These are the best deals I see for Roundy’s stores (Rainbow Foods, Pick N Save and Copps) this week, assuming you shop on Wednesday and have the face value of your coupon doubled. Welcome to all the Twin Cities Live viewers that will check out this list after the segment airing Tuesday at 3 pm on KSTP 5. You’ll find the deal idea I discuss on-air at the very bottom of this list. Thanks too to Brandy who helped me put this together.
Learn how-to have your coupons doubled in value here. If you are new to Pocket Your Dollars, learn to read this shopping list. For any printable coupon you should be able to print each one twice from a single computer. If you have trouble try the troubleshooting suggestions found here.
Your turn: What cereal and Procter & Gamble deal scenarios are you putting together?
Incredible Meal Deal
Buy Cooks Ham portion ($1.99/lb and average ham is 9-16 pounds),
Get Jennie-O 10-12 lb hen turkey, dozen Roundy’s eggs, and 12 oz Roundy’s breakfast sausage free**
**Yes, this is an easy way to get one of your transactions to $25. However, I am going to pass on this deal for two reasons. My family won’t eat Cook’s ham and second, Cook’s ham has a rock bottom price of $0.99 per pound. A 9 pound ham is $9 more than rock bottom price which is nearly a wash for the turkey. That leaves you to be getting a great deal on eggs and sausage. If you get a larger ham, then this may not be a deal at all. Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble.

Final Price: Varies depending on what you buy**
**My target price is $1 per box of cereal. Since I don’t know the regular prices for everything I am not putting a deal idea together, but I’ll clue you in on how I’d calculate this in the store.
- I’d add up the total value of the five cereals (I try and pick the ones priced right around $3)
- I’d subtract $5 for the store promotion
- I’d add up the value of my coupons for the cereals I bought and double it
- I’d subtract the doubled value of the coupons
- If my total was much higher than $5 I’d pass up the deal. OK, considering the value of the milk I might be okay with a total of $7 after coupons.
That said, I focus on using the highest value coupons I can like two $0.75/1 Multi-Grain Cheerios, two $0.75/1 Total and I have a $1 off Honey Nut Cheerio coupon from the sample I was recently sent. That is $8 in value when the coupons are doubled right there.

Looks like the Dawn Renewal isn’t the one in Rainbow flyer for $1 — at least according to pictured items–there is a 25c Q for the brand of Dawn that is on sale (same page in PG insert). Can someone post if Dawn renewal is on sale for $1?
I’d be shocked if the Perfect 10 Hair color is included in the sale for $5.99. It’s not listed in the ad, and it generally runs twice the price of Nice and Easy. Better to check the store before counting on that deal. Nice and Easy is usually in the $7.99 range, while Perfect 10 is more like $14.
Haagen Dazs ice cream is 2/$5 (I’m hoping that includes the Haagen Dazs 5)
Fifty cents is a pretty good price for a darn good treat.
I’ll probably pick up a California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizza too, I like to keep a fancy frozen pizza around to ward off the feeling to go out to eat.
Hi! I am in agreement with Mollie on the Perfect 10 haircolor. The one time I did buy it, it was well above $10 and that was at a Walgreens. I would not expect it to included with the Nice and Easy sale price of $5.99 .
I’m going to Rainbow today to check on it and will update the list as needed.
Subscribing to see what ‘s hot.. Not sure if I’m going to shop this week or not, but my son’s school starts their Salvation Army food drive this week and it would be good to start gathering up the freebie dry goods. :)
Is the “Multi Serve” Tony’s pizza (which the coupons are for) the ones in the ad?
I usually stock up on the Roundy’s string cheese when it’s $1 (which it is this week) since we go through a lot of it. Do you all think the $1.50 off 2lb of cheese posted yesterday will work for this?
I’m ready to give the Rainbow double coupon day a shot this week. Can anyone tell me the best way to do “transactions” since you can only double 5 coupons per transaction per the coupon policy? Thanks!
