Free Panda Internet Security 2010 (October 22 Only)

panda security

If only I had known about Panda Internet Security last summer.  I think it would have spared me the hours of stress I experienced (while on vacation) when my website got hijacked in August. My husband’s laptop had a malware infection, while we thought we were protected with a to-remain-nameless anti-virus software.  The IT guy that fixed it said his top-rated pick for internet security software is Panda.  Well guess what, Panda is free tomorrow!

To coincide with the launch of Windows 7, Panda Internet Security is making a one-year subscription to its service totally free for the downloading.  I cannot tell by what’s on their site right now if they will request a credit card number, in which case the license will probably auto-renew and you’ll be charged down the road.  I don’t normally post any deals like that charge you down the road, but because this particular software came so highly recommended to me, I am sharing the love with you and warning you to read the fine print.

Can you guess what I’ll be doing at 12:01 tonight?

Your turn: Did you have to enter a credit card number with this deal?

Carrie, I’m so sorry – I still owe you that list of free computer software. Including anti-virus and anti-spyware. If I had to guess, I’d guess the unnamed antivirus would be Norton, which one of my former coworkers called a virus itself…!

Being in IT, I can vouch for what the other guy told you. Panda has a wonderful reputations.

However, there are free packages if you miss out on Panda’s or don’t want to provide a credit card number. On every PC I support for my family and friends, I always install the free version of AVG antivirus, and I usually install the free version of ZoneAlarm as well. I also lately have been installing either SuperAntiSpyware or MalwareByte’s antispyware. Each of those applications serves a different function: antivirus, antispyware, and firewall. Put them together and you have what Norton, McAffee, Panda, ZoneAlarm, and all the others sell for $60 or more a year as an Internet Security Suite.

I think you can download all the applications I listed at CNet’s http://www.download.com.

No, it does not as for a credit card number, but it does make you uninstall any other security you may have on your computer. Which I was fine with because one of mine is outdated and cannot be renewed, but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to uninstall it! Thank you so much for this deal!

  3. Toni P. says:

No credit card was needed to get the download link. However, I haven’t received the activation code yet, so I’m not totally sure if you need it when registering your copy. I’m pretty sure you don’t need it, though.

  4. Paula Kellogg says:

Okay, so you do sooo need the Activation code. I didn’t wait to get it, I just started installing it, and now I’m unprotected until I get the code. Which can take up to 4 days.

  5. SarahBB says:

Can take 1-3 days for activation code to be emailed

  6. SarahBB says:

Oops, I thought I could have Panda in conjunction w/my McAfee security– it wont download Panda w/McAffee–so I kept my 3 yr Mcafee service– darn!

Thanks so much for the info. Especially the IT people saying how great of program it is. I also have had problems with other virus protection programs. Carrie you do a great job!!!
