Carrie’s Picks: Sunday’s Coupon Inserts 11/15/09

coupons

There are three inserts in today’s Minneapolis Star Tribune, a Red Plum, a Smartsource and a General Mills. The coupons are great and I plan to pick up at least one more copy of the paper. Also note that there are coupons in the USA Weekend and Parade Magazines within the paper as well.  The best one there is a buy one, get one free on select Hasbro games.

I have highlighted my picks of which coupons will likely result in a freebie or a rock bottom price, then organized them by category and then alphabetically. These are based on the Minneapolis paper and other papers may have different coupons and different coupon amounts. You can see all my previous picks here. Keep in mind that coupons doubled in value could be great with just a regular sale too.

If you want more copies of these coupons there are a couple options. Get more copies of the inserts from friends, neighbors, co-workers, leftovers at coffee shops or libraries or a whole paper for $1 at most Dollar Tree stores (locations here). You can also order the specific coupons you want from The Coupon Clippers.

Your turn: Did you find coupons in the early edition of the paper on Saturday? The ones by my house were labeled to say they only including advertising inserts and there weren’t any coupons.

Everyday, Regular Priced Items

Buy the following products with a coupon from this weekend’s paper at their everyday price and you’ll get a great deal or maybe even a freebie.

Lipton To Go Tea. Last time I checked there are small packages of these to-go teas for under a buck at Target and Walmart. They could make a $0.50 stocking stuffer. (Red Plum)

Marcal Paper Products.Yippee! Another “Try Me Free” coupon for a single roll of paper towel, napkins, single roll of bath tissue or facial tissue. These aren’t sold everywhere, but I know Rainbow carries them. (If you use the $1/1 coupon when napkins go on sale for $2 at Rainbow, then you’ll get a second package free) (Smartsource)

Mars Candy Bars. Buy one, get one free. Can you say stocking stuffer? Half-priced is great, but CVS or Walgreens might run a buy one, get one free store sale soon and then we’d all get two candy bars free. (Red Plum)

Prevacid. A $4/1 coupon is fantabulously high value. Anyone know how much the smallest package of Prevacid is anywhere?

Snuggle. This $0.75/1 coupon does not exclude travel-sized items. Does anyone know if Target or Walmart carries a travel-sized Snuggle? (Red Plum)

St Ives Lotion and Body Wash. Many stores, including CVS and Target, carried travel sizes of these products priced right at $1 a few months back. They’d be free after this $1/1 coupon. (Smartsource)

Sale Priced Items

If these products go on sale before the coupon expires you will get a rock bottom price or maybe even a freebie. Peruse the coupons on the “coupons doubled in value” list below as well, since they could be included here too.

Advil, Dimetapp, Robitussin. Drugstores have awesome sales on these products all winter long. When you use high-value coupons like these you can get medicine for pennies on the dollar. (Red Plum)

Burt’s Bees. I hope to see some great promotions on Burt’s Bees products where we can use these coupons to get really nice, low-cost stocking stuffers and fillers for gift baskets. I don’t remember having seen Burt’s Bees coupons in the paper before. (Red Plum)

Colgate. This is my weekly statement that you won’t ever have to pay for toothpaste if you use $1/1 coupons like this alongside sales. (Smartsource)

De Met’s Turtles. If last year is a predictor, these will go on sale often and for cheap a number of times in the weeks ahead and this $1/1 sweetens the deal (Smartsource)

Duracell. This $2/1 Target coupon is fine, but if we see a great sale elsewhere (Target won’t likely have a rock bottom price on batteries, but others will) and can get it price matched, plus use a manufacturer-issued coupon, then maybe we’ll have a deal. Some CVS stores accept competitor’s coupons so that might be another route to try too? (Red Plum)

Gedney. If you are making a relish tray for Thanksgiving, then this $0.60/1 might come in handy. (Red Plum)

Kauakana Cheese. As a kid my dad at their Port Wine cheese spread on Keebler’s Club crackers like it was going out of style. There are very few coupons for this product so I’m glad to see this $1/2. (Smartsource)

Knorr Side Dishes. These often sell for a buck. Match that with this $0.50/2 and you have a pretty good deal. (Red Plum)

Ragu.$0.75/2 is the best coupon we have seen this season on Ragu and I’m glad to have another one. (Red Plum)

Stacy’s Pita Chips. In year’s past I’ve used $1/1 pita chip coupons alongside promotions at CVS and Walgreens to pick up pita chips free or close-to-free. It helps though, if you have multiple copies of this coupon.

Velveeta. Wow, a $1/1 Velveeta coupon. If your family loves this stuff, then you might want to track down some extra coupons because this is the highest value I’ve seen for it. (Red Plum)

Welch’s Sparkling Juice Cocktail. Yum! $1/1 is a great coupon for this. (Smartsource)

Coupons Doubled in Value

If you can shop at a store where the value of your coupon is doubled and these products go on sale before the coupon expires, then you will likely get a freebie or something close to it. In the Twin Cities Rainbow Foods is the only store I know of that regularly doubles coupons; check out their coupon policies here.