Hey Lisa,
I’ve tried a variety of methods, but have yet to settle on one particular one. Lately I’d make my list of what the family needs; and what the coupon “offerings” are. (I keep them separate). Then, I’ll go through and put an extra mark on the coupons that I really want to get, and mark the next five that I’d like to get… and so on. Then, I go and hunt down the coupon items and put them in the cart first. I add on my handy-dandy portable calculator the shelf total of each item. Once I have my first five coupon items, I’ll go back and add to the cart what my family needs (adding the costs on the calculator) until I reach $25. If your store allows you to do multiple transactions, you can keep them separate in your cart and go through the line with two. Last week my store informed me that I could only go through the line with one transactions. So… I get to run my transaction out to the car and come back for the next one. It makes for an interesting game…. I hope that this information has helped you somewhat. Enjoy! The game can be challenging but the rewards on our budget has been stupendous!!! THANKS CARRIE!!!!
Lisa — I’ve got my lists ready for tomorrow. This is a bit of a big week since there are a lot of good deals, but here’s what I’ve done:
-I start off making a list of the things I need that either aren’t a part of any deal (eggs, bread) or are a deal but don’t need coupons (the BOGO carrots). These are my fillers.
-There are certain things that obviously need to be grouped together to get the deal. One example of this is the cereal deal for this week (also, the Procter and Gamble deal, or the rice and pasta deal). So, I have 4 coupons to get the 5 boxes of cereal I want. That should get me to about $15 or so. That means two things: 1) I can use one more coupon in that transaction, and 2) I need about $10 more to get me to $25. So, I’d like Ritz this week and I have a coupon for $1/2. They are in the ad for 2/$5.50. That adds $5.50 to my total, and takes away my other coupon. So, now I need about $5 more to fill out my order. At this point I go to my list of fillers and choose things that cost about what I need to fill out the order. I will add in, say, 2 dozen eggs and 2 of the baby carrots. Transaction 1 complete.
-I will have gotten a coupon for a free milk from Transaction 1, so that is my first item on my list #2. I also want to do the rice and pasta deal this week. I will use 3 coupons for those 5 products. So, my total for those things so far will be about $9 or so (the milk, plus the rice and pasta). Again, I now have 2 more coupons to use. I might want some of the Tony’s pizzas. If I get those, that will use up my other 2 allowed coupons and bring my total up to about $15. I’m just guessing on numbers here. Then, I need $10 more to bring me to the $25. I will then get my bread, lettuce, apples, bananas, etc, to bring me up to $25. At this point I often go over the $25 because there are things I need that aren’t on sale (bread, produce, lunch meat, etc.), but I can’t really get around that.
-I usually bring my calculator in my purse to add up as I go so I know exactly how much I need to get to the $25 threshold.
I’m actually hoping to do 4 transactions tomorrow because there are so many good deals, but hopefully that will help you get started.
I’m pretty sure this makes me a dork, but I really enjoy doing this. I feel like it’s a big game of strategy, and the prize is our hard-earned $$$.
HTH!
-Rachel
Rachel – I find it interesting that you look at the list and see enough good deals to do four rounds through the line and I look at it and see no need to even go to Rainbow this week since there aren’t enough good deals on things I would use. Everyone has their own tastes I guess!
I have a $1.00 Jennie-O coupon from the State Fair that I’m planning to double. It’ll help make the meal deal better.
Nate — Mostly, my husband is pretty picky about his cereal and, even though we have a bunch in the basement, the ones he likes (Wheat Chex, Total, and MultiGrain Cheerios) are a great deal this week. I was able to find enough coupons (Thanks Carrie!) to probably do it 3 times. I’ll be getting the cereal almost free after the $5 off and the milk. We also use ton’s of rice and pasta so that’s a good one for us. Last week, however, I could hardly fill up one order. There just wasn’t much I wanted. It’s pretty wee-by-week for me. Some are great and some are duds.
