I went to the Chaska store this morning. The Kelloggs cereal was pretty picked over, but the crackers were well-stocked.
Also, an FYI-the Wheat Chex are NOT part of the Chex/free milk deal. Ask me how I know…
The Rainbow in Forest Lake was pretty bare on kelloggs/keebler this morning, except for some of the cereals. They said they would be getting another shipment later today. If anyone finds that they have been restocked, please do let us know! Thanks!
Nate – I’d like to hear what kind of deals you did get?
COUPON ALERT. If you go on Target’s website and print out their coupons, there is actually a “take $5 off 4 Kellog’s cereals” coupon that is a manufacturer’s coupon. Thought this might be a great one to use on a Wednesday (even though it doesn’t double).
Mary – Here’s what I got:
6 Boxes of Frosted Mini Wheats: $0.99 each
2 boxes Special K bars: $0.99 each
2 loaves Brownberry Bread: $3.89 (buy one get one free)
2 bags Nestle Chocolate Chips: $1.68 each (w/ store coupon)
1 jar Red Star Yeast: $5.19
2 jars Beech-Nut baby food: $0.75 each
2 packs Roundy’s butter: $0.88 each (w/ store coupon)
1 Yo+ yogurt: $2.59
Coupons used:
$1/3 Kellogg’s (x2)
$1/2 Special K bars
$1/1 Nestle (x2)
$.75/1 Red Star yeast
Free Beech-Nut baby food (x2)
Free Yo+ yogurt
The receipt claims I saved $38.19, but all of the Kellogg’s products regular price is close to $3.50, $1 more than they rang up for today. So I really saved about $46. I paid $11.53, for a total savings of 80%. I would have gotten two blocks of Roundy’s cheese as well, but they were all out. I debated doing two transactions and getting a few more things, but I needed to keep the total low this week as I went a little over budget the last couple of weeks. I wasn’t planning on buying any groceries this week, but those deals were too good to pass up.
Wow – lots of deals and stories today… I feel badly for those that had bad experiences. I just got back from my PicknSave and they were bending over backwards for me (in the self-check lane)… They even opened up a lane for me to do my third trx. (The self check was having issues with the kellogg’s stuff.) I was a little floored by a trx that I put together on the fly in the store this morning. I got 5 boxes of crackers, 2 boxes of Special K bars, 1 box of Honey Corn Flakes, 2 Buitonis (on sale for $3 each, had a peelie for $1 off of each), and a lunchable without the drink (on sale for $1). I used some of the $1.50 off q’s (2), the lunchable printable that came out last week, and then some of the $1 off q’s for the crackers/cereal. My total came down to $.37… best of my 3 trx and I did it on the fly!
My totals for the day were $31 altogether with 2 Kellogg’s deals and 1 without any Kellogg’s. Total saved was $73… and I’m in agreement with Nate…. add about $16 more for the additional $ reg price for the cereals/crackers.
Thank you to the early morning posters! I went to St. Louis Park just to ensure I would actually get some cereal and they had plenty in stock (cereal and crackers). And Lisa, NO it’s not sad that you get excited! My husband offered to go to Rainbow for me (SLP store on his way to work) and I said no thanks, I’d like to get my coupon high. :)
The clerk at SLP Rainbow said they were having a similar sale next week (I think the same brands??) with prices being $1.25 per box. Hopefully then those of you having problems using $1 off coupons can use them next week!
Please be extra nice to your cashiers…they are super stressed with the sale. Mine were uncharacteristically a little crabby today.
Had a good shop though with no transactions over $5!!
Just remember it’s not worth losing your cool for a couple of bucks.
The Rainbow in Maple Grove will not take the Target Manufacture coupons, just to let you know.
They were out of the cream cheese too — which made me fustrated as I forgot to get a rain check.
