Did my shopping tonight at Maplewood Rainbow. I had a very coupon scrutinizing cashier. He told me I could not use a mfg. coupon that was printed at Cub. I told him that it only says “redeemable at Cub” not that you have to use it there. He then scanned it and it worked. Surprise, Surprise. He also eyed every coupon and checked to make sure I had the exact products. This took a while because I did have 5 transactions which they do let you do at this store. I am very organized and the transactions run smoothly-usually.

Then, I tried to use the $5 Zantac coupon on a box that cost $4.69 and he had to get help and the manager said I could not use the coupon on anything less than $5. I asked if they could bring the coupon down to match the price and she said no. Anyone else been able to use this coupon?

Well, I was disappointed at the Cottage Grove Rainbow tonight. For the first time the cashier told me she could not double coupons unless the out of pocket is more than $25. I told her the new policy has cost them my business. I just don’t see how doubling makes alot of sense if I have to shell out $25/5 coupons. It’s frustrating to work so hard at this and not have it pay off like it should.

You do have to be so careful with the Progresso soup sale this week. I spent a lot of time choosing 3 cans because they were out of many of the sale varieties. In spite of being so careful to get only the ones on sale, two of them rang up at $2.59 and I didn’t catch them until I got home. I know I got them from the marked “row”, so either Rainbow’s cash register messed up or more likely, a customer put them in the wrong spot. After all that, I got my Sun-Sailer with a Byerlys ad. Many varieties of their Progresso soups are on sale starting tomorrow for $1.10 per can! I will probably return the 3 cans I bought at Rainbow, but now I wonder if I can get another $1.10 off 3 cans coupon!!!

I forgot I had one of those $1 off any purchase catalinas in my purse and today was the last day I could use it. Remembered about it out in the car parking lot and went back in the store. I asked the cashier about it, could I still get my money for it, and she was glad to give me my $1. Too bad, though, because I could have gotten it doubled today if I had remembered about it prior to doing my transaction..
I got 2 4 packs of the Activia vanilla flavor for free and a free 32 oz of plain Dannon, which I will stir some fruit into. My son, who is autistic and can be food-picky, only likes the vanilla Activia. He won’t eat the Activia with fruit flavors. It’s nice that you can get some free yogurt on a regular basis by watching the sales and using coupons! Now I can’t make myself “pay” for yogurt anymore.

Nothing worth buying for me. I already have plenty of yogurt and I don’t get cereal for more than $1.00 and it’s usually less than that.

I only did one transaction today at Rainbow and I believe that’s a first. Some of my favorite cheapies were the Emerald Nuts bogo at $5.99 and I used two $1 off coupons which doubled bringing 2 cans of cashews down to $1.99 for 2. Same deal with bogo Jose Ole Quesadillas.

One more thing: Is there a catalina deal going on right now with Pillsbury? I bought four crescent rolls (on sale for $1.66, used 4 $1/1 coupons) and received a $2 printout coupon for my next order from Pillsbury. I’m not sure if the coupon was linked to this deal, but I’m pretty sure that’s the only Pillsbury purchase I made.

@Anne: Very strange. I always do two transactions at my Rainbow (Maple Grove) and have never had a problem. Today, my cashier was very helpful and informed me of the minimum $25 purchase and the 5 coupons/transaction limit (both of which I already knew about, but it’s good to know that the cashiers know!).

Anne – Wow. That’s really unfortunate. I hope the managers aren’t putting that additional burden on cashiers to keep track of customers coming through the line more than once. If it’s their new policy, they should really have a big sign at the front door saying that each customer can only take advantage of the doubled coupons once. A cashier shouldn’t be worried about her job because you went through her line more than once!

Yes, buying a Rainbow gift card will count towards the $25. I have had to do that a couple of times too rather than buying candy I don’t need at the register!

Well, the rules to the game have changed at my Rainbow – by Northtown. I was informed by my cashier that they can only do one transaction per customer now…. Not two at a time like I had been doing. So, I purchased the first transaction, parked my cart with the second transaction still in it, ran my first purchase to the car, came back, grabbed my cart and stood in the back of the line again. Had to come back in two more times to finish out the four transactions. The cashier was pretty shook up and informed me that I really should spread out my purchases among the cashiers so she wouldn’t get into trouble and lose her job. (I did, only went to her two out of the four times.)
