Free Duracell Batteries from Staples

duracell

Edit Take Two:  Looks like the Sharpie deal is over even though it still being advertised on their site.

Edit: To get the markers fill your cart, get your order ready to purchase and then call Customer Service at 1-800-891-0195. They have to manually enter the code because of a technical problem on their site.  I had to hold for 20 minutes before getting through, but they were friendly and got it resolved as soon as I connected with a live rep.

Two awesome deals from Staples:

1) Free Batteries after Staples Reward (Ongoing through Christmas). Become a Staples Rewards member, then buy a 20-pack of Duracell batteries for $12.99, get $12.99 in Staples Rewards automatically (store credit you’ll receive in January). Limit is 2 packages per customer per week now through Christmas or up to 8 packages total!

If you routinely buy office supplies like toner, paper, or need a printer or desk chair, then it might be worth getting the store credit to use toward those purchases. This will be a significant out of pocket expense, but the credit will be nice after-the-fact, right?

2) Free Sharpie products (Cyber Monday only). Shop Staples.com and add $25 worth of Sharpies to your cart. Use code 96140 to get them totally free. There have been issues on and off with this code, so another option would be to order by phone at 1-800-891-0195.  With site to store shipping you’ll pay less than $1 to have the delivered to a local store. Not bad for $25 worth of markers!

The Sharpie deal would be awesome but it says the code is expired. Oh well, I guess.

  2. marie

good luck calling, I’ve been trying since 7:30am!

  3. Cath

Call the number that Carrie posted above. I got through immediately earlier this morning.

The code is not working online, you have to call. I *hate* calling places, but it really did go smoothly and the person on the line was friendly and knew about the deal, no explaining necessary. ;)

    Good luck!

  4. Melissa E

any luck on the calling? i’m having the same issue…

  5. Sara

All of the ones I wanted (the click pens) are out of stock. There doesn’t seem to be much to choose from on the site. Too bad!

  6. Terri Miller

I got through right away calling the customer service number listed when the coupon code didn’t work. I also got free shipping as it was my first purchase. Thanks!

  7. Chelsea

I had to call back a couple of times because I kept getting disconnected, but once it finally went through it was only a 10 minute wait or so. I ordered the $25 in sharpies and 2 packs of batteries. Pre coupon total was just over $50 so it qualified for free next day shipping. I hate calling too, but it was totally worth it for all the freebies.

  8. Tiffany Heeg

Does anyone know if you can have the batteries shipped to store to save on shipping?

  9. Joanna

I gave up on Staples. Everything I was adding to my cart was out-of-stock by the time I got to checkout. Good luck!

  10. Kimmerr77

I just did it in less than five min. Put everything in you cart and go through and pay for you order. Call the number and hit 1 for customer service (less the 1 min) tell them you coupon code is not working then they will ask for you order number. You will receive a credit on you credit card. Very easy. I ordered both on the same order.

  11. Melissa E

Hey Joanna – call the number Carrie provided above – I think Staples is having some inventory/qty issues in addition to their coupon code. I was trying to order the pink ribbon 2-pack and it kept telling me that it was OOS. However, I called the number above (don’t call the one on their site!!) and the CS woman was super nice, knew all about the problems, and told me that the pink sharpie still had lots of qty and added it to my order just fine. So – don’t give up on them just yet!! They’re super helpful b/c they want your business and know that they have a prob going on.

  12. Sara

Very frustrating – I too got the busy signal – and then I tried a different 800 number and have been on hold for over 45 minutes ………….. too bad they had the glitch with the code.

  13. Jennifer

I just tried calling – first time I got a busy signal – second time I got right through. It will go alot quicker if you have already entered your order all the way through until you get a confirmation #. They need that to credit your account back for the purchase amount.

Also, I opted for shipping to my local store so the shipping was FREE.

    Yea me!

  14. Traci

I called the number Carrie has posted and got right through, the lady was super nice and very helpful. Online it was showing all the assorted colors were out of stock but she looked a little deeper for me and found some. What a great deal!

  15. Tiffany Heeg

I signed up for the Rewards program- but it takes awhile to be activated- so I have to come back to do the battery deal. I was on hold for 30 mins but got my $26 of sharpies sent to a store for $1.03. I just worked on other things while on hold…not too bad.

  17. Jen

After waiting on hold for 28 min. I was told that they were no longer honoring that code…frustrating!

  18. Sara

They are NO LONGER honoring the coupon for the sharpies – finally got through.

  19. Andrea

DON’T BOTHER WASTING YOUR TIME ON THE SHARPIE DEAL! It is 9:59 a.m. in MN right now. I was on hold for over 57 minutes. Just told that the deal has been over for a long time, and that they are don’t nothing to compensate those that were on hold. I too had added everything to my cart and was frustrated that things were continuing to go in and out of stock. The woman on the phone was frustrating as well. Not helpful or understanding. I am sure she is having a tough day fielding all the calls, there is no reason to be rude to those people on the phone that have been waiting.

