Carrie’s Picks: Coupon Inserts 8/23/09

coupons

There were two inserts in today’s paper, a Red Plum and a Smart Source. It is slim pickings, but these are my picks of which coupons will likely result in something free or nearly free.  Items are grouped into three categories, based on when I think they could result in a rock bottom price or a freebie.  I also mention the eating out/recreation coupons that were in the Twin Cities’ inserts.

If you want more copies of these coupons there are a couple options. Get more copies of the inserts from friends, neighbors, co-workers, leftovers at coffee shops or libraries or a whole paper for $1 at most Dollar Tree stores (locations here).  You can also order the specific coupons you want from The Coupon Clippers.

Everyday, Regular Priced Items

Buy the following products with a coupon from this weekend’s paper at their everyday price and you’ll get a great deal or maybe even a freebie.

Bounce Dryer Bar. The $1.50 Target coupon from the paper can be used alongside the $2.50 manufacturer-issued coupon that was sent recently to Vocalpoint members. From what I can tell online about prices a 2 month bar should be free when you use both of these. Keep in mind that CVS and some other stores accept competitor’s coupons, so you could potentially pick one up elsewhere too.

Oral B Toothbrush. Buy one, get one free.

Cottonelle SoothingClean Wipes. Buy one, get one free.

Glade Scented Oil Candles. Buy Candles, get refill pack free.

Glade Sense & Spray Starter Kit. There usually are high-value coupons for starter kits because if the manufacturer can get the product into your house (even if you don’t pay for it), then you will buy their refills.

Sale Priced Items

If these products go on sale before the coupon expires you will get a rock bottom price or maybe even a freebie.

Dove Chocolate. This is a Target-issued coupon and if a manufacturer-issued coupon comes out soon they can be used together. Candy will be on sale a lot leading up to Halloween, which is when I stock up and bring it into my office to replenish the candy jar on my colleague’s desk. (Before this post they didn’t know I get the candy nearly free)

Bic Multi-Purpose Lighter. If I remember correctly, CVS and Walgreens often run sales on these at the same time the manufacturer-issued coupons are out. Let’s hope so since I need a new one for my grill and its faulty auto-ignite.

Schick Razors and Refills. Yet another $4 off coupon.

Coupons Doubled in Value

If you can shop at a store where the value of your coupon is doubled and these products go on sale before the coupon expires, then you will get a rock bottom price or maybe even some freebies.  In the Twin Cities Rainbow Foods is the only store I know of that regularly doubles coupons.  Check out their coupon policies here.

Quaker True Delights. Last year I got tons of free granola bars when these $1 off coupons were doubled in value, but I haven’t seen a sale price lower than $2.50 for quite sometime. Let’s hope that as the seasons change and we get into the fall deals that better sale prices will return.

Eating Out/Recreation

Subway. $5 Meals. That’s a bargain for lunch out.

Your turn: What other deals are you planning to get with the coupons from this weekend’s paper?

reese’s for sure. i found a package at walgreens that had an extra cup or 40% more free. they were 80 cents and i had the bogo so its like getting buy one get two.

and the tylenol 2 dollars are great if you use them at walgreens bogo and 2 coupons gets you 25 cents each.

  2. Michelle says:

Bic Multipurpose Lighters are on sale at Rainbow this week for BOGO free. Combined with the coupon, this is a great deal. Maybe you could even double the coupon on Wednesday.
I also saw the Quaker True Delights on sale at Target this week for $2.74. Not a great sale price, but it’s not bad when using the coupon, too.
Cottenelle wipes are on sale at Target for $2.24 each. When used with the coupon, that would be $1.12 for each box. If you have register rewards to use up at Walgreens, they have them on sale 2/$5, so that isn’t a bad deal either.
Thanks for the tips! I can’t wait for my next bargain!

Where was the $1.50 Dove coupon located? I have some manf. coupons that I would love to combine with it. Thanks!

  4. Kara says:

The Dove manufacturer’s coupon was in last week’s coupon inserts in the Star Tribune. It was for $1.00 and expires at the end of October. (I think it was last week’s – I didn’t get to it until yesterday when I was going through all of the coupons I had). My chocoholic husband will be happy with these and the Reese’s coupons.

The Dove chocolate coupon was in the Red Plum insert

I have gone back and doubled checked my Smartsource insert and I think I am missing pages :( I thought the cover looked atypical and now it seems like a bunch of pages fell out. That is why I missed some of the coupons. Can you all fill in the blanks for me on other hot coupons?

  7. Jennifer says:

Carrie-I thought just the early edition paper usually the St. Paul had less or different coupons than the Minneapolis edition but I noticed last week that the regular Sunday paper has diferrent coupons if you buy the St. Paul Pioneer Press instead of the Minnneapolis Star Tribune. Do you know why this is? Or does anyone else? I try on Sunday to get my papers at the dollar store if I am by one because they have the Minneapolis papers for $1 instead of a $1.75.

  8. SarahBB says:

Target has a $2.00 off coupon on Stayfree tampons, they are also on sale this week there, and there is a manf. coupon .75C off this week in one of the paper inserts.
