This deal has expired and may no longer be valid.

Thanks to Xcel Energy, select retailers are selling CFL light bulbs for just $1.  Regular-priced they cost anywhere from $3.oo – 6.00, which makes this quite a deal. Find a participating retailer here. It looks like this program is only available in areas that are serviced by Xcel Energy, which includes Minnesota and Colorado for sure.

Site says “for as little as a $1″
Can anyone confirm that any place is actually selling for $1?

  2. Mitch says:

Thanks for the information but a better use of that dollar would be to buy four or six incandescent light bulbs. Combined they last longer and are still cheaper than a CFL light bulb and they are better for the environment once you take into consideration the manufacturing of them. You are also supposed to take them to get recycled as they contain mercury.

  3. Carrie Rocha says:

JC – The bulbs start at $1 and then go up from there, but assuming they are still in stock, the participating stores should have some that are $1. Hope that helps!

  4. Kristine says:

I did a search on Xcel’s site for locations near me that are participating and called ACE Hardware in Maple Grove, which was the first store on the list. They said their bulbs have varying prices but did confirm that they sell bulbs for $1. Hopefully there will be some left by the time I can make it there!

    Thanks for clarifying Carrie

I bought some at Ace in White Bear Lake a couple of weeks ago, they have you fill out the rebate right there and they send it to Xcel, So they get the money from Xcel, you just pay $1 or more for the bulbs depending on which ones you buy, I think it was a limit of 12.

  7. Jodi says:

My husband is doing something with a reimbursement in Shakopee. I don’t do that part of the shopping, but you may want to look into it. He said it would be about 7 cents per bulb.

  8. Sharon says:

I think the lady at the checkout summed it up… it is $1.50 off each bulb. So if you buy the 60 watt for 2.49 and take off the 1.50 you will pay 90 cents. The three-way I bought was 8.49 after the discount. They also were taking names for the bulbs that they were out of stock on…

I just purchased 12 for 12.70 including tax at Ace Hardware. Seems like a deal to me. We will see if my electric bill goes down.

  10. Jill says:

I did the same thing @ ACE in Mpls (Nicollet & 38th). They said the limit was 12…. I had no problem getting them for a dollar- and my receipt showed a sale of $3-4.00 off each one! :)
