Target Stores are Price Matching

target

All Target stores in Minnesota everywhere are price matching advertised sale prices.  This is a test and if it goes well, then they will roll it out to all stores nationwide.  They have now rolled it out nationwide.  These are the price matching rules:

  • Target will match the current advertised price point for the exact same item – same brand, same size
    • Percentage off, buy one, get one free, and competitor’s coupons will not be matched
    • Generic items will not be price matched
    • Includes any advertised item, not just groceries
  • You have to bring the entire competitor’s ad into the store, not just the individual page with the item you are matching
  • Price matching is done at the Customer Service Desk not in the checkout lanes
    • You can bring your whole cart of items to Customer Service and be checked out there
    • You can check out in the lanes, pay full price, then go to the Customer Service Desk for a price adjustment.
  • You can still use a Target coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon for a price-matched item
  • If Target itself advertises a lower price either the same week or the week following a purchase, you can bring in your original sales receipt for an adjustment
    • Clearance items cannot be adjusted

Your turn: What do you think of this price matching policy?  Do you think you will take advantage of it?

Thanks for the info! I might take advantage of the policy if there’s a lower price at a store where it is not convenient for me to shop. Otherwise, I would just purchase the item at the other store so I don’t have to go through the hassle of doing the price match.

Yes! I will definately take advantage of this…as I don’t live near a walmart but am at Target for most things. thanks!

This is awesome! Now if I can print it and bring it with me to the store in case they haven’t heard of it will be perfect.

Thanks for posting. I’m betting this will come in handy with Wal Mart ads in particular – when they do have ad flyers, that is.

Right now I won’t be doing any additional “research” on who is advertising what price, etc. But that is because I just started my “coupon-diva training” recently and am trying VERY HARD not to overwhelm myself.

But if I happened to find out about a particularly great deal, and especially if I have a Target coupon and a manufacturers coupon, I will do it.

Later… I hope I will be able to do this on a regular basis.

Greetings, from a savvy chic, I caught your spot on KARE11 News and found it to be interesting and helpful. My husband has been laid off and we have been stretched to meet needs so any way to save cents we have been taking advantage of. I just think Target must do whatever they can to not allow Wal-Mart take over this region as they have done elsewhere. I’d gladly come with a competitor’s ad! If I have further ques about this new policy I’lll be sure to ask you. Thanks so much.

Bummer that they are not price matching BOGO’s. Those are some of the best deals once you’ve added the coupons.

    Carrie,
I tried to do the strawberry Cub match last week and I was told Target’s policy doesn’t cover produce; do you have any information on this?

Thanks for all you do to help the rest of us save money!
