupons so that only non-DND were in my deals. I went to a different store (Maplewood) and everything there seemed just as usual. I went through the line twice and neither cashier even looked at my coupons, they just scanned them and gave me my receipt. If I had had any DND’s in there, they would have gone through.

I can’t echo enough from all of the comments how frustraiting it is that each store is so inconsistent and seem to make up their own rules about everything.

Ann A – I can’t believe what happened with you and the Del Monte products. I just did that same thing myself, 16 cans with four $1.00/4 coupons, the catalina spit out the coupon for $5.00 off my next order after the 15th can was scanned. The transaction wasn’t even finished and I had my coupon. That is absolutely unbelievable that their cash registers/promotion run differently from one store to another.

  11. Laurie says:

I did my shopping early this morning at the NE MPLS (Quary) Rainbow. I was pleasantly surprised that the shelves were stocked and there were so many employees stocking shelves. Everyone was is a great mood even all the cashiers were in a great mood. I ended up doing 5 transactions (bringing out to car after each transaction). I had no problem with being able to do mutiple transactions. I spent a total of $67 and saved $160. I was so excited to save all of that!!!

Suz-I feel for you. Last week I had a cashier 1/2 some of my coupons too. What I am doing now is that I give the cashier all of the coupons that I want to double first. Then after they scan those coupons then I give them the rest. That way they can’t go through my coupons and change the values.

Thanks Carrie for all the hard work you do to maintain this website. Have a Fabulous Christmas!

  12. Laurie says:

    oh… one more thing…

Egg beaters were 2/$4. We had coupons from online (I think it was from coupons.com) $1 off of 1 so I actually bought 4 and with the doubling it was free.

  13. Katie says:

I went to the Maplewood store this morning and things were as usual, although very busy. The cashiers were friendly. They did double all coupons, even the DND ones. Everything was well stocked.

3 transactions-3 separate trips to the car because it was so busy and I didn’t want to hold up the lines.

    Retail=$156.81

OOP=$31.49 (I used 2-$10 gift cards earned last week to get it down to this)

    Savings of 80%

  14. Laurie says:

Egg beaters were 2/$4… I had $1 off 1 coupon from coupons.com (I think) so they were actually FREE… YIPPY!

  15. Cath says:

Melissa- I purchased 5 Buddigs, but the 5th one was full price- 79 cents. HTH!

  16. Nicki says:

My husband was at the Apple Valley store this morning and had a terrible experience – the cashier was nice, but the manager came over (nothing better to do at 6:30am? lol) and basically made my husband’s experience hell. She rolled her eyes and complained about every coupon, and in one transaction just simply refused to take more than 5 coupons. We’ve always had great experiences at the Eagan Rainbow, so a few hours later I took the receipts and unused coupons over there and Customer Service sorted it all out for us and took the coupons. The woman there was appalled that the manager at the AV store had been so rude. We’ll be skipping the AV store and using the Eagan one all the time now! :)

  17. Nicki says:

‘I did make sure that my total was $25 AFTER coupons as the ad stated. So I spent $70 and saved $80. ‘

I don’t believe the ad stated $25 AFTER all coupons – mine said something like ‘$25 must be after store coupons and sale prices.’ Nothing about manufacturer coupons…

  18. Janis says:

A very successful trip! At the Uptown Rainbow there was a note in the Del Monte section that said that you needed to have a Roundy’s rewards card to get the $5 bonus cash. I didn’t have one but the register gave it to me anyway. With the $5 back I spent $24 and saved $62. Thank you!

  19. Roberta says:

    Hi,
Thank you for this site, Carrie. I just saved 59% off my grocery run to Rainbow. That is only after about a month reading your site and others about coupons. Your explanations and deal suggestions are so helpful. I would never figure that kind of savings out just looking at the ads, without your experienced advice. Have a safe and happy holiday!!

