Walgreens Shopping List 8/23 – 8/29/09

 walgreens

You can pick up a couple of freebies and with the right coupons actually “make money” (get more back in Register Rewards than what you spend) in a case or two.  If you are new to shopping at Walgreens, read this to get started. This post will tell you how to read this shopping list. If you want more copies of any of the coupons I mention, try picking them up at The Coupon Clippers.

Mercedes at Common Sense with Money helped get this list started and I added to it based on the forum at A Full Cup (and I checked all the deals against the coupons we received locally).

Attention Walgreens shoppers: Register Rewards are actually a coupon and on the top it is specified “store coupon” or “manufacturer’s coupon.” In my experience (others chime in) you cannot use a higher number of manufacturer’s coupons than you have individual items in your order. For instance, you cannot use three manufacturer’s coupons to buy 2 items. An important thing to keep in mind if you plan to only buy a few items.

Your turn: Have you ever inadvertently tried to use too many coupons on a single transaction like I mentioned above? What happened and how did you resolve it? (Hopefully we can all learn from each other’s mistakes) Also, anything else you know about the way that manufacturer-issued Register Rewards work would be helpful for us to know too.

    Hi-
At the front door of Walgreens is a Back-2-School coupon book. There is $1.00 off Poppycock, along with this week’s .75, makes Poppycock .24 Yum!

  2. Jennifer

FYI – the coupons from the activity coupon book do NOT need to be surrendered to the cashier. They are WAGS coupons, and they just throw them away anyway.

  3. Jean

I looked for that activity book last week but was unable to find it. I even asked an employee and she didn’t know either. I was at the Shakopee store. Can anyone describe a little more about the book, what picture is on the cover ?

  4. Jolene

The Poppycock isn’t $1.99 until Wednesday.

  5. Melissa

Gillette fusion razors are now on clearance for 2.29 making them .29$ after the 2.00$ off coupon in the 8/16 sunday circulars cant remember which one it was.

  6. Susie

I have a question. Wags has an in store coupon for Dawn Dish Liquid for $.99, I have a coupon for $.50 off 1. Can I just go in and use these 2 coupons on just 1 soap or do I need to get a filler? or does that apply to the RR only?

Also, side note I went to get the tylenol today and it only let me use 1 $2 coupon, since it was BOGO.

  7. Penny

I’m not finding the Barilla Pasta coupon? are the inserts different for the pioneer press and star trib?

  8. Sarah

Sad – all the Rimmel mascaras are more than $7.00. It’s still a decent deal, but not as decent as 9 cents!

  9. Jennifer

Jean- some store has the activity books, some don’t. I found mine in the pharmacy in a display. I’ve only seen in the in about a third of the stores I go to.

  10. Tiff

My store has them right up at one of the registers…it looks like a kid’s coloring book…the store associate didn’t know where they were…even though he was standing 5 feet away from it!

  11. megan

When I had too many coupons the cashier just had me grab something cheap to use all my register rewards. I think I bought a clearance eyeliner for $.50. and was able to use my $5.00 rewards. Not a bad deal.

I haven’t seen any of the blogs list the All 2x laundry detergent – a 96 load bottle for only $9.99, plus there were $2 manufacturer coupon in one of the Sunday inserts a few weeks ago. $7.99 for a huge bottle of All is an awesome deal!

Susie – yes, you will be able to buy 1 dawn using both the Walgreen’s coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon. They don’t count the Walgreen’s coupon, when they are adding up items and coupons. Make sure your .50 coupon is good for the Dawn they have on sale for .99. My .50 coupon says good for only “Dawn Plus” and I think its just the regular Dawn that on sale. I hope all this makes sense.

Penny – I found out by reading this blog and by trial and error that your best Sunday paper for coupon inserts is the Star Trib subscription.

If you’re missing older coupons for the Listerine Agent Blue, I was able to find a ‘bricks’ printable via the listerine kids website for $1/1. http://www.listerinekids.com/coupons.jsp

  14. Susie

    Thanks, I will double check.

  15. PikaPikaChick

Not seeing the Barilla coupons either. Very sad. I was ready to get my pasta on.