Rachel – it was fun to read how you do your transactions, as it sounds exactly like how I do mine. So I don’t think you’re a dork. I think I’ll do the cereal deal and then just a bunch of other random coupons for a total of 2 transactions tomorrow. I don’t think I’ll do the P & G deal as I often get toiletries and that sort of stuff at CVS when you can earn ECBs and it sounds like some of the items may not work afterall.
Nate, it may also depend on if some people shop only for what they need right now and for those who stock up on good deals and save them. The rice/pasta deal is a good one for people who stock up – and for those who give to a food shelf. I don’t shop at Rainbow every week, but might go tomorrow for the P&G deal and stock up. I’m thinking of getting the Gillete Shave Gel, Gillette Body Wash, Gillette Deoderant, Dawn, Fabreeze, Iams and Cover Girl items – might spend $10 but will get $5 back.
Sarah Beth — good point. I still have some rice and pasta in my basement, but we go through so much of it that I just can’t pass it up when it’s this good of a price. I have an area in my basement just for storing mom-perishables that I can stock up on.
Allison — I’m not doing the P&G deal either. I have a few things, there isn’t much that we use that’s included, and I know they’ll do a similar deal next month.
It was fun to see you again Carrie on TCL. I am hoping to try out that deal idea!
Hungry-man dinners are on sale for $3 each, they also qualify for the $5 rebate wyb 5 which makes the net $2 each. Rebate is at therealmealdeal.com.
You know how you never pay for cereal or yogurt? Add pizza to that list> never ever pay for pizza> Palarmos was recently on sale 5 for $10.00. There are coupons on line for $1.00,= 5 pizzas w/ 5 $1.00 doubled equals free to me. that is just one example. i give about 50 pizzas away every month to the food shelves and they are thrilled to get them>
Hi Carrie!
Just wondering if you could clarify about Rainbow’s coupon pricing policy for me…. Do you use the sale price or the shelf price to reach the $25.00 threshold for doubling coupons? I have been using the sale prices and making sure that the total at the checkout is definitely showing $25 or greater before handing over coupons. Thanks for helping all of us save money!
Lucy – Most Rainbow stores use shelf price (at least they did two weeks ago, which is the last time I shopped), but some people report that their store uses sale price. The only way to know for sure is to try it based on shelf price once and see what happens.
Does anyone know for sure if the P&G deal rolls???
Here are my 2 P&G transactions for tomorrow (I have 2 inserts):
#1. 2 Gillette bodywashes $7.88
2 Gillette deodorants $7.58
8 cans Iams wet cat food $4.00
Dawn dishsoap $1.00
total $20.46
Coupons used = 2 “buy Gillette deo get bodywash free” (-$7.88), 2 $1/1 Gillette Deo (doubled = -$4.00), 2 $1/4 cans Iams cat food (doubled = -$4.00), 1 dawn dishsoap (- $.25, this will not double because I’m doubling another coupon for non-P&G product) = -$16.13)
Total OOP = $4.33 and I will get a $5 off my next purchase
#2. Iams dry cat food $7.99
Pampers $8.99
Pantene styler $3.50
total $20.48
Couons used = $5 off next purchase from transaction #1, $1/1 Iams catfood (doubled = -$2), $1.50/1 Pampers, $1/1 Pantene styler (doubled = -$2)
Total OOP = $9.98 and I’ll get a $5 off my next purchase
I will need to add a couple fillers to both transactions because my cashiers will not allow the coupons to double if the sale price is under $25.
Terri, where do you find the $1/1 Palmero’s Pizza? I can only find the $1/2. Still not a bad deal to get a pizza for a buck, but free is even better.
A few weeks ago, there was a treetop juice coupon $1/2. There are 3 packs of juice boxes for $1 (I think that’s the regular price), so you could get 2 three packs free with double coupon.
Thanks for the help everyone! I really appreciate it. Two things I love about this site – The whole site (thanks Carrie) and how everyone is sooooo helpful (thanks for the examples Anne and Rachel B).