  20. Howard says:

My recent experience at the Maplewood Rainbow…
Thomas’ Bagels were on sale through 12/24. 2/$4.50, coupon for $1.88 limit 2. The item was properly labeled in a stand alone aisle display and on the shelf. The sale is also reflected on the website. They rang at the register at $3.59.

The cashier would not ring the coupon because the bagels were not Entenmann’s Bagels (?). I took the matter to the Customer Service desk. There I advised the person that the item was marked correctly in the aisle, and on the internet, but that the computer was wrong. She stated she did not believe the computer was wrong. I offered to bring the display sign to her to prove the item was on sale. The person at the customer service desk did not offer to investigate the matter and told me she would not sell me the bagels at the sale price. I took my basket of groceries (without the bagels) and left.

I will shop elsewhere before being made to feel like a thief. Suggest you all do the same.

  21. Penny says:

    Carrie,

Late July, I caught a great Kare 11 segment “Pocket Your Dollars!” Today, five months later…I saved $199.43 – 6 separate transactions at Rainbow – tons of great stuff to donate to the food shelf and we now have a well stocked freezer and pantry…I spent $34.56 oop today and that included three beautiful beef tenderloins (total sale price = $27.44).

I would have never imagined saving 85% a year ago.

    Thank you Carrie!!

  22. Angela P says:

Today my total savings was 65%. Not bad!! I spent $26 and saved a total of $47. I have been shopping at the Rainbow in Lakeville. It has been very busy lately but the staff has been very pleasent to deal with. Overall, a very sucessful shopping experience!!

  23. Sarah says:

I had a very successful shopping trip to the Apple Valley Rainbow yesterday morning. One of the employees even gave me Rainbow milk and Wheat Thins coupons from a register when I asked because they were out of the fliers. I have always had good customer service at the AV store; it’s strange how people have such different experiences.

  24. Jeanna says:

I have always had great success at the Eagan store. My coupons always double without any hesitation and the customer service people are understanding. I didnt save as much as usual, but I bought some items that were needed and I didnt have coupons for them. All in all another successful trip.

  25. J says:

Went to the Northtown Blaine store last night. Used eleven $1 off coupons (None said “do not double”), every one of the first 10 doubled for the full value, so I got a few items “better than free” as advertised in the original post. Spent $8.41 and saved $36.66!!

  26. Shelly says:

Yesterday I spent $20.55 and saved 45.74 (which included the five dollar coupon). A 69% savings!!!

Ann A: I used 2 coupons for purchasing the Del Monte deal and I still got the $5 coupon. I did use my Roundy’s card. The coupon printed out at the bottom of my receipt. When the Roundy card is necessary, Rainbow is obviously involved in the promotion. They flat out lied to you. If I were you, I would copy some of these posts and take them back to your store and talk to the main manager. Back in September I had problems with my Rainbow taking Internet coupons. I copied a number of the posts here, copied out the Rainbow coupon policy and talked to both the Service Center Manager and the Manager on duty. They showed me their policy which was an old one, so they checked with Corporate and since then they have not once refused my coupons. The difference is they never lied to me!! That is the depths of poor customer service. It truly is worth the extra time, who needs the extra stress. I went from being PO to truly caring for the wonderful folks at that store.

  27. Jennifer says:

I had originally posted at about 6:30am yesterday about my problems with the Roseville store. I reworked my shopping lists and went to the Maplewood store in the afternoon and had a great experience. Used all of my coupons, got the $5.00 off Del Monte deal (and used 4 of the $1.00/4 coupons, so I got 16 cans for a net of $3.00) and left very happy.

Then my sister in law told me that she went to the Roseville store too yesterday. The same one I had issues with. All of her coupons were doubled and the cashier told her they would double any coupons she had just like they have every other week.

So frustrating. I did send a nice letter to corporate yesterday regarding their policies and having a clearer understanding of them.

But, since the staff at Roseville was so crabby and unfriendly yesterday, I think I will make it my habit to shop at Maplewood from now on.