I tried to get all of Carrie’s deals at wags this a.m. and was only partially successful. The ‘not -so-nice cashier’ only let me use one of the tylonel coupons because it was bogo , same with the chinet plates . My wags didn’t carry the reach toothbrush shown in the ad , the manager subbed another basic reach t.b. It took 3 tries AND a manager to get the correct mailing envelopes. I’m thinking wags tries to make couponing difficult , between sale items not marked on shelves and the surly employees. If I didn’t save so much I’d never put up with it. I’m really interested to hear if anyone else has experienced similar things.

    Sarah,
After having difficulty at Walgreens with using combos of RRs and regular MCs, and having the store manager express his extreme “dislike” of the RR program, I called Walgreens central customer service number to get the scoop on RR ettiquite. I wanted to know if I was welcome to use RR on items I had coupons for. I didn’t want to feel like I had to sneak around to different stores or be known as “the crazy coupon lady”. The woman from Walgreens central said she is also a huge couponer and couldn’t herself afford to shop at Wags without coupons and RR. She assured me Walgreens is very pleased to have a new market of shoppers in their stores, and I should use all the coupons I can when I shop there. 15 minutes later, I received a phone call from the store manager at my local store with an apology for the rude service from her assistant manager. She did tell me that they will be clarifying the policies that are already in place (total coupons cannot exceed items purchased and customers must pay sales tax out of pocket). She apologized for the confusion this has caused many customers. She, too, said the RR program has brought many new shoppers to Walgreens.

  18. Jenny T

Another great deal this week. Use the BIGI coupon for the Oral B Indicator toothbrush and you get $2 RR back. The total was $2.78 with tax before the RR printed so it was like getting two toothbrushes for $0.78! Great deal!!

  19. Maria

Penny – I recently signed up for Star Trib Sunday only and got it for $1 each….call the subscription desk and ask what deals there are for Sunday papers.

Oh my goodness – I got amazing deals at Walgreens today.

    1st Trip
    90 load All detergent – $9.99 – $2 (MQ) = $7.99
    Advil & Thermacare $10.48 – $3 (MQ) = $7.48 ($4 RR)
    2 boxes Frosted Flakes $5.00 – $1 (MQ) = $4.00 ($2 RR)
Goody Ouchless Headband $2.99 ($2 RR)
    Used $5.00 off $25 coupon
Total was $18.46 and I received $8 in register rewards
This was just okay, but the cashier was really impressed.

    2nd Trip
    2 doz. eggs .99/ea = $1.98/2
    4 keebler cracker/cookie products $10 – $2 (MQ) = $8.00 ($5 RR)
    3 puffs tissues .89/ea = $2.67 – .25 (MQ) = $2.42/3
    2 Glade Fabric 2/$5.00 – 2.50 (bogo MQ) = $2.50/2
    2 CG eyeshadows (BOGO1/2 off) = $5.24 – $2.50 (MQ) = $2.74/2
    3 Dawn dishsoap .99/ea = $2.97 – $1.25 (MQ) = $1.72/3
    2 Glade 2 oz. soy candles $3.49/ea. = $6.98 – $6.98 (2 MQ FREE) = FREE
    3 Poppycock 1.99/ea = $5.97 – $3 (Walgreens Q) – $2.25 (MQ) = .72/3
I used the $5/25 Walgreens coupon and I used the $8 RR from the first trip and
    my total was $13.59.

I handed the cashier the $5 off coupon first, my Register Rewards next, then the Walgreens coupons and finally the manufacturer’s coupons. I received the $5 RR for the keebler deal and the transaction went off without a hitch. I think the key is reading the fine print on the register rewards and not handing the cashier all your coupons, etc. at once. An excellent day at Walgreens! Sorry this is so long, but hey, I’m excited!

  22. Jennifer M.

I got the Advil & Thermacare using $3 off Thermacare found at http://www.thermacare.com/trythermacare/default.aspx
and a $1 off Advil found at
    http://www.advil.com/alladvil/toughonpain.asp
and got the $4 RR. After coupons & RR I paid $2.48 ($1.24 each). Pretty good deal!