Rachel – you are definitely not a dork! I do something similar to you except I use a spreadsheet to get started on how I might be able to split out my transactions. I leave a lot of room for writing when I print it out so I can change things around if needed. And I always have a calculator and scissors with me, too. I think I might be the dork!! =)
I’m planning on rice, pasta, pizza, yogurt, cereal, dawn, and coke products. I have 3 $1/1 for the coke so I’ll be getting that for 3/$4.98! I’ll buy the tilapia as filler as well as some produce and the free milk.
I’m skipping the P&G deal and using the Gillette coupons at Walgreen. I’m still undecided on the “Incredible Meal Deal”. Carrie makes a great point on this one.
Your Roundy’s card will only accumulate credit toward cheaper gas 8 times in a single day. Not that anyone would ever need to know that…. right? Ahhhh, and how do I know that?
OK, Crazy-sounding, I know, but I once (ONCE) had nine transactions in one day. And the bummer was that the last trip was my biggest total. The cashier, thankfully, did not glare at me, but went out of his way to figure out why the Roundy’s card wasn’t activating. That’s why I know.
I bring it up because today I have enough coupons to do the cereal deal five times (we have a large family and cereal exp. dates go w-a-y out). I stick REALLY close to $3 a box for this deal… And there may be more transactions, too.
OH, and Lisa, I don’t know if this was part of your question, but I do two well organized transactions per trip into the store. If there are more I need to do, I will bring my stuff to the car and go back in, or go to the store again later (like when I pick up the kids) or to a different store if the first one is out of a particular item.
I put the little bar between my orders/transactions on the conveyer belt and no one even blinks. I’ve asked about it a few times and the cashiers say, “No problem”. I’ve also done two (three once) in the self check-out, but that can actually be a bit harder… Either way, I keep the first transaction really small and simple so that the person behind me barely notices (don’t want to draw a lot of attention to myself or be annoying.)
I got $165 for $60 today! WooHoo!!!
Do the coupons double themselves if you do self-checkout? I’ve been afraid to try.
I live in milwaukee burbs…where can I find the p & G insert? milwaukee journal only has smartsource coupons…
Jenna – I self check all the time and my store requires a cust serv person (checker) to come over and do the coupons. They double automatically as that person enters them. They will double automatically too if you are allowed to enter them. not sure if your store allows that or not.
hth :)
AUUUGGHHHHHH!!
The rules of the game have changed again! Today I was told that the coupons that I printed out for the Yoplait Delights won’t be accepted. (I take out my color cartridge so I don’t waste the color ink on coupons.) The manager was called over, and I was informed that Rainbow does not get reimbursed from the manufacturer if the coupon is in only black and white. “They have to be printed in color, because a ‘halogen’ mark appears in color.” When I commented that the rules of the game have changed once again, they informed me that the news got to them only this morning, and no, they would not accept those coupons. Anyone else getting this response? Is it just my Rainbow? Perhaps I need to find another one!
This is odd – today I did the “$25 per” math in my head, but when it rang up my total was $20.67…. So I asked her to suspend the order and I grabbed a 99 cent/pound pork roast. (Again, big family so I can “fill” easier than most.)
But then I thought, “My math’s not off! It’s the $5 off that came off in the midst of the ring up.” (I did the cereal deal.)
According to Carrie’s recent email to Rainbow corporate, many people experience the doubling effect even when only the shelf price adds up to $25… but I don’t want to risk my coupons….
I don’t know if they would have doubled if I would have left it alone. Does anyone?
Helen – I bet money (well, not really) that your order would have doubled without the filler. That is exactly how I came to see that it was sale price not shelf price, because once I thought I had the math to get to $25, but looked at my subtotal and it was less than, but my coupons still doubled. Try it sometime and see what happens.
Hi Anne.
I shop at the Rainbow over in Riverdale (Coon Rapids) and haven’t had any problems. I do go later at night though (after 9pm) so maybe they are a little more laid back on the evening shift then they are during the day.
Anyway – I just called them to ask about their policy and they did confirm with me that they will accept internet coupons up to $1.00 to be doubled – she did not specify that they had to be printed in color.