  20. marie

What a crock! I was on the phone with CS and as we were working on the code my sharpie items disappeared out of my cart!! And CS can do nothing. Since the order was in the middle someone else ordered and it pulled it from my cart and now it’s out of stock. Seriously!! I won’t be doing Staples cyber mess again! If you got this deal your one of the lucky ones.

  21. Ann

I just placed my order online and called customer service…got through in 7 minutes and he applied the code right off. Free shipping to store and paid 1.20 for several styles of markers. YAY!! Keep trying ladies.

  22. KJ

I called at 10:15 got through right away but the lady told me they were all out and the deal started yesterday.

  23. Katy

I had the same experience, the woman told me that the banner clearly stated the code was invalide after 10:30 today…then said it said “Sold Out” on the Sharpie deal. What on earth? It did *not* say sold out but the link was no longer live…and I think that stinks they pulled the offer early.s

  24. Erika

How can they say that the deal is no longer “valid” when it still says “$25 worth of Sharpie product FREE” on their website? Isn’t that a type of false advertising?

  25. Karen

I called customer service and they said they were no longer honoring the Sharpie deal. I pointed out that next to all the Sharpie products it has “Free up to $25″ but they wouldn’t budge.

  26. Stephanie

I just called the number, was on hold about 15 minutes, which isnt bad. They credited my account for the sharpies no problem and that was at 10:46 am central time. It was a little annoying because a lot of the sharpies are out of stock, I did have the lady check but she confirmed they were out. I deal with a lot of customer service places and I have to say this was one of the nicest/smoothest places I have dealt with.

  27. Erika

I just got off the phone with a very nice lady as well. She did mention that I had to put the order in and then she would try to credit my account (she said she wasn’t sure it would work because that deal has been over for awhile??)….everything worked as far as I know. I’m just waiting for the confirmation email to come so I can check on the credit. I did comment that their website does still say “$25 worth of Sharpie product free”. It was a very pleasant experience (maybe on hold for about 15-20 min)…ordered the batteries too. :)

  28. Michelle

You can also just place your order for $25 worth of Sharpies and call CS next week for a credit of the coupon amount. I placed my order yesterday and called today when there was no wait for an instant credit!

  29. Lynda

I also placed an order for the Sharpies just now and called the 1-800 number to get the $25 credit and was told that the offer is no longer available even though it is still on the website. I then promptly cancelled my order! This is the 2nd time in a year that I’ve had problems with their switching the price on an item and/or not honoring the promotion. I’ll gladly give my business to someone else.

  30. Rachel

I’m hoping they still honor the discount for me. I placed the order yesterday as soon as I saw about the deal. At that point, I called customer service and there was an automated message that said call back later in the week and they will credit the account. I’m going to try giving them a call this afternoon. If they don’t honor it, I’ll cancel my order.

I do think it is ridicules that the customer service people aren’t honoring the discount anymore, even though it is still posted on the website.

  31. Katie

I placed my order and called customer service and they credited my account. I then got an email from Staples to say they were out of stock and that they were cancelling my order “but my account will not be charged” Yeah for my free item! Needless to stay I am not happy with them or the way they handled this whole promotion. I will be calling and complaining.

  32. Rachel

I just called the number Carrie had posted above. I got through right away, and the gentleman I spoke with credited my account without any issues.

Maybe this is because I placed the order yesterday…good luck to the rest of you!

  33. Melissa E

FYI for any of you who ordered some sharpie products, but then received an email saying that one of your prodcuts is out of stock… I am on the phone w/staples right now and although the coupon isn’t valid, they will still credit your account for the amount you purchased. I’m not sure if they automatically do this, or if you have to call them and confirm.

Actually – they just told me that they are going to credit me for everything – including the tax – so EVERYTHING was free! Don’t give up on this store just yet…they’re trying! And, if you get a crabby, unhelpful rep, just ask to speak to a manager.

I promise you – I don’t work for Staples! :) I just think this is an awesome deal – but unfortunately they had some bugs that didn’t get worked out BEFORE they launched. And so, instead of blaming the company, just get some free stuff and be happy. :)

  34. Peter

Last night at about 8pm I went in to my local store with a printout of the sharpie deal and coupon code from the website and asked if I could use it in the store. They said that would not be a problem. The two guys at the register actually were very happy at how well it worked out for me because they were going to do the deal themselves after I left! Everything went so smoothly that I came back about half a hour later with my brother and we did the deal two more times (once each) and really stocked up.
Lots of quirks with this deal, but I made out well!

  35. Jess

Does anyone know if ebates or a site like that has Staples?

  36. sellit2us

Sounds great. I do buy quite a lot of office products, usually from Office depot of Office Max, We have a new staples a couple of miles away. I think I’ll check it out. Thanks for sharing.
