Aldi has some good prices on produce and meat this week. If you are new to Aldi, remember that they don’t accept coupons, only take cash, EBT or debit cards (no credit cards), and you have to bring your own shopping bag or pay $.05 to buy one of theirs. Here are my top picks this week:
Produce:
- Mangoes: $.49 each
- Watermelon: $3.49 each
- Pineapple: $1.99 each
- Lemon or lime: $0.15 each (anyone know what this translates to per pound?)
Meat:
- Pork spare ribs: $1.89/lb
- Brats or Italian sausage: $2.26/lb (sold in 19.76 ounce packages)
- 80/20 lean ground beef: $1.79/lb (I have found this higher fat beef to be good for making burger patties for the grill)
Your turn: What do you always get at Aldi because you think they’ve got the best price on it?

Hi Carrie,
I seem to be taking over your blog with this comment… sorry.
Before starting my Coupon-Diva training, I bought all my crackers, most of my cereal, some canned stuff like black beans, egg noodles ($1), corn taco shells. Most things I buy are close enough in quality to Brand Name items, and quite comparable to regular “store brands”. But I think generally less expensive than store brands at most places.
I actually think the Ritz-type crackers are better there. (The real thing crumble too easily.) And while a little saltier, their version of Tostito-type chips are tasty, and only $0.99, compared to $3.99 or more for the same size in the real thing.
I will probably continue to buy most of my crackers and chips there, and sometimes produce, unless I see a better deal on any of them. It has been a little bit since I’ve been there because as I’m learning how to be a C-Diva, I’ve just been shopping a lot. The meat has been hit or miss, so I don’t bother. MANY things I haven’t tried.
Another thing about Aldi… some are nicer than others. The first one I went to put me off, but the next one was much better, and I learned to like it there. The third (placed near a Byerly’s) is brand new and the nicest yet.
The cashiers are very fast, but remember, YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE. I had a cashier there even say that to me, which I thought was kind.
Oops… one MORE thing: Contrary to popular belief, you don’t “rent” the shopping cart. You make a quarter “deposit” on it, and get a quarter back when you return the cart. I think that is very clever of them to have hit on the amount people are willing to return their own carts for AND are willing to always have one handy for shopping.
OK, Carrie, you can have your blog back!
:-) Helen
