Summertime means outdoor family activities.  Free theater, music and locally sponsored movies are a great way to do that.  Or for Victoria, my two year old, it means grooving at a Radio Disney Concert at Maple Grove Days (see her caught in action above).

In the Twin Cities there are lots of options and I’ve compiled a few of them:

Once Upon a Mattress. Story of the Princess and the Pea by Off Broadway Musical Theater.  Performances every Thursday through Saturday night through August 8.  Show starts at 9 pm at 4401 Xylon Ave N in New Hope.  Details here.

Sommerfest.  Free music by various artists in downtown Minneapolis every Thursday through Sunday through August 1.  See a concert schedule here.

Bring your lawn chairs for these free outdoor movies, both happening on July 17:

Hotel for Dogs.  At Central Park (8440 Regent Ave) in Brooklyn Park at dusk.  Details here.

Monsters, Inc.  In Crystal at 6225 56th Ave N starting at 9:20.  Free ice cream will be provided by Cold Stone Creamery too.  Details here.

A few weeks back I posted this list of great movie deals which includes some movie theaters as well.

Your turn: Many cities offer free outdoor movies once per monthall summer long.  Is yours?  There are many local theater groups withfree performances this summer.  Which do you know of?  Where else can you listen to a free outdoor concert? Leave a comment with the details or a webpage link to find details