After Ruth’s post above, I decided to drop a note of praise to the Customer Service website for my Roundy’s store. Those cashiers put up with a lot of stuff most weeks and this one is especially crazy. Wouldn’t it be great if we all spread some cheer in the spirit of Christmas and gave em some praise! It was easy and took a few seconds, but it will go miles! Join me if you can :)
So I caved and went back over my lunch break for a second round through the line since I forgot to get some cookies for my church calss tonight. It was freaking nuts! Very little cereal left. Anyway… I got about $34 worth of groceries for $3.50! That is definitely my best trip! If I didn’t know that al the cereal would be gone by this afternoon, I’d take another trip onmy way home since I have more coupons I can use.
Sorry to hear about some of the challenges some of you had today. I actually got lucky for once at the Apple Valley Rainbow. Did four transactions, each one I ran to the car, because of the limit on 8/99cent items per person. The shelves were bare at 8am, but by 9am there were 3 vendors stocking the shelves in the cookie/snack aisle. The store got swamped by 9:30am and with 5 cash registers open, I stategically avoided the “cranky cashier”. No really she doesn’t ever smile and she is the Q police. Plus I shared http://www.pocketyourdollars.com advice with 3 people. I am so stocked on goodies.
Just to put my previous reply into context… when we were there this morning, there was maybe 4 other people in the Forest lake store, so there was not a crazy rush to frazzle the cashier that was on duty. I have cashiered before in retail so I know things can get crazy. We have never had a problem in the evening with service, so we will just stick to going then. We had 5 more runs through planned this evening, but from the sounds of it there will not be anything left. That won’t keep us from trying though. :)
Unfortunately, the experiences noted at the Forest Lake Rainbow are common. I shop there even on non-Wednesdays and the morning has cranky cashiers. It’s unpleasant. I try to go at night instead. Today I knew it might be crazy so I went to Vadnais on my way home from taking my son to work in Maplewood. I’ve always had good experiences there.
Sean,
If you know the name of the cashier, could you please email me personally? I think I was ahead of you in line this morning at Rainbow in FL. I too had problems. I spent $50 in groceries, and then the cashier re-sorted my coupons so that my 50 cent ones would be the doubled, not my $1 (they weren’t even for kelloggs!!) I was flabbergasted to hear her making up her own policies for you too. I think I would like to make a proper complaint.
Thank You. My email is DNLDraine@hotmail.com
The Rainbow on Larpenteur now makes you spend $25 to get coupons doubled. I was not happy!
Carrie~ I know you shop in Maple Grove and they were out of chesse, cream cheese and almost all Kelloggs cereal’s. They had plenty of crackers, but thought I would give you a heads up. My cashier was very nice today. I went to 3 stores, did 5 transactions and spent $78.98 on $236.91 worht of groceries. I am so well stocked I will need next to nothing next week!!
Christie – Thanks for the heads up. I will have to go really late so I can get things as they are re-stocking the shelves. That’s often my trick to actually get the items and not justy rain checks, but dairy products aren’t restocked on Wednesdays, justed boxed and canned goods.
Tyson frozen bagged chicken nuggets or chicken tenders are 5.99 on sale this week. I used $1/1 from one of the coupon inserts in the Strib paper a few wks back. Made it only 3.99 which I think is a good deal for the bags. Does anyone else think so, too?
Went to the Roseville Rainbow at 9:30 AM and they had at least 10 people stocking the shelves. They were restocking crackers, cookies, and NutriGrain bars when I went and then when I was leaving, someone was restocking the cereals. Crazy morning there!
