These are the best deals I see this week at Cub.  If you come across a great buy at Cub that I missed or notice coupons on a display within your store, please leave a comment so we can all save more.  To learn how to read this shopping list and understand the abbreviations used read this post.

Your turn: Have you used many of Cub’s store brand products?  What did you think?  I am personally curious about the ice cream that’s 99 cents this week.  Anyone have a review good or bad of it?

Comments

  1. Tashi says:

I’ve used Cub-brand frozen skinless chicken breasts, skim milk, cheeses, and stir fry veggies (and maybe a few others I’m forgetting) with great success and satisfaction. Sorry, I haven’t ever tried the Cub-brand ice creams. I love when their store-named items (aka, the generics) are on sale. Thanks for the lists — I missed the Sunday paper ads.

  2. Stephanie says:

I am so mad at myself! I stocked up on eggs last week and NOW they go on sale! I don’t think I could use any more. Oh well.

  3. Tuffy4God says:

I always freeze my block cheese. Yes, it is a little crumbly, but not much. I find it still slices just fine for making sandwiches.

Also, our Cub no longer carries the twin packs. I was there yesterday and instead of having to buy a twin pack of milk, you can purchase 1 or 2 at the low price of $1.68 and it didn’t say you had to buy 2…it just said “limit 2″ and “no coupon needed”.

  4. Celeste says:

Athenos feta cheese is 2/$3 and there was a $1 off coupon on smartsource.com a while back. If you have any of those left, 50 cents for a package of feta is hard to beat!

  5. Mary says:

I bought some ice cream yesterday but haven’t tried it. I figure even if it’s not great, I can still use it in smoothies!

  6. Karin says:

I have used MANY (if not all) of the Cub Store brands (syrup, milk, cheese, bread, potato flakes, cereal, etc…) and I/we have been very pleased with their products! I am new to this site and actually new to “couponing”…..I have not done coupons before because I do buy so many of the store brands because they are still cheaper than buying a product w/ a coupon. Any thoughts or ideas out there?

    • Carrie Rocha says:

Personally, I have found that when name brands are on sale and matched with a coupon I can beat store brand prices almost every time. But, that approach doesn’t work for everyone because you need to watch the sales, do the coupon thing and generally pay attention to prices. What have others found?

  7. Kae says:

My Cub had coupons in the store for the feta cheese and lettuce! In the end I paid $3 for 2 pkgs of lettuce, 2 pkgs of feta and 2 pounds of bananas! I love those moments.

  8. Judy says:

The online Cub ad for Rogers, MN., has a coupon for Awesome 8-roll paper towels or 24-roll Soft Choice Bath Tissue for $3 each, limit 2. In the flier I got in my paper, the same items are advertised for $4.99
I don’t know why the Rogers ad has these additional coupons, but they work at my Cub, too.

  9. Lori says:

Yes The Rogers coupons work at my Cub too. They also have a coupon for Fresh Express salad kit for $1.49. I’ve used both paper towel and the salad coupons this week at my Cub, no problem. I had 2 Ladies behind me in the checkout lane and they could believe how much I saved in coupons. They asked me how I did it and told them all about the Pocket your dollars website.

  10. VC says:

Judy, thanks for posting about the Rogers coupons! They worked great for me too!!

  11. Mike says:

i bought the mint chocolate chip version of the 99-cent ice cream. not impressed. the chips are tiny specs rather than real chips. the flavor is OK, but the overall quality is definitely below the name brands. i will eat it, but i might go with something more generic, like vanilla, if i buy this brand again. since i don’t buy much ice cream, and only buy it a couple of times during the summer, it’s worth it for me to buy premium brands when they’re B1G1. i bet i spend less than $15 a year on ice cream, even buying the expensive stuff. (i’d never buy it at regular price, i’m not that crazy.)

  12. Heidi says:

Also website Carrie! Thanks for the lists! I have been diligent about learning what a good price is for produce, etc. instead of always being a sucker for whatever is marked as “on sale.” However, I am still new to it and really appreciate a little help! Especially since I have small children at home and time is limited!
