Thanks, Valerie! The salt we use is on sale at Cub starting today for $3.50 a bag (limit 4), so guess that’s pretty good. Cub used to regularly have that type on a coupon for 5 bags for $10. My husband and I sometimes lament that we’re stuck in a time warp with expecting prices to be the same as they were several years ago : )

My husband and I have priced salt regularly at 4.99/bag. We look for prices under that as being a sale. Aldis carries salt regularly for $3.99/bag, but they don’t accept coupons. hth. I’ve used the morton coupons when PNS ran a sale a few months ago.

Thank you, Tami! I found it and printed off two of the Blue Bunny coupons and then has a thank you for joining the “I scream” club, I got another one. My son was excited to find Peanut Butter Panic and Monster Cookie cream in our freezer – and the price was great!

On another note, Carrie, do you or any of your readers know of the best price on salt for the water softener? I usually get it when Cub has their coupons for salt. And years ago, I remember that Culligan had a once a month “cash and carry” sort of sale on 80 lbs bags. Costco does not have a good price (or else maybe it’s just a more premium one than we would buy). Thanks!

My story is about the same as many of yours. My Rainbow shopping bill without coupons would have been $109.50 with the general sale prices listed in the Rainbow ad. But utilizing double coupons and General Mills in store rebates, my total cost for 4 transactions was $42.78 a 61% savings. I try to keep things simple and organized by only spending about 1 hour prep and heading out to the store. The thing I try to remember is to buy a good balance of food to last the whole week to feed my famliy of 5. Thanks for all the buying tips posted by Carrie and others here on PYD.

I’m pretty new at this too (about a month) so can relate to some of your questions. As a newbie I”m trying different things. I have had nothing but good experiences at Rainbow (Blaine) so hope your experience doesn’t scare you away. Maybe you can call headquarders and let then know how you were treated? But don’t give up!

I don’t know the answer to the manufactured coupon with a target logo. I used one the other day at Rainbow without difficulty, the register didn’t beep. Does anyone else see a policy on that somewhere? I would like to know the answer.

Thanks to all your deals you put together, I haven’t paid a red cent for my cereal in months, I think I might be going on a year now. I have to tell you the cereal deal I got yesterday. I live in Madison, so my ad is one week behind yours. The promo was “buy 8 kellogg’s cereal, and receive $5 off”. At first blush, this does not sound like much of a deal. Well, it turns out that most kellogg’s cereal was on sale for 1.99 and it also coincided with their other promo ” buy $20 worth of Kellogg’s cereal between 9/1 through 12/2, and receive $5 off your next order. And I was already $10 into that promo.

I happened to have (8) $1 Kelloggs’s cereal coupons with me. So, here is the deal that I got:
Bought 8 boxes at 1.99 for roughly 16.00. Since the coupons doubled on the first five, the coupons took off (5) *2 + (3) *1 = 13.00. Then I got $5 off my order for purchasing 8 boxes, then I got another $5 off on my next order for the other promo. So, I ended up making $7 on this deal.
( 16 -13 -5 -5 = -7). I think this is the best cereal deal I have ever gotten!

I was at Rainbow yesterday and received my $5 coupons for the Yoplait and Kelloggs cereal. I also received $5.00 for buying Lean Cuisine! I have no idea how many you have to buy to get this but I bought 10 of them. I do not like these coupons, they are on the bottom of your receipt, very hard to miss and you have to use all of them at once.

I’m new to the site (and to coupon cutting), and I had a question for you folks. I went to Rainbow yesterday to try to take advantage of some of your suggestions, and tried to use two manufacturer-issued coupons with the Target logo on them. I was at the Rainbow on Lake Street in Minneapolis (near Minnehaha Ave.), and the cashier refused to take the coupons because they had the Target logo on them. The manager came over and also refused to take them, and was actually really rude about it. She spoke down to me in such a snide manner that I don’t think I’ll ever go back to that Rainbow. But I want to know, was she right? I thought from this blog that manufacturers coupons were good anywhere, even if they have a Target logo on them.