I did the 99 cent deal on Sunday, too. Got 4 boxes of Special K bars & 4 boxes of crackers – with my coupons (not doubled) the total was $1.98. Then today, I got 4 boxes of NutriGrain bars (had two $1/2 coupons from a coupon booklet a while back at some store), 1 box of Cherry Poptarts, 1 box of Strawberry Poptarts, and 2 Fruit Loops with two $1/1 coupons from the blinkies about a month ago. That basically made everything free considering the $1/1 fruit loops doubled and I’ll “use” the doubled $1 to compensate for the .99 cent Poptarts :) I also got a raincheck for up to 8 blueberry frosted poptarts so I plan to do that next week or whenever they are restocked in those. My kids love the blueberry & they were out this morning… but even better, I get to do the .99 cent deal again with the raincheck and could get just 8 boxes of those… I still think that’s an awesome deal. I also did the GM deal to get the milk. Used a $1/2 and two $1/1′s on 4 boxes of Reese’s puffs cereal… Hubby is going to be thrilled because he loves this cereal along with the kiddos. We have never had so much “sugary food” in our house… I think my kids are going to be a little more energetic for the next couple of months!!! Maybe I will have to hide a bunch of boxes to spread it out :)
And the Green Giant Steamer veggies are free if you have the right coupons this week! I remember people were complaining about veggies not being free lately on another post but today is the day to stock up if you need veggies! By the way, shelf price is 1.69 at Rainbow for these.
I spent $52 today in 3 trnx with a toddler in tow for $167 worth – that’s almost a 70% savings… probably the best I have ever done!!! I normally hover around 60% savings which I am completely satisfied with but wow, 70% made me smile!
Liza which cashier did you have?! I went there this morning and I didn’t have any problem!!
So funny about the couponing high. For the past couple of weeks, I’ve had trouble sleeping on Wednesday night. I’m wired. I might skip today cuz of other purchases, so the break is kind of nice before Christmas.
I just got back from the Eagan store. They were out of EVERYTHING for the 99 cents deal. It was a zoo. Supposedly more is coming in today…
I think I had the same cashier as Sean and Mary at the Forest Lake RB this morning. I was so frustrated with her resorting my coupons and randomly changing their value. I had 2 coupons for the Asian Sensations, which were BOGO and she told me I couldn’t use both coupons since I was getting one free. I asked her to call the mgr. Guess what? He wasn’t helpful either. I think their sticking point was some of my cereal coupons were $1.00 off so they said they ‘couldn’t’ double them …even tho I was using more than 5 coupons some were for $1/2 so they should have doubled those and let the others ring at $1. Regardless… I got so frustrated that I told them to void my entire transaction and that I would start shopping somewhere else. That wasted 40 minutes of my time this morning. I’ve had issues with this particular cashier before. Note to self – if I shop there again, I’m checking to see if she is at the registers. If so, I’m leaving right then and there and wlll either come back later or go to a different rainbow. Ughhh…you’d think it was coming out of her pocket.
My husband and I went to the Brooklyn Park Rainbow today, about noon-ish. Specifically i wanted the Mini-wheats and cheez-its. They were COMPLETELY out of all the .99 cereals and .99 cracker items. I was very bummed. I am not going back tonight, because it doesn’t work for my schedule even though it says they are getting a shipment in sometime tonight. I might go back later this week. My son’s favorite crackers are Cheez-its. Even without the double coupon, it’s a great deal getting $1 off 2 when they’re only .99 a box.
Also they were completely out of the OM Bacon which was 2.49, which I also was hoping to get. No sign there noting whether more would be coming in later.
Hit my first trip over lunch and HOLY BUSY! I went to the Rainbow on Robert in St Paul. I actually couldn’t even get my cereal/bar deal with my coupons – the shelves were bare – so I had to think on the fly and resort to my “evening” transactions that I would have done on the way home. Cheese was out too.
I tried the speed zone for the first time and wouldn’t you know I picked the only lane that won’t scan coupons. The poor lady had to do each by hand and of course I had two transactions. Thank goodness she was very very nice. I also noticed for the first time that the sale price was what counted towards my total. I’ve watched before and it’s been shelf price (at least I’m 95% certain). Luckily I had thrown two bottles of the lotion rebate in the cart in case I didn’t hit the mark to mark sure I was safe – would have just put them back if not needed.
On a bad note I forgot to get rainchecks but I’m still going to stop tonight!
