Two quick things: First, check the toy department for items on clearance at 50-75% off. Late July and late January are typically when you’ll find the best clearance prices on most things. Second, I have heard eggs are on an unadvertised special, 30 eggs for 99 cents. Think potato salad, egg salad sandwiches, and quiche as an easy dinner (make extras to freeze for later).
Before you go wild with the toys, buying ahead for birthdays and Christmas, remember the number one rule of getting out of debt. Only buy what you can afford. Period. Yes, it will hurt, but suck it up. Being free from financial worries is worth the temporary sting of homemade gifts and scaled back birthdays. Ask me how I know.
Your turn: Other stores likely have deep clearance sales right now too? Where else have you spotted items at 75% off or better?

Very wise!
I found 100 pack of CD-R on sale for $12.99 today — regular price $ 24.99 . Others and DVD- RW are also on sale.
I’m hoping to check the toy section with hopes of finding some things I can buy cheaply now and save for my Operation Christmas Child boxes. School supplies will be bought cheaply too, for the same reason of Christmas Child boxes, even though my kids are adults now.
Thanks for the tip on the clearance toys. I would generally forget about that since I don’t have little kids.
I’ve been buying a ton of toys on clearance between Kmart a few weeks back and Target. Last year I spent WAAAYY too much on Christmas presents, not this year. Plus I picked up a bunch of stuff for our Toys for Tots drive at work (75% off woohoo).
Plymouth Target had a rack of toddler t-shirts on 75% off– two girls styles for $1 and one boys style for $0.75.
This weekend, Borders Rewards members new and old (FREE to join) can use the super coupon for $2 off any kids book, magazine, and/or fiction book and $5 off any cookbook, CD, and/or DVD. There are other options – there are just the best ones.
Little Golden books list price $2.99 – $2.00 = $0.99
Family Circle magazine list price $1.99 – $2.00 = FREE (they do not give overage)
Thomas and the Magic Railroad DVD list price $7.99 – $5.99 = 2.99
The Everyday Chicken Cookbook (make sure to grab it from the main shelf, not the bargain book shelf) $4.99 – $5.00 = FREE
There are many CD’s in several different genres with lsit prices between $5.99-$6.99.
The discount comes off the list price even if the item is on sale and bargain books are not eligible.
Have fun shopping!
Angela
I was in the Champlin Target today (8/1) and they did not have eggs for .99.
the KMart at 7 and 101 in Minnetonka is going out of business. So far, its only at 20-30% off of most merchandise….the jewelry is I think 80% off….its early days of the clearance (they’ve got back to school stuff too) the prices may come down further. Fixtures are for sale as well if thats something you need….
