I’ll highlight a few, but if your local thrift store isn’t included in the list, then call them to ask about any promotions they are running. Goodwill: Items with Blue, Green and Yellow tags will be 50% at all Goodwill stores in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud, Rochester and Willmar, MN area on Monday. Find a Goodwill near you here. You can get to the local store’s webpage by clicking on “Services/ Hours” for the store nearest you when the map of locations appears. A Memorial Day sale will likely be advertised there.
Salvation Army: I couldn’t find anything online saying that they are having a sale. Considering all their competition is having 50% sales, I hope they are too. Click here for a list of locations in the upper Midwest.
Arc’s Value Village: All three Twin Cities, MN locations will have everything but white tagged merchandise 50% off on Memorial Day. Click here for store locations and hours. On a personal note: I have snagged some great deals on clothes at the Arc Value Village in Brooklyn Center. Someone my size that likes Anne Klein donates their clothes there.
Unique and Valu Thrift Stores:These for-profit thrift stores are also having a 50% sale on Monday. I cannot find a website, but my grandmother is on their mailing list and has assured me that everything’s on sale. Too late for anyone else to take advantage, but Savers had a 50% off sale today, and also typically follows the pattern of having similar sales on other “holiday mondays” like Presidents Day and Labor Day, as well as a few other times during the year. You can sign up on their website for their mailing list which will remind you about the upcoming sales.
I scored a summer wardrobe refresh for myself (2 pairs of shorts, 2 pair of capris and six shirts) plus a dress for my daughter, a bag of cookie cutters, 4 board games for my family and a kids dvd…all for $36!

Unique has “customer appreciation day” every Tuesday. All merchandise is 25% off every Tuesday.
In my opinion, the 50% off Mondays are not worth the effort. It’s nearly impossible to find parking, you have to wait for someone to check out to get a cart, and you have to fight your way through aisles. I’ve given up on shopping on 50% off days. But 25% off Tuesdays you can still do all right. But watch your prices at Unique – they are severely overpriced on some things. I used to shop there all the time but they’ve been raising prices and I can’t find as many great deals there as I used to be able to find.
Laura – Thanks for the tips about Unique. I agree that different thrift stores have “sweet spots” where their prices are great and other areas where they are typically overpriced. Like anything, watch prices and don’t spend more than you budgeted just because it is a good deal. Glad to know about 25% Tuesdays. –Carrie
