Aldi Shopping List 12/20 – 12/26/09

aldi

Aldi has some great prices on produce this week.  These prices are based on the Minneapolis/St. Paul-area sales flyer.

If you’ve never shopped at Aldi bring a quarter (not 25 cents, but a quarter) for the refundable deposit on your cart and your own bags. They take cash or debit card, but not credit card. Find an Aldi near you.  Remember that their produce is ripe for eating when you buy it, so be prepared to eat it, freeze, can it or otherwise use it up right away.

Your turn: What else are you getting at Aldi for your holiday meal?

Celery. $0.69 each

Broccoli.$0.99 per package. One thing I love about Aldi’s brocolli is that it is just the crowns, which means you get more usable vegetable for your money. I think I’ll buy a bunch and make cream of broccoli soup with chicken.

Pineapple. $1.49 each

Sweet Potatoes.$0.59/lb sold in three-pound bag for $1.77. This is not advertised this week, but this is Aldi’s everyday price on sweet potatoes. You can’t beat it.  Try making sweet potato chips and fries in the oven, besides your typical Christmas side dish.

I am passionate about helping people keep their money where it belongs - in their pocket. I live in Minneapolis, MN with my husband and two little girls.

Also, After hearing you a couple weeks ago on KTIS, Carrie…I donated many perishable/non-perishable items to our local food bank out of the $44. Thank you!

Is Aldi the best place for frozen fruit? I still need to make my holiday jam.

Lisa, I use frozen strawberries from Aldi to make smoothies and they are great! I also purchased frozen bluberries from Aldi to make a pie and it turned out perfect!! Hope that helps.

Chrystal, that sounds great! I think that will be my new fruit stop.

As of yesterday my Aldi’s was selling the sweet potatoes for 99cents for a 3lb bag. YMMV

Dang it! I was just there on Saturday and they didn’t have the sweet potatoes in yet! Guess I’ll have to go back.