I thought the cereal deal (.99)ended today.. I’ll have to look at the flyer again and the four day special.
Angie the $5 of $20 Northern TP etc was on the display (end cap).
I just got the “end of the week” Rainbow ad in the mail today. It says that next week only you will be allowed to double 10 manufacture coupons per $25 purchase. Hope they have good sales next week too!
Just got back from Rainbow in Plymouth/Golden Valley. It is right next to work so I ran through twice and got GREAT deals! It was super busy but they had obivously been restocking as everything I wanted was in and one woman had just asked them to restock the bars! My values were a little higher at checkout since I got chicken breast every time I went through but we are low on chicken so I wanted to stock up a bit. I just looked at my totals and for 3 transactions (I did one this morning at my Rainbow on the way to work) I spent $35.75 for $146.39 of groceries! So that is a savings of at least 75%!
On top of the great Kelloggs deal I picked up 3 Emerald Peanuts for free! I had one coupon from the paper and when I got there all of the peanuts had peelies for $1/1! WooHoo! We love to snack on peanuts in our house so anytime I can get them free I rejoice! :)
This sale was perfect timing since we were just starting to get low on cereal from the great sales at Cub back in the fall!
Tanya,
Thanks for the heads up that next week we can double 10 coupons per $25 transaction! Woo hoo! Me too, I’m with you, I hope they have good sales. That would make up for them being out of every single .99 Kellogg’s and Keebler item when I went in today. So sad to see all the bare shelves where the good deals were supposed to be.
I totally agree with Ruth – if you do have a good experience or a helpful cashier – make sure to tell them that or contact them via their website (www.rainbowfoods.com). I just sent an e-mail comment on this website in praise of a specific cashier that I like at the specific store that I shop. I know that I’m always quick to complain if something goes wrong, but often do nothing if something goes “right.”
Did anyone purchase the Asian Sensations and if so what was the price?
Hey….wait…..can we get rainchecks on the sale cereals? I was just assuming no because it is such a great deal. That might change everything! :)
The Rainbow in Plymouth/Wayzata is substituting Kraft cheese for the ad cheese. Great deal.
And those of you without dinner plans tonight….take one of your grocery items to Punch Pizza with a coupon you can find on this site and you’ll have a free pizza on them. :)
I was able to use the 5.00 off coupon for kellogg’s (from target website) at the Oakdale Rainbow.
Hey everyone, thanks for all the tips. I’m encouraged that maybe I can find something later after restocking occurs.
Does anyone have any input on the condition of Rainbow off Lake street, east of Hiawatha? It’s close to work and I thought I’d swing by but have never been there. If shelves are empty and cashiers are crabby I may skip it! I had my crabby cashier this am at 6:30!
Thanks, Julie
I’ve noticed Rainbow has become sticklers when it comes to coupons. They really follow the fine print. They wouldn’t let me use the Hartz “naturals” dog treats $2 coupon on Hartz “crunch n clean” dog treats. When I tried to use the coupon that came on the box AND the $1 Hartz “crunch n clean” dog treats coupon from the Smartsource, they only let me use one of the coupons.
They are sticklers with double coupon day too. You do have to spend $25 to get the double coupons.
I shop at the Quarry Rainbow in Minneapolis.
Just came back from Forest Lake Rainbow and they would not double my $1/1 on the Kelloggs as they said it was more than I paid and it was coupon fraud! Has anyone had trouble like that? They wouldn’t double them and only took off .99 for each coupon.
Julie — I haven’t been in to the Rainbow on East Lake in Mpls yet today, but generally I find their stock on Wednesdays to be pretty good, with the exception of meat — i have had some problems with them being out of stock with sale meat items some weeks. Of course today, who knows??? I don’t think I have had any cashier issues there in a long time, though I generally don’t try and push it in terms of what I am doing — I always only do one transaction at a time, etc.