Not sure how far away you are from Riverdale but might be worth your drive to have less of a headache.
One more note – when I go at night I always have the same cashier and she has never said anything about doing 2 transactions. I have yet to try more than 2 transactions though.
Jennifer,
Thanks for the info and the encouragement. I think next time I will try the Riverdale store. I’ve determined not to get frustrated, but today it is more of a challenge! Thanks again!
Dawn for $1 did NOT count toward my Procter and Gamble $20. I did not realize that until after I paid and left Rainbow without a $5 coupon toward my next purchase.
Anne, what store claims to not take B&W IPs? Thanks!
I just went to the St. Louis Park Rainbow today and was slightly disappointed that one of my coupons didn’t get doubled. I didn’t have more than 5 coupons but this was the one coupon that I had that said “Do not double.” I don’t know if Rianbow is changing their policy or if the cashier that I had was paying that much attention (I was tending to my son, so I was not). Anyone else have any experience with this???
Cath,
It’s the store just north of Northtown, in Blaine. I also asked this morning if I could go through with two transactions. I was told that if I want to use the double five coupons, no, they wouldn’t allow that on the second transaction.
Just FYI, I shop at the Chaska store and they’re pretty good there. There is one older lady who will go back and undo it if one that says “do not double” doubles, but most of them are super laid back and really nice about it. I’ve never had an issue going through with 2 transactions.
No trouble with the black and white web coupons in Richfield.
FYI – Did the GM cereal deal
Total Raisin 3.65
Multi Grain Cheerios 3.39
Reg Cheerios 2.99
Kix 2.99
Fiber One 4.19
Total 17.21
less $5 instant 12.21
less $6.50 for 4 doubled coupons = 5.71
I spend 5.71 and got a free gallon of milk too! If you factor it all in the final cost is 49 cents a box. I’d say that is an awesome deal!
Anne,
I shop at the Northtown Rainbow, too, and was quite upset this morning when I was given back $5 in black and white coupons. It messed up my whole plan!! When I got home I called the Riverdale Rainbow and was told that they still accept black and white. It’s a bit out of the way for me, but I will be making the drive to Coon Rapids on Wednesday’s. Just when everything is going along smoothly, someone throws a curveball!
Help – I’m starting to feel like an OCD hoarder! I went through Rainbow 4 times today. My cupboards, pantry, freezers and every little nook and cranny in my house are bulging with food, household, H&B, etc.. and every week I can’t pass up the deals. Some of my favorites this week were free Dreamfield’s pasta, free Emerald pecans and $1 Tony’s pizzas. I did both the P&G and cereal deals too. I’m going to work this week at getting organized. I would really like to be able to talk myself out of shopping for the rest of November, but its like a hobby for me and I’ve saved a ton of money.
Anne – that is really odd that an issue would be made of black & white coupons. Some people don’t have color printers, and it’s hard to believe they would be disqualified. I often use the option “greyscale” when printing coupons or anything else that doesn’t need to have the color because those cartridges are so expensive on our laser printer! I’ve never had any issue – including today at the West End Rainbow (St. Louis Park & Mpls border). I was also using the Yoplait coupons.
I was disappointed, though, they aren’t doing the 30% off Covergirl cosmetic sale. I had my stuff picked out, but was nervous that I saw no 30% off sale sign anywhere. I saw one of the Rainbow “co-directors” nearby and asked him about it. I had the ad with me, so he looked at it, and checked with another employee. She said that since they had “all the new Covergirl” stuff out, they weren’t participating. Oh well………… Would have been a really good deal if they had let me use the doubled $1 off coupon along with the get any face product free with the foundation I was buying!
LOL Joanna! Me too! Although, I’ve decided that after today, I think I really am going to try not to shop except for perishables for at least the next few weeks. I’m so blessed to be able to do that now, though. We’ve been getting several unexpected bills lately, so it’s really nice to know that i really only need to buy things like eggs, bread, milk, and produce, and I can feed my family for quite a while. We have tons of rice, pasta, pasta sauces, meat, frozen veggies, cereals, snacks, etc stocked up. I’m so glad!
