I am homeschooling my 5-year-old daughter and we do sight word games in addition to a phonics curriculum. This site has a lot of great sight word games (as well as their own printable flash cards, divided into smaller lists by frequency):

If anyone is looking for an entirely free phonics program to teach their child to read, http://freereading.net has tons of lesson plans, printables, games and more. I already purchased a program that had a lot of features I was looking for, but this one looks great if you don’t mind spending the time to print things out.

There are so many free education/homeschooling resources out there…this just barely scratches the surface. Between the library and an internet connection I think it would pretty much be possible to homeschool a child without spending anything out of pocket (other than ink and paper).