If anybody has been in to the East Lake St. Mpls store or the one in Richfield on 66th I would also like to know what stock is like. At this point it is looking for me like i won’t be able to go until after kids are in bed, so I am hoping that if the shelves are bare now they won’t be by later tonight!!
Just a little note to all of Pocket your dollar fans. That Rainbow foods does not accept any target coupons. Also I work at one and customers are coming in with printed coupons that they copy many times off the original. Rainbow will not accept those coupons. Only printed coupons. I heard a lady copied many times and was coming in for the Kellogs/Keebler. They caught her. The company looses money. I would have to say that is illegal to do such thing
I got a Rainbow ad in the mail today for the sale starting tomorrow and it says that they’ll double 10 coupons next Wednesday!
Oh Phyllis, sorry you got some ignorant info thrown in your face… The Kellogg’s sale is clearly sponsored by Kellogg’s (per the full page ad they ran with the sale ) and Kellogg’s issued those coupons in the week before the sale. I’m sure they knew exactly what they were doing. They are looking for brand loyalty during the holidays and are drawing us in with high value coupons. It’s almost funny this time of year to watch GM and Kellogg’s do these sales in a bidding war for our business. I think I would let the manager know that you were offended by the comment and expect better in the future.
The Maplewood store on White Bear Avenue was out of everything. No Kelloggs/Keebler, no bagel bites, no freshlike veggies, no cheese… I did get rainchecks though and yes they were giving rainchecks on the Kelloggs/Keebler deal. I was going to try another store later but I just decided I really didn’t need any of those items, so I’ll just wait until next week when they are well stocked.
“Just came back from Forest Lake Rainbow and they would not double my $1/1 on the Kelloggs as they said it was more than I paid and it was coupon fraud! Has anyone had trouble like that? They wouldn’t double them and only took off .99 for each coupon.”
WOW
That just defies logic. By that assumption on the stores part, their whole double coupon day would be coupon fraud. The shelf price still says 2.49, you only get down to 99 after the $10 off. They should know this.
I called the West St Paul Rainbow and they told me they are completely out of Kellogg’s cereal and won’t get any more in.
Is it worth a trip there anyway for a raincheck, and how do I go about doing that? I’ve never asked for a raincheck before! ;)
Plymouth Rainbow (494&Rockford) were completely out of Kellogg’s cereal except for Honey Smacks (not a fan). Out of cheese too… I asked for a raincheck instead. I didn’t bother to do more than one trip because they had huge lines and it was just plain crazy in there today. Make sure to ask for a raincheck and use it next Wednesday! You have to know all 8 items you will be purchasing though as they include this on the raincheck .
Carrie-
I just got back from rainbow and they are having a great deal on Kraft cheese. They are 3/4.98 and here is a coupon http://print.coupons.com/Couponweb/Offers.aspx?pid=13903&nid=10&zid=xh20
It will make the cheese 0.66 each for 8 oz. I was very happy to get cheep cheese!
Dawn, I noted the Asian Sensations were about $3.50 a pkg.
Arg! It was crazy this afternoon. I thought about going back later tonight, but I asked the cashier—she said the sale was ending at 7PM. I don’t know if that’s true of all Rainbows in the metro, but it’s just a heads-up.
Went to Rainbow today, I can’t believe how much food I got for only $40.00. The deals were great and getting double coupons, makes me smile. Thanks for all your help Carrie, I was laid off 6 months ago so every dollar helps. God bless
For those of you who’ve been treated unfairly by cashiers defying their own company’s policies, you really should write a letter of complaint. The manager of the store would surely want to know!
To “Terry” from Rainbow, it is a shame that one lady chose to do that. The reason many of us frequent this particular site is that Carrie teaches couponing from an ethical and very legal practice. I hope Rainbow presses charges against people who copy coupons; it most definitely is stealing and ruins things for the majority of us who don’t do that.
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?? My Rainbow makes me spend $25 and I can ONLY double 5 coupons. Is this correct? Do most stores let you double as MANY as you want to?