Thanks Carrie!
Carrie-
Just found you today through common sense with money–great site and it looks like you have a great following of commenters who add a lot! I’ve been having fun reading through it all. Though I think our policies may differ a little, since I’m not in MN. I really hope my store keeps accepting B&W coupons–it really saves on ink!
I had thought the Meal Deal was good, (and I’m hosting TG AND Christmas this year!), but am now wondering if I should do it, after what you pointed out…not sure what I will decide. I always go shopping after dinner when hubby is home to watch the kids. We have 4 kids and it’s just easier to do multiple transactions without the distractions! :-)
And to those who thought they were dorks, NO! I had asked on my blog yesterday if anyone else gets excited about double coupon day!! :-)

I am always happy with double coupon day. It’s so rare that in MN to get anyone to double anything, makes me thrilled! I was happy with my deals today, and I shop in B. Park so I can go to Rainbow and then also to Cub across the street. At Rainbow was able to get free Dreamfield’s pasta, the Yoplait yogurt and an Asian Sensations egg rolls free, and what a good deal on the Lean Pockets at BOGO free, plus had a $1 coupon doubled off 6. Brought per box price down to .96.
At Cub, was able to get Wholly Guacamole free. It’s $1.50 this week and I had 2 expired $1.50 coupons. Also got 2 Freschetta pizzas for $2.99 each using expired $1 coupons and the boneless skinless chic. breast at .99, superb deals all around!
I can’t figure out why that one Rainbow won’t take coupons in black and white. That doesn’t make sense to me. People should have the option to print in b and w and still have their coupons accepted.
Just did my one transaction at the Roseville Rainbow – my b&w printables were accepted without a hassle… The cashiers all seem really nice and haven’t been giving me any trouble as long as its for the right products. I did the P&G deal with just the Pampers big box of diapers, Gillette Body Wash and Deoderant. Got the diapers for 17.99 since I had a $2 off coupon that was mailed to me and free body wash and the deoderant for 1.79 after coupons :). I also got the $5 coupon as a result but this is sneaky – it is not a printout coupon separately, but it is at the bottom of your reciept so look for it there and tear it off and put it with your coupon stash! Also got the c&h brown sugar for 80 cents, del monte green beans for 40 cents each, and 2 free yoplait delights. My additional items were the string cheese for a buck, fresh veggies and bananas and grapefruit, bakery buns, and the arnolds whole wheat bread for 1.50… Didn’t need too much this week! :)
I have really been debating going out today for the doubles. But, my addiction to bargain shopping keeps me going! Thanks for all the ideas everyone!
I hope my Rainbow doesn’t give me any troubles. I had a bad night last night at CVS and wanted to quit my couponing right then and there. And then this whole color only thing worries me. I shop in Shoreview so I hope things go well. I’ll come back and post my deals if I make it out tonight.
PS – anyone one else shop in Shoreview. Just curious of my competition! ;-)
Stacia ~ did you use your Roundy’s card? The register does not give you a coupon for the P&G deal – it puts $5 on your Roundy’s card. According to Carrie: “You must have a Roundy’s card to be eligible for this deal and items must be purchased in a single order.”
Check your receipt and let us know if you got it with the Dawn after-all.
Joanna- its not saving money if you spend a little on something you dont need. i too love the thrill but sometimes i need to say no. like how many pads does a pregnant women who will nurse need to stock up on? even if they cause 75% off with the deals, i am tempted but keep moving cause i know i have 20 at home collecting dust. oh another example, those glucose monitors you can get for free….i pass cause i just dont need one.
i still have cornish hens from 2 months ago in my freezer. they are something i would never buy but they were free after doubling. i couldnt resist. i guess i should cook em.
Anne, I just got home from that same Rainbow and had no problems with my B&W coupons?! I’d definitely call and speak with someone…
