Aldi Shopping List 11/15 – 11/21/09

This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Aldi has some great prices on produce this week, based on the Minneapolis/St. Paul sales flyer. Aldi’s prices are very regionalized, so prices at your store may vary. I left off most of the boxed and canned items because you can pick up similar name brand items with a coupon for the same price or less at the grocery store this week.

If you’ve never shopped at Aldi bring a quarter (not 25 cents, but a quarter) for the refundable deposit on your cart and your own bags. They take cash or debit card, but not credit card. Find an Aldi near you.  Remember that their produce is ripe for eating when you buy it, so be prepared to eat it, freeze, can it or otherwise use it up right away.

Produce

Sweet Potatoes. $0.33 per pound (sold in 3 pound bag).  I stock up at this rock bottom price and make a bunch of mashed sweet potatoes (bake the potatoes until tender, scoop out inside, mash) and freeze them in one-meal portion sizes for a quick side dish.

Pineapple. $1.49. The last pineapple I got was huge and very sweet.

Cranberries. $0.99 for 12 ounces.

Celery. $0.69.

Garden Salad in a Bag. $0.99 for iceberg lettuce variety.

Your turn: What else are you picking up at Aldi in preparation for the big Thanksgiving meal?

Thanks Carrie, I’ll be sure to stop at Aldi this week. I love your sweet potato idea and am pleased to see a reasonable price on cranberries. I have found the price of butter to be the best at Aldi so I’ll pick mine up for baking etc. while I’m there.

I agree. The last pineapple we had from Aldi was amazing!!!

Last month I went to put my quarter in the cart and there was a quarter already in the slot. It put a smile on my face, so now I always leave my quarter in the cart for the next guy…makes me feel good as I know it’ll put a smile on someone elses face as well!

Wow! I was pleased with the price I found last week on sweet potatoes at Aldi. This is fantastic! I bake ours and puree to add instant (and invisible) veggies to many dishes. I also puree squash and broccoli to have in the freezer as well. In fact- the sweet potatoes and broccoli purees combined together into any tomato based recipe are fantastic- and the kids are getting a wonderful vegetable packed meal without even knowing it. We still serve veggies on their plates too with their meal though). Such a great website Carrie. THANK YOU for all of the awesome information!

Aldi (Northtown) everyday prices if you are not brand loyal:

100% Whole Wheat Bread (1st ingredient is whole wheat flour) – $1.69
    Mayonnaise – 1.89/32 oz
    “Miracle Whip” – 1.69/32 oz

I’m curious what people like to make with whole cranberries?

  7. Karin says:

    @Sarah Beth
I put a bag of whole cranberries (washed) in the food processor with a whole orange (washed and cut up), sugar to taste. Makes a yummy cranberry relish for turkey (and yogurt and pita chips and …)

  8. Stephanie Chaple says:

Unless the sweet potatoes are very close to being over the hill, they should keep in the cupboard for some time like white potatoes would. I store mine this way with satisfactory results.