Betty Crocker Frosting. If we wait until this is on sale for $1 and then use this week’s $0.50/1 we’ll get free frosting. (General Mills)

Fisher Nuts. I LOVE these $1/1 any item over 4 ounces. Peanuts are included and they often sell for $2. I pick them up for nothing with these coupons. (Smartsource)

Goodlife Dog and Cat Treats. $1/1 doubled usually makes treats free or just $0.50 per bag. (Red Plum)

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Sticks. Would you believe me if I said that I almost never pay for margarine? I have $1/1 coupons like the one this week doubled and pick it up free when it is on sale for $2. (Red Plum)

Kraft Singles. With grilled cheese season upon us, this $1/2 Kraft Singles is great. I hope to see a fabulous price on cheese making it close to free with this coupon. (Red Plum)

Philadelphia Cream Cheese. I would expect to see cream cheese on sale for $0.88 – $1.00 throughout the holidays. With this $1/3 coupon it could be as low as $0.21 each after doubled coupon. (Red Plum)

Promise. Ditto my statement about I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter. Apply it to this $1/1 Promise Activ Spread coupon. (Red Plum)

Pedigree Bone and Treats. Ditto my statement about Goodlife dog and cat treats. Apply it to these $1/1 coupons. (Red Plum)

Tabasco Sauce. I heard somewhere that small bottle are relatively inexpensive, like $1.50 or less (??), which would make them cheap with this $0.60/1 coupon. For the hot sauce lover in your house you could use a small bottle as a stocking stuffer. (Smartsource)

Eating Out/Recreation

Baker’s Square. Buy one breakfast entrée, get one 50% off (that’s like getting each entrée at 25% off) and a 20$ off entire check, excluding whole pies and to go orders. (Red Plum)

Buca. $10 off $20 purchase. (Red Plum)

Chuck E Cheese. Various coupons. (Smartsource)

Green Mill. Various coupons including buy one, get one free. (Smartsource)

Honey Baked Ham Store. Various coupons. (Red Plum)

(I also posted this yesterday on the Open Mic page) I did not find inserts in the STrib yesterday (Sat) after checking several places. I called the STrib and the person I spoke with said there should have been an RR and SS in the paper yesterday, so they took my information and said they would send me a refund for the papers I bought with no inserts. The front page of the Sat paper doesn’t have the usual “$XX in coupon savings,” but does say “Valuable coupons inside.” Unless that means the few coupons in the Parade/USA inserts, it seems to me they’re advertising the coupons but not including them. I plan to call the Strib later in the week to confirm if indeed there should be the regular inserts in the next Sat paper before I waste my time trying to find them next weekend!

My Saturday papers had the Smart Source and Red Plum, but no GM, so I am glad to see your picks don’t include a lot of hot deals from that insert!

Sarah – this is an ongoing issue with the Saturday paper. I went to 3 Walgreens and 2 gas stations before I found papers with both coupon inserts.

none sell Marcal Paper Products around here (San Diego Ca) i love this post!! :))

For readers in the East metro: St Paul, Maplewood, etc. Where did you get your papers? I’m tired of running to 3 different stores to find no inserts in any of the papers.

  5. SarahBB

My head already hurts from trying to figure out all the great deals and combinations from sales and coupons– gonna need a lot of help from PYD this week!!

  6. Kari

I went 3 places before I found Saturday’s Strib with inserts. Even then it was only the Red Plum one. It was only 50 cents but it’s not worth it for me to drive to 3 different stores every Saturday. I’ll have to just stick with my PP home delivery.

  7. Jenny

My paper had the RP and SS inserts, plus 2 GM inserts? I’d be frustrated too! I hope you guys can find them. I wonder why the STrib has such a problem with getting the inserts in their papers?

  8. Annette

    Carrie,
are there any hidden coupons in the Sunday paper that would not have been in the early Sat. edition? Or anyone else who knows?

  9. Lisa

Did everyone notice the coupons in the Parade and USA Weekend mags? $2 any Glade fragrance/candle, B1G1 Hasbro card games, and various others!

  10. Maria Esmeralda Lopez

the smallest Prevacid is $10.99 at Target this week, I think!

For the last two weeks at Rainbow Foods, the small bottle of Tabasco has been on sale for $1.20, so with the $0.60/1 coupon, it would be free. But, of course, I’m not sure how long the sale will go for the Tabasco.

I am wondering if target is still running that promo for the glade candles. Also I seen them at Walmart for 2.25 and the 1.50 cpns were inside the tins.

The early Sunday edition of the Mpls paper is a great deal. I’ve bought it 2 or 3 times since it started and It has all or nearly all the coupons of the full Sunday edition. Yesterday’s early Sunday had all coupons except the General Mills flyer. Talk about hidden coupons: both editions contained two different mini- magazines, Parade and USA today, and both had great coupons: Glade candles $2.00/1), Hasbro card games (bogo), Viva towels (.50/1), Nivea Body Wash ($1.00/1). (I think there were two more, but I’m staring at my stack of unfiled coupons and its kinda tough to tell which came from where!) Never knew those inserts had coupons!

  14. Val

I picked up an early Sunday edition at Walgreens yesterday, and it only had one section, a Redplum, for coupons. In comparison, my delivered Sun paper had a Redplum, and SS and the GM one. The Redplum in the Walgreens bought paper was much smaller in size than the Redplum in my delivered Sun. paper.

  15. Brook

My delivered Sunday paper only had a Red Plum! :(

  16. Becky

I only got the Red Plum inserts, too. This is getting ridiculous! Since they started with the early Sunday edition, I think there’s only been one week that I’ve been able to find a paper with all the coupon inserts. I also was missing my Cub ad, although that’s not a huge deal since I can get a copy at Cub. Getting extremely annoyed about all the missing coupons, though…

  17. Karen

The ads and coupon inserts are generally stuffed on Saturdays by groups working on fundraising – if the Sunday paper delivered to your home is missing something, I would suggest contacting the StarTrib so they could follow up with the organization that was working on those papers.
