Most major booksellers offer incentives to keep kids reading this summer including:

Barnes and Noble.  Barnes and Noble Summer Reading 2009 rewards kids with a coupon for a free book when they read eight books of their choosing. Kids can read any eight books, whether from the library or ones you already own.

Half Priced Books.  Every week kids age 12 and under read 15 minutes per day they earn a $3 gift card to Half Priced Books.  More details here. (Thanks Sandy)

Borders.  Kids 12 and under read any eight books, then list the books they’ve read on the Reading Challenge Worksheet that a parent/guardian must sign.  Bring the completed worksheet to any Borders or Waldenbooks store between May 26 and August 31 to save 50 percent or more on selected items.

Scholastic.  Scholastic Summer Challenge gives kids a chance to read books, earn points, win prizes and sweepstakes, help a worthy cause and achieve a world record. (Thanks Mary)

Northwestern Books Stores.  In the Twin Cities, this bookseller offers kids the ability to earn prizes at varying levels based on the number of books they read.  Call your local store for details, as programs vary by location.

Your turn: How do you keep your kids reading over the summer?
